Great family owned grocery store in Chicopee, MA with different daily hot bar selections.

I was kicked out of Fruit Fair for going into diabetic shock. I was also told that I was "scaring" the customers. Nobody offered me any medical help & I was threatened with the poloce. Fruit Fair left me passed out in an aisle for 35 MINUTES! (I know the exact time bc Sam, the co-owner rubbed it in my face.) This is how Fruit Fair treats their customers with disabilities. There are public police records of this event taking place on 12/7/2023 if anyone thinks I'm making it up. (Simply go to the CPD to have the record printed.) I called the police myself right after Fruit Fair threatened me. I needed to tell my side of the story because this was a disgusting injustice. The police officer who came to my home was so kind & understanding! He & the 911 operator explained to me that there were absolutely no records of any 911 calls coming from Fruit Fair on 12/7/2023, so Fruit Fair also lied to me about calling the police on me. The police academy teaches cops that diabetic shocki mimics drunkenness, so he understood me. He even offered to go to Fruit Fair & educate them. He kept asking me if I was okay over & over again. Amazing officer! Fruit: There are fruit flies swarming the fruit, especially the tomatoes! They lay their eggs inside the fruit. You will be sick if you eat it. Deli: There is a CONSTANT swarm of flies at the deli & the deli workers are RUDE! Frozen Food: Their freezers constantly break down, then work again, which refreezes everything. They have boxes standing up, so when their freezer breaks, all the food thaws out, slides to the bottom, then refreezes. This malfunction also causes mold. The 3rd problem is freezer burn; Lots of it. Returning anything when Sam is around is a nightmare. She is a narcissist who believes she can do no wrong. (I pity her husband bc he seems like such a sweetheart!) Sam always gave me a huge problem when I returned food...She once followed me to the parking lot to question why I was returning food! Sorry but I was expecting more fresh fruit on display! The fruit offering was quite small, although this IGA type store is clean and very well merchandised, it's just that the name is somewhat misleading. This is pretty much a small neighborhood grocery store catering to the local residents, thus it doesn't warrant a special trip from across town. It is refreshing to see a well stocked, clean, independently owned store serving the community and thriving in the midst of mass chain driven grocery stores. My hat is off to the owner, managers and employees as they obviously care about their customers. read more

Coming from upstate NY where tbh there are not a lot of good concise stores which provide a variety of items, I found Fruit Fair my go to place for weekly grocery shopping. From fresh fruits and vegetables to the more regular everyday breakfast items, Fruit Fair provides all. Their recent stuffed salmon and thanksgiving dinner were my recent favorites besides the more traditional ham salad from the deli. What do you think I should try next time? read more

I will say for quick items needed, fruit fair is very convenient seeing its 2 streets over. I used to shop there about 20 years ago and it was great. Moved and it's been awhile. I moved back to the area and Jay, his mom and dad owned the store. Great people, very friendly and knew your names and when you requested something, within a few days it was there. Sadly they sold the store to these people. There is no friendliness, its more like just another business. Jay was like family. It's just not the same. read more

I visit Fruit Fair a couple times a week. This family owned, local business is conveniently located a few streets over from me and always has the essentials you may need without wanting to make a trip to the bigger grocery stores. My favorite thing about Fruit Fair is how you are always greeted upon entering the store. They chat with each customer whether you are the only one in the store or there is a line at the register. They have a large variety and the store is very clean. They are a local business that I am proud to support! read more

Hi, I go to F. Fair often enough to evaluate. The store has an old time vibe I knew as a child. The scent, the layout, all of it. Only thing missing would be the huge Ice chest filled with bobbing soda cans, and a comic book rack and penny candy. Anyway, other reviews have it right. In time they learn your name, as I did each person working there. A very nice family owns this store, and you know, if they do not have the item they will order it for you. Now, some items cost more than the big boy stores, but that is economy of scale, and how could they compete with that? Other items below cost of other stores. And Yes, they do have a little bit of everything, even obscure items. These people care about you. One day, I dropped a bag and they were right there helping me recover. You see, I am sixty three. The deli is pretty good, sometimes they have specials that are superior to big markets. Other times, yes, the same cost, still, they are local and easy to get to. I do miss the old time Polish people that ran the Deli. F. Fair lost big time when they left. That old time Polish food was a huge draw. They have baked chicken for five dollars a bird, The steaks are not the best. Imported New Zealand beef is tuff. The lamb is good though. The vegtables seem local, but sometimes look beat up a bit. Average sized or mid-sized mom and pop market They used to be known for the Polish deli-style products, but since then, the staff that had made the deli famous are long gone. You can find some really good deals on some items, and other items are marked up costing more than at a big box market. For immediate essentials, the market serves a purpose. Prices in most cases lower than a convenience store, with a wide array of selections. My upset is the ATM machine is set to give out 300 dollars or so, and each withdrawl is a few bucks. I asked about this, and Fruit Fair said it is like this everywhere as if I were a idiot. Fact is, I can go to Super Stop and Shop and withdraw to sets of five hundred dollars at a nominal cost and thus buy money orders and shop. Fruit Fair sets the payout low to increase revenue from the machine, but it is a hassle to the point of me avoding the store to shop and buy money orders. The bread is fresh from local venders. The vegtable bin is rather sad, and I have bought on sale peppers and so on that have mold or holes where the mold was cut out. The steaks while low costing, are imported, and I find the cuts tuff. I avoid the frozen section of this store due to mark up over the common supermarket. The staff is great, super nice, and care about their customers. I just wish they had more even and fair pricing, sales like the Big Y, and fixed the ATM issue to hand out five hundred since they charge so much to use it. read more

This place is grungy. At one time the deli was superb and known for Polish fair, but now that is gone. It is all pretty much bought in bulk for resell. Breads are varied and fresh. However, many of the items in the store are absurdly priced , that is too high. Staff is friendly and helpful. Again, prices are not fair at all for many items. Fruit is half gone in freshness. Place comes across as a run down convenience store not at all what it once was in greater times. Some items are double what a super market charges. I mean how blatant...Banquet entrée TV supper that goes for one dollar is two dollars there. Kind of on the crazy side . Steak is tuff and stringy, I guess they buy New Zealand beef. Not fair pricing at all. You can do so much better and they close at five p.m. so forget the convenience store aspect. If you have no car and live near by the store it is useful I guess. However if your an adult having a car, and adult independence then you should just take a few minutes and travel for much better offerings. Ok for walkers living near buy living on a budget but for working adults, it is a no go. read more
