After meeting with different contractors we hired Fernando. When he showed up to our home he immediately gave us completely different idea than what we had in mind. Fernando also did a sketch for us. He was very informative. All the other contractors didn't give us a visual. So it was hard to imagine something without not seeing it. I read down below that he is not on site. He is not onsite full time . He's a contractor not a construction crew ? His job is to oversee his employees . That is exactly what his job is over see his crew. His employees are all friendly and are willing to answer any questions in regard to the job on site. Fernando did all the work to deal with the city and permits . I don't agree that Fernando cuts corners . Fernando gives you a contract . As a home owner if you want to add QUALITY or More high end material it will run at your own expense. In our case certain things were over our allowance and we knew that from the start. At the end of the day it was an investment for our home. Fernando was always one call away . At all times to answer any questions or concerns. From start to finish we never had a problem nor was it stressful. I'm actually going to miss calling him to ask him random questions I highly recommend hiring him for your next project . This is the second big project we do and it was not stressful! Fernando built two of my friends' homes from scratch and did remodel work for another friend and all of the work I saw was very impressive. My friends also mentioned he was honest and trust worthy and the quote that he gave me was in the middle of the 3 that I received. His quote was also the most detailed and easy to comprehend since I do not know much about the construction process. The fixer upper town home that I bought needed a big time remodel keeping just the frame of it. So he had to do re-piping, changing the floors, redoing 2.5 baths, redoing all closets, creating the island, redoing the whole kitchen including cabinetry, tiles, counters, installing new appliances, hardware, electrical work, light fixtures, 3 sky tunnels, dry wall and painting. He also had his team assemble and fix some shelves and wire racks which I had ordered for the home. Fernando, apart from being a contractor, is an architect so he had good vision and his suggestions seemed very appropriate. I gave him the choice to make decisions for many things and ALL of them were spot-on! The area that he impressed me the most was when I told him to figure out a way to open up the staircase walls, and they were load bearing walls so he told me he had to think about how best to do it and came up with a lovely idea and the finished look turned out absolutely fantastic!!! (picture enclosed). He has a good team of workers who were working every Saturday for 10 weeks to finish my home on time, which is rare with construction workers. I do think I got lucky that I had a contractor like Fernando to create my beautiful home & I would definitely recommend him to anyone who needs a good, efficient and honest contractor. Fernando came highly recommended by our Real Estate Agent, and after some independent research, we met with Fernando - who came across very knowledgeable. He worked up a quote to replace everything in the 40 year old primary bathroom of the condo we bought in Redondo Beach. We purchased some of the items that we wanted (such as a Japanese style toilet, shower heads and deep bathtub) and he provided the rest. Fernando and his crew did a beautiful job on our kitchen, powder room and the rest of the house (paint and floors)! It looks like a new house! We had him do our kitchen and powder room back in 2021 and then this year (2023) we had them back to do the rest of the house. (We had already done the upstairs bathrooms with a different contractor prior ...) I have wanted a new stair railing and a mantel on the fireplace since we moved in 23 years ago! Fernando designed the fireplace and gave me a drawing, so I knew we were on the same page and he gave me different options to choose from for the stairs. They painted the whole house and replaced flooring in all but 2 rooms. The attention to detail (new baseboards, crown molding, frames around windows, doors) and everyone's effort to do a good job really shows. His crew is skilled, polite and pleasant to be around. They would have finished right on time (but I caused a delay with something I ordered and we had to wait for it ...) I really got lucky finding Fernando! I purchased my first home and only had 4 weeks to take down walls and build a new kitchen. Fernando and his team were excellent. They worked long days and weekends to get the job done and it turned out beautifully. Scope of work included structural engineering to vault the ceiling and then a complete remodel of our kitchen and living room that included removing walls and stripping it down to the studs. Not even Two years ago Fernando did work on my home. Now copper pipes he installed which are supposed to last 50 years are bad. The communication was terrible and he left us with mix matched tiles in our living room. I provided my plans to Fernando's assistant (due to him never being available, let alone answering my calls), and asked for a quote. I NEVER received a call back, and had to call back over a dozen times until he finally returned my call (by accident no less) two weeks later, only to tell me he has not yet looked at the plans. They were very respectful of our home, thoroughly cleaned up the work areas every day before leaving for the day. Fernando is an architect as well as contractor, he drew up the plans, gave suggestions, and was very involved the entire time. He was very reliable and dependable, if he said he'd call, he called. If he said he'd come over, he came over. He never tried to upsell. The price he quoted was what we paid. Most importantly, the quality of the work was incredible! I cannot imagine how it could have turned out better than it did. They truly went above and beyond our expectations. We had a positive experience with FS Design. Ours was a kitchen remodel with two walls removed to open up living room and family room. Installed large pocket doors to separate Family room from Kitchen/Living room. A 26 foot beam spanning across ceiling made it possible. Fernando and the gang got the job done on schedule a of 32 days according to our agreement. The work was done professionally and we really love the results. All the work crews were friendly and courteous. We were actually sorry to see them go since we enjoyed having them in our home (strange to say). REMODELERS BEWARE! We started a major remodel project with Fernando Sevilla in August of 2009, following a plumbing issue. No part of the house was to be left untouched--all new plumbing, electrical, ac/heat, paint, siding, baths, kitchen, etc etc. He was referred to us by a friend of a friend but has done nothing but disappoint us. Long story short, he makes promises to get you to hire him but then doesn't deliver what was discussed. He is very unprofessional, disorganized, and uses cheap materials & unskilled workers. There's no follow up or response to calls & emails and I've had to constantly chase him down. Worst of all, he is a year and a half late on a job that was supposed to take 3 months...and the end is nowhere in sight! I will probably end up losing money and having to hire another contractor to finish the job. I just want my life (and home) back. Some additional details: (1) He misrepresented/inflated his architecture and design background. He has no degrees or certificates to back up his claims/promises. (2) He admitted from day one that he was not the cheapest nor the most expensive contractor but somewhere in the middle (I would argue he is actually expensive considering his workmanship); however, in his case, you don't get what you pay for. Paying more did not prevent him from cutting corners and using cheap materials. Also, his "subcontractors" are neither licensed or skilled. (3) He was never around so his workers were constantly asking me what needed to be done. I spent more time than him supervising and managing the process. He and his workers then picked and chose what to work on from day to day. Very backwards & inefficient! (4) He also promised us we would be back in our house by Thanksgiving, 3 months from start of project. We moved back in Feb of 2010 but had to live amidst dust, paint, strangers trudging through our house, feeling like we were under house arrest. Even now, almost 2 years later (after delay upon delay and excuse upon excuse), we are still not done! The end is not even in sight. (5) He totally messed up our new hardwood floors, according to an independent flooring expert we paid to do an inspection. We have been told we need to rip up our new hardwood floors and redo from scratch. (6) Plumbing, electrical, AC/Heat, etc etc--there is no area that is considered "done." Our switch box is in such bad shape that he actually told me he was embarrassed and sorry. Yet he won't hurry and fix it. Words alone are empty and meaningless. Need him to take responsibility and take action with a sense of urgency. (7) When I first complained about the workmanship and delays, Fernando's response was (a) that the work was "good enough" and that I should be able to just live with it; (b) that our $250,000 project was small compared to some million dollar homes he's worked on. I'm still in disbelief he would say these things to us (and on multiple occasions). Need I say more? I had my home renovated thru FS Design. From start including the design of my house he even gave me a better design. IIf i have knew I would have gotten him as my architect. Never had any problem with the staff, from the contractor all the way demolition group. As a matter of fact in the middle of my renovation my water heater broke down and my contractor offered his spare water heater to use until my renovation is completely done. After receiving many estimates from other contractors for my 2 bedroom/1 bath addition, I was referred to FS Design. Other contractors were suggesting that I build the additions in the backyard, but when I met Fernando he came up with engenious design to build out front using up dead space and leaving me with my backyard to enjoy parties. FS Design worked like a well oiled machine. Fernando completed the project in 2 1/2 months. 2 weeks earlier than the planned 90 days. Just finished a remodel. All I can say is we couldn't have chosen a better contractor. Fernando and his professional crew were a pleasure to have done our project. They were always on time and made sure our furniture was protected from the dust that was sure to come. The demo crew was efficient and cleaned up after as if nothing had happened. The carpenters were very precise with the installation of crown molding and casings, there was a lot. They also cleaned up everyday as if they were finished. The tile installer did a beautiful job he was also very precise cutting and installing. The painters were wonderful and it was a pleasure to have them in our home,we painted the entire inside after construction. Choosing Fernando Sevilla to renovate our master and kid's bathrooms was one of the best home renovation decisions I ever made. He and his team of sub contractors are all very knowledgeable, skilled in their trades, pleasant to be around, and very dependable. We hired an architect to come up with a design and plans for our bathrooms project. The architect gave us a design we liked, but inevitably decisions needed to be made in the field and unless your architect is there onsite to make those decisions, the average contractor will make them for you and often in a way that suits them not you. The added benefit with Fernando is that he is a trained architect but works as a general contractor. So when problems arose that needed a deft hand, Fernando was always ready, willing and able to come up with solutions that were both functionally AND aesthetically pleasing. No detail was too small to him to figure out the best solution. He is a talented guy and a real professional.
