A fascinating and appropriately named shop. The kitchen where the fudge is made is literally in the shop You can see the caramel being heated up in vast copper cauldrons, then poured out to cool before being beaten into fudge, sliced and put up for sale in the shop. If it's not an oxymoron, this is healthy fudge with too quality ingredients going into the final product Free samples are enthusiastically given out - don't be shy to ask to try any flavour. The girlfriend and I walked out with salted caramel and lemon flavours. Considering its proximity to tourist central, this shop is worth popping into on your visit to Bath

It's the New Year. All the leftovers have been eaten and resolutions to be thinner and healthier have been declared. But then you walk past Fudge Kitchen with their enticing smell and free samples and all bets are off. Maybe just one slice? For a little slice of calorific heaven , head down to this shop near the Abbey. Not only will the chatty, outgoing staff talk you through how they make the fudge, as they make it, but they'll give you freebies every step of the way. This might seem like giving their profits away - but one taste of their goods and you'll be hooked. At around £3.50 - 5.50 per slice (depending on weight) it's quite an expensive treat, but fantastic for a special occasion. There are plenty of flavours to choose from including strawberries and cream, whiskey cream and walnut, you're bound to find something to satisfy your sweet tooth.

There was a waiting line out the door for Fudge Kitchen. Even in the rain! It was an easy wait as you got to look through the large windows and watch them hand crafting the fudge in the open kitchen located right at the front of the store. While you are waiting in line they will also give you as many samples as you want! The list of the flavors they have that day are on the board. The store is small, and standing room only. You simply walk up, and purchase your order. I don't usually like fudge. But this reminded me of the amazing creamy fudge my grandma used to make when I was growing up. They have been hand crafting their fudge here for over 30 years. They use only natural ingredients and fresh whipping cream, which makes it soft and creamy. They also have small batch Gourmet Fudge, Fudge Sauces, or selections of Drinking Fudge to purchase. Needless to say, I don't see how someone can come in and sample their fudge and leave empty handed.

    Review Highlights - Fudge Kitchen

Samples available and they were lovely and smooth unlike fudge I've had in the US which is usually chalky or dense.

Stocked with the sort of sweets that would make any school child's mouth water - gobstoppers, shoe laces, popping candy and chocolate buttons. When you walk through the doors you'll be transported back to your childhood (or your parent's childhood depending on your age!) The shop assistants are welcoming and helpful, and extremely patient since they must spend their day waiting for people to make up their minds between the bon bons or the love hearts. They also stock a lot of international candies like Reece's Pieces and chocolate kisses. It's a fantastic place to buy stocking fillers or birthday presents.

Step down into the shop and stare in greedy delight; all the walls are covered with shelf upon shelf of glass jars, brimming with classic candies. All the greats are here: wine gums, jelly babies, cola bottles, pear drops, liquorice, jelly worms... All these delights are yours to pick and mix as you choose, in a paper bag for quick munching, or a nice glass jar as a sweet present. The shop also offers various ready-bagged chocolates, including foreign items, and touristy boxes of fudge with quaint pictures of the city. Like everything in Bath, tourism means that this is a pricy place to buy your sweets, but the patient staff and wide range do make choosing your treat as delicious an experience as eating them.

You know, the classics that join you and your grandparents in soaring memories of childhood. I won't wax too lyrical about the types of sweets available, because I expect you all know really... but then there might be some people who don't: Rhubard & custard, aniseed balls, barley sugar, hard gums, butterscotch, truffles, jelly beans, giant gobstoppers, sherbert lemons, pear drops, treacle toffee, candy canes, toasted teacakes, bon bons, humbugs and white mice, to name a few. The staff here are lovely and prices are very reasonable for the quality of product. Worth a visit if you're passing by that way. Just don't tell you dentist.

However why not, the owner explained that it had been open since February and was very popular with people wanting a return to more traditional shops. The shelves were stocked with jars of every conceivable sweet including my favourite of sweet and sours. They also had a small selection of hand made nougat and speciality choclates very tempting!! I liked their novely range of choclate bars with labels to cover every type of occasion/person, daughter, son, teacher, thank you, cheer up etc. The shop also stocked helium balloons which I have always loved.
