Where to begin? For now, be with your family and take the time you need. It's hard writing a review for a funeral home but I feel this is necessary as the time itself is beyond difficult to have to navigate and you want to make the best choices for your loved one. Every Director we encountered thereafter (Sapphire, Michael and the 2 Director's for the evening services) made our family feel special and heard. My father-in-law was so well taken care of (as was our family) from the first visitation to sending him home to the Dom. Rep. We truly didn't have to worry about anything and our family can never thank all of the incredible Director's who took such good care of us enough. They all went above and beyond to make this transition for our family feel respectful. For that we are forever grateful. Thank you!

This was the second time I was in the inner circle of planning arrangements, and the closest family member. Everything was on automatic and was absolutely perfect - which we came to appreciate several times during the services. They anticipated every need and subtly kept everything moving along seamlessly. I'm sure I don't even know half of what they facilitated- nor does it even matter since everything was perfect. Kevin, Gerry and everyone are amazing. Real professionals. Firstly, Margaret is a gem. She was so helpful and kind during this very painful season for my…read morefamily and me and we couldn't be more grateful. She handled our loved one's ashes with care and ensured we had everything we needed. As for the remaining staff there that day, a dark haired man, Roger or Rob, was very unkind towards my family and me when picking up our loved one's ashes. His demeanor and behavior towards us made an already sad experience worse. He was very cold and I was ready to write it off until there was a painfully noticeable difference in the engagement between my family and another woman who was there about a loved one as well. When you lose a loved one, you hope to be treated with kindness and compassion. While I can understand that everyone may not have the capacity to do so, given the line of business this is truly unacceptable. I hope that going forward, EVERYONE who walks through the doors of Macken Mortuary is met with the kindness and compassion they deserve.

Horrific experience…read more I accompanied a friend to pick up the remains of their spouse today and it was one of the worst encounters in recent memory. We walked in and were greeted by a man (without a mask) with a, "Hey, what's up, guys?". The casual and insensitive tone was a bit jarring but not a big deal. But the transactional nature of the process was. We were treated as if someone had accidentally dropped a delivery at the wrong address and we were mildly inconveniencing him by picking it up. When another friend asked the man to kindly put on a mask, he was told (not once but twice) that he was welcomed to wait outside. Due to great restraint, nothing else was said but my widower fried was clearly confused and distressed. Very quickly, another gentleman stepped in to finish the "transaction", which tells me this was not the first time this level of disrespect had happened. The whole wretched experience of picking up the remains of a loved one was made surreal by an insensitive and uncaring man who has clearly been doing this too long. I highly recommend trusting your loved ones and their families anywhere else.
