I'm giving this an A-OK rating and here is my experience: I was itching to get a new tattoo and since I am not from this area, I figured I would try this place since I have heard a lot about it. I emailed them my idea and asked the basic questions (when and what time, about how much, etc.) I was surprised and delighted by how quick I received a response, but I did note that the question about pricing was swept under the rug. I walked in the next day and gave them my design. While waiting for the artist, I overheard an older woman asking about butterflies and pricing. She wanted to add another small one to symbolize another grandchild. Each person was giving her the run around with the cost. I completely understand the need for a shop minimum and the fact that you should pay in order to get good work, but come on. The man, Jay, who said a price would be worked out with me, was conveniently gone when it was time to swipe my card. All I did was fill out a form, my ID was never checked, which I was surprised. They make you pay beforehand. My turn comes up and I'm told $200. OK, I was a bit floored by the cost because I have something more intricate with multiple colors that didn't even go that far. I was only getting black. Anyways, swiped my card, I wanted this. I was tattooed by Jerry, his artwork was cool and he made me feel comfortable. We have a little chitchat and then his coworker comes in and the F-word gets thrown around so much I feel like I'm in high school. A bit unprofessional, considering I was told the shop was kid friendly, so if you have a big problem with that, be wary. He did a great job and you can tell he is a seasoned artist. I am happy with the work, I only feel a small amount of buyer's remorse. Lastly, he did not go over follow up care. Every time I get a tattoo, no matter how many times, they always give the customer a brush up on those important details. I got paper towel wrapped and sent on my way. He did say that touch ups were free, which I do appreciate. In summary, I probably won't go back, but I am happy with my artwork. read more

I've got to say the place it self was clean and neat. I got to small tat's on my wrist for $80 dollars my friend later told me i paid to much for them she got hers done with color for $70. I was done within a few minutes, i felt it was rushed and not done nice, and forsure sloppy. The guy Hector was rude and not to pleasant, while doing my tattoo I tried asking some questions and he ignored me, i guess he had something better to be doing. Will i ever go back? Maybe but i will make sure I have a different guy and this time do a little more homework on prices around my area get my moneys worth. read more

If their printer isn't working, if you're like us you're going to end up waiting for an hour before giving up and leaving. Call first to check and make sure they have artists available and working equipment. Waiting an hour for printer issue to be fixed is not a good time, but had we been informed of the progress of our situation, or even addressed AT ALL after they realized the printer was broken (we only found out because of conversations they were having amongst themselves while they were trying to print what we wanted - a simple Charger bolt) we would have been totally okay with waiting a bit longer. It was simply bad customer service, and it's a real shame because I really wanted to like this place. read more

I got my tattoo almost 4 years ago and don't remember the name of the guy who made for me, but it's a quarter sleeve in color and I was charged over $800 for it between tracing and coloring in. I have spoken to other people about it and they choose not to go to Frontline because they overprice their services. Not bad art at all, but just be careful what price you agree to and look for competitors. I could have gotten mine for half the price elsewhere. read more

When my lady and I got there we were greeted by Carmen who was very sweet and helpful. We discussed ideas and almost instantly were taken to see an artist. Sean is the tattoo artist that did our ink, he was laid back very friendly and professional. He definitely knows his craft inside out and did amazing work!!!! I went in and made an appointment for a Monday evening with Jerry. I cannot rant about them enough. The staff is badass and very laid back. They made my sketch better than what I had hoped for and my whole tattoo took only 3ish hours for line work and vibrant colors. Frontline tattoo was one of the best tattoo shops I have been in. They were fast, friendly, clean, and all around awesome. I had some floral work done on my hip by Yngve, and it couldn't get much better. I didn't have an appointment, I brought in some floral refferences, and he drew something up for me better than I could have ever imagined! 4 of us walked in at 720. Waited patiently in front of the counter for someone to help us. The two guys were helping other customers. 3 other people walked in after us. By 730 we had not received even a "hello". They helped the 3 other people that walked in and still hadn't acknowledged us. Rude rude rude. After he helped them he told them he had two tattoos to do and that he would be doing theirs for them and it would be his last one tonight. I went to this shop one night in January of this year to get an elephant tattoo done on my back. Nothing crazy, just the outline because I hadn't decided for sure what colors I wanted. The guy at the front was awesome and we talked to him for a while. I guess he does piercings there? He was the best part of that place. The guy that came out to do my tattoo was less than friendly, didnt care what i was going to have done and then had the nerve to say, "this is your first tattoo isnt it?" I have a friend that has gone to frontline a couple of times and thought it was a good place so I thought ok, maybe the guy was just having a bad night. So, the other night I went back in to ask about getting a small wrist tattoo done. Again, I was greeted by the guy who typically is at the desk while 3-4 guys were sitting in chairs just hanging out talking about how they're going to get beers when they're off. When I told them what I wanted the guy was again, less than excited. The tattoo artists were complaining about how they were so tired and didnt want to tattoo any more. So, after hearing that I left. I work in a client based profession and would never act so unproffessional in front of a potential long time client. I never give bad reviews to places but I hope no one ever goes here. A tattoo should be a positive experience because you will carry it around for the rest of your life. Instead I remeber some grumpy guy that couldn't wait to get a beer after work. read more

I am more than pleased with my experience at Frontline. Both times I got a tattoo here I was a walk-in. The staff there was more than eager to get me signed in and ready to go for a tattoo. I showed them what I wanted and Dale walked right up and started drawing up the tat. After about 3 hours I was in awe of the tattoo I received. The detail in the shading and color blew my mind. I got my first tattoo here and it was an awesome experience. They were super helpful and friendly. I have to say the prices are a bit expensive, but I assure you you will be ecstatic with the work they do. My artist is Dale Crawford and his work is amazing. I went back to him to get my second piece done. It was about 5 inches on my back. It is a Celtic memory tattoo for my dad since he was from Ireland. It has been 2 years since I got it done and I fall in love with it every time I look at it...LOL! Amazing work. I would definitely recommend Dale and this tattoo shop in general. Dale was awesome! Myself and a few of my family members were interested in getting a white ink tattoo in memory of a recently deceased sister/cousin/niece. We experienced a lot of negative feed back from other tattoo artist, who not only had no interest in doing the tattoo, but also thought it was simply a bad idea. One artist actually told us, "why bother, you're just going to end up with a crappy looking tattoo". Dale was not only willing, but very respectful when talking to us about the idea. In the end 3 of us ended up with the white ink, while 2 others went with something more traditional. The tattoo is of her unique signature, and while 2 of us went with something very simple, 3 went with a design that Dale did from an idea we brought with us. What he did with that design was something she would have loved. We all left the shop quite happy with the results. Got my tattoo done by Jerry. My boyfriend had previous work done by him and figured out when Jerry was working here that I definitely had to get my tattoo done by him. I got something fairly small, on my ankle which I was nervous about. Jerry was great and friendly and made me feel at ease about the pain of the ankle. The tattoo literally took less than 20 minutes and flew by. The pain was worth it because Jerry has beautiful work. Thank you again Jerry and will be back if I get another tattoo idea! read more

First time getting a tattoo and I decided to come here and get a half sleeve and connecting chest piece. Really great work and I'm pleased. The thing that stands out the most for my experience here is when I had actually walked all the way to the shop from near the pier in Oceanside. When I got there the owner actually paid a $20 cab ride for my friend and I to take over to navy federal to pull out cash. Was not expecting that. As someone with a few previous pieces, I know what I should get out of a tattoo shop and Frontline floored my expectations. When I first walked in the girl at the front was very helpful. I showed her what I wanted and she showed me the portfolios of the artists she recommended for the type of artwork I had in mind (one that took up most of my back!) I chose an awesome artist, met him that same day, got a good estimate, and set my appointment for two weeks later. I received a business card with my appointment time on it and a follow up call a few days before. I did my piece in 2 sessions. Both appointments (a couple months apart) were awesome. Everyone was super nice, the whole place was super clean, and my artist really made me feel comfortable the entire time. My tattoo is exactly what I wanted and the color is absolutely stunning. I get compliments all the time and I couldn't be happier with it! Frontline is everything I wanted in a shop, and now I'll never get work from anywhere else. read more

Freaking awesome studio! We went in to get our first tattoos ever and Danielle made us feel so comfortable and welcome. We came back later that evening and Mark helped me with mine. I was greeted by 2 staff members when I walked in, and they were extremely friendly. I didn't do much research before going to this place. I wanted something simple and easy and on kind of a whim, so I didn't feel the need to spend time looking through portfolios and sending out emails. I was very pleasantly surprised, to be honest. I was expecting some shotty work from some shadsters, but the guy that tattooed me was very nice and the few pieces that I saw of his were REALLY good, and I'm pretty hard to impress.
