Normally we stopped at another Asian market from our Costco run. But one trip I searched for others to try that were along our route back to NH. Trans World food market came up. We were pretty spoiled when we lived in the Bay Area (SF). This was a gold mine. Endless selection of food, and fresh produce. Unless you can shop Boston Chinatown, this is our next best thing. I've been going to this store with my mother since I was a kid, and they've always had the ingredients she needed for some of her recipes that she couldn't find anywhere else. Tran's World Food Market also has beautiful porcelain dishes and plates, that my family has loved to use for years. They also have a wonderful selection of Asian candies and sweets, goodies you'll find in no other store. I have quite the sweet tooth, and even I haven't tried them all yet! There's so many to choose from, you'll never be stuck with the same ol' grocery store chocolate bars again. There's something for everyone at this store, never be afraid to try something new in this store, you won't regret it! I moved here from Hawaii and was totally bummed when I saw the Barbie size Asian section at the Big Y. We have been suffering from the lack of ingredients in my Asian cooking! I was stoked to discover that there was a market in Western Mass! We drove up there from Longmeadow, and it was really easy find. The size of the store is very deceiving, you step from a tiny room into a second humongous room. I couldn't prevent myself from smiling! My fiancé who was waiting in the car because our son was sleeping, walked in after our son woke up and was just as excited as me! They had my favorite fish sauce, Thai eggplant, Thai chili peppers, rice noodles, anchovies sauce, mama noodles... I can go on and on! This was as close to heaven can be for a little Cambodian girl like me! I stocked up on all my seasonings and spent only $169 for two huge boxes full of goodies, which is way less than what I spend at the Big Y on my weekly two bag trip! I will totally come every week! This market did a great job of packing in a ton of items but some spots were a little tight. Although that is the case, the store was well organized. How did i just found out about this place? I have been going to mama's convenience in amherst. The selection is very limited there, and for the longest time they only accept cash. This place is fairly close to the highway. Right by the bike trail. Good hours closes at 7pm everyday except sunday 6pm. Much bigger than mama's. Acceptable service. Clean enough for an asian store. Good selection. Has fresh noodle, mung bean cakes, spring rolls. Endless selection of sauces, ample parking. Beat yet, the prices are so much better than mama's. read more

From the outside, Tran's World Food Market looks pretty sketchy. Small parking lot, some produce piled outside with handwritten cardboard price signs, a number of bees flying around. I really wasn't expecting much. But then you step inside and realize you're in a Asian food TARDIS. Where does this second giant room come from? How do they cram so much merchandise in? Why does everything seem so fresh and new when most Asian shops are covered in dust and expired foodstuffs? Tran's was a miracle. We got the Japanese rice we like, the umeboshi I was longing for, the best deals on produce (eight limes for a dollar! I haven't seen that kind of deal since I left California, and even there it was rare) and even some squid tentacles because well, I LIKE squid tentacles either as calamari or ika geso karaage. The proprietress was extremely friendly and helpful and welcoming, knew the place inside out. I wish we didn't live an hour away, or Tran's would be a weekly stop on our grocery rounds. read more

Coming from Seattle where Asian food and Asian markets are plentiful, I was worried that I'd have to venture into Boston to find the stuff I wanted. But don't worry guys, it's in Hadley! I was in search of a place to buy the fixings for the Thai soup Tom Kha Gai and boy did I find it. Whole Foods was selling lemongrass for $9.99/lb but Tran's had it for like $3/lb (I can't remember exactly but it was CHEAP). They also had the stuff I couldn't find at whole foods - galangal root and kaffir lime leaves. The store looks small from the road but once you get inside, you'll be amazed at how many things they were able to get inside. They have so so much stuff! Fish sauces, hot sauces, curry pastes, produce, frozen meats, canned goods, candy, rice, noodles, shrimp chips, juices, chili sauce, and so much more stuff I didn't even know what it was. I had only ever seen kaffir lime leaves fresh - they only had dried - and the helpful guy working explained that the leaves are sold in 3 ways - fresh, frozen and dried. Dried lasts longer, he explained. Sometimes they have frozen but rarely/never have fresh. Either way, I'm happy with the place and the service. read more

I'm from Lowell, there were little shops like this every 5 feet. It's nice out here in Western MA, but the variety and availability of the foods I've come to love is severely lacking! I love this place. My boyfriend and I stopped in to gather some things for pad thai that no one else in the area had. They had everything I needed and then some! They have an awesome variety of weird drinks, some of which are, unfortunately, out of date, but it's not the end of the world. They're always super friendly. They even gave us some advice on how to cook it and how to make some of the drinks we were buying. We go here at least once a week and find new things every time. I am so very glad we have this right around the corner from out apartment. They have a wonderful fresh food selection that is clean, well-kept, and well-priced. The store can get a bit cramped if there are too many people are in it (it's happened on a few occasions!), but it's well worth going in and taking a look around. They accept cards for payment, but it must be at least $6 worth of merchandise, and , if you're adventurous with drinks and weird foods, this will be easy. I'm a fan of shopping local businesses to keep them going, and this is my favorite one to shop! read more

This place is great given the location. The staff is friendly and the store is clean. It is a tight fit, getting past others in the isles is a little "personal" and thats no joke. A great selection of everything you expect to find and plenty of variety in the more common products. I even found the normal compliment of jamaican sauces, foods and spices. It may not be kam man or hmart in size but they crammed alot in there vertically, you need to go through slowly and look around both up and down if you dont know where things are already from experience and that slow browsing isnt easy with alot of people in the store trying to get by or around you. If you're a first timer you might have a better time stopping by during a weekday in the daytime if possible, I went on a Saturday and it wasnt packed but busy enough to make navigating or even getting out of the store with my purchase a little interesting. They also pack into boxes not bags, so just keep that in mind. Overall A+ and bonus points for decent parking right out front and super super tiny shopping carts available which actually fit down the tight isles. read more

Like another review said, it looks kind of sketchy from the outside, but it's great inside. Don't be scared away by the exterior. Inside, there were multiple long aisles fully stocked with international (mostly Asian) food. There is practically one whole side of an aisle dedicated to noodles and another whole side of an aisle dedicated to teas. They also have frozen products (mochi ice cream!) and snacks/candy if you're not one to cook. And if you are one to cook, besides all of the ingredients they stock, you can also buy lots of produce and fish. My favorite finds: 25lb bag of rice for $25, half gallon of soy sauce for $8 or $9 (I got 10 oz from the grocery store for $2.50... so it would cost twice the price to buy the same amount from the grocery store), and a wide selection of curry blocks which I haven't been able to find ANYWHERE in the area. Awesome little place that probably goes unnoticed by many. Even if you're not already a fan of international/Asian food, you should be able to find a lot of stuff in here to try. Went today to try to figure out how and what to put in " hot pot". The staff walked me around and gave me all the tools and advice on how to do it. I tried it and it came out amazing. we drive by tran's all the time, we had stopped at another asian market down the street but the entire mall it was in has disappeared so we decided to stop in and check out tran's .. a very small but impressive market - the aisles are super narrow and product is stacked super tall. if they are busy it is not easy to navigate the aisles full of other people shopping. got my gochujang and black vinegar and we were on our merry way. truth be told, this place is far superior to the other store we used to go to down the street - since that store is gone i cannot compare prices, but if we are up here looking for asian groceries this is where we will be stopping in. friendly staff too. yah, it looks kinda dumpy from the outside and maybe the floors arent so clean you can eat off them, but they have crazy amounts of asia grocery. read more

Tran's is rock solid. They have an amazing selection for a small place (although it is bigger than it looks from the outside), Much better than the huge Adong market in the Hartford area. Tran's has great produce and all the best brands of exotic things you may want for Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Indonesian, and Singapore cooking. I live about 50 miles away, but am up in that area once a week or so. I get everything I can from Tran's. By the way, the store is so named because the owner is a person named Tran. read more

I went there after reading the reviews, and this place has a giant selection of imports. I was looking to pick up ingredients for a particular receipe, but noticed they had fresh produce at a lesser price than the local grocer! The staff was awesome, he even gave me tips on how-to's for my meal! I will definetly come back...
