Asian food--really tasty!

I ended up buying a few fresh veggies--okra and purple hulled peas. there were a few booths with fresh veggies. I love to support local farmers. There were lots of fresh baked goods and other things. I am sure there were more fresh veggies earlier in the season. We are just visiting the area. Would love the market more if the vendors were spread out a bit more. Would allow more folks to visit the booth. There were probably 25 or 30 vendors.

Dropping in on the Fulshear Farmers' Market has become a great habit for us to pick up fresh eggs & produce!

On top of fresh eggs & veggies, dozens of great treats being served up by the merchants. One of the kids' favorites are flavored honey sticks! Another awesome example of country livin' in the Greater #Houston Region!

Cool weekly market. Not a Farmers Market but still fun as the entire square is blocked off…read more There were quite a few food trucks. All of the vendors were nice and most were eager to give samples. Stop by Dee's Nuts (yes you read that correctly) and by some Sriracha Ranch and Dill Pickle flavors to mix (yes you read that correctly). Delish! Also grabbed some Ruin beverages. Really good stuff too. There was also a jelly jam booth that had some great sounding combinations (like whisky). Market is closing in November but will be back for a Dec 4 holiday one.

Instead, you have to sign up in person (given very little notice), pay with cash before receiving a hand-written receipt, and have your info sheet added to a giant, messy appearing binder. This organizational method has routinely caused many issues, including double booking same-type vendors and losing track of cancellations/communication with vendors. We have attended 14 of the last 15 Katy Market Days as a well-loved vendor of fresh-squeezed lemonade, kettle corn, and shaved ice. Our first 6 or so events with Katy Market Days ran smooth with very little interaction with Betsy and Harry Proctor, the owners of The Limited Edition Art and Antiques and coordinators of Katy Market Day. As the months progressed, more issues appeared, including multiple lemonade, kettle corn, and shaved iced vendors attending the market, despite reassurance this wouldn't happen. We were always met with excuses such as, "a new girl let the other vendors book". The market this past Saturday started with a duplicate shaved ice truck parked directly across from our booth. Harry, Betsy's husband, handled the situation with respect and professionalism. He apologized for the double booking and offered a refund for this month's market. His attitude and demeanor was much appreciated in the midst of a frustrating situation for both vendors. Shortly after, a large, white food truck pulled directly in front of our booth and parked, hiding us from view of customers. My husband asked Betsy if the truck was going to stay, as it was an unusual spot and there was plenty of other options. My husband walked back to our booth and Betsy chased him down and began YELLING that the "truck is not moving" and we are "more trouble than we're worth". This outburst made the vendors surrounding us and the customers in my line visibly uncomfortable. Unfortunately, this display was not out of character for Betsy as we've witnessed numerous verbal disputes and disproportionate negative reactions toward other vendors over the course of our time. We've seen Betsy run after and scream at another vendor leaving the event early. Betsy routinely speaks abruptly and disrespectful toward vendors while signing up. In our early days of attending KMD, she even refused to let me and my young son use the restroom in her store while I was heavily pregnant and in dire need. Sometimes making an exception to a rule is necessary and compassionate. You'll hear numerous similar stories from most every vendor. Katy Market Day has the potential to be an excellent monthly event for the community but sadly falls short due to ineffective, unprofessional, and callous management.

There wasn't much fruit to be desired but bc My second reason for stopping was due to this being an African market I wanted to support the business. I was not disappointed as I had no expectations! They offer an array of traditional African ingredients and spices. Pretend You just deplaned into the land of Yoruba. DO NOT expect to walk in to an HEB vibe. It is a cultured environment and one should respect it as such. The lady at the register greeted Us with a smile and made sure assistance was not needed while shopping. You can find the following from what My memory serves Me. * a small produce section with vegetables * a freezer with beau coup meat & fish * a meat department with a very friendly gentlemen willing to help with fresh selections of meat & fish *a health and beauty counter *a kitchen with hot food - Yum! *a warmer at the entrance with prepared hot food I had just read about Kuli a few days ago so the Universe aligned this trip perfectly. I found a snack made of kuli - (groundnut) with honey, ginger, and pepper. I also tried the bread that's in the warmer "self-serve" near the entrance and its soooooo good! It's like a sweet dough bread / roll $.50. The boys also enjoyed it. We also had the fried tilapia - really tasty and fresh. It is the steak with bones so eat with caution. It was served with a traditional red sauce and the spice level was definitely 4/5. Dee-lish! They also sold plantain 4 slices for $1. I tried those and they were cooked well. Not too soft, not too burnt! It's obvious the market is still under construction so be patient! It's safe to maneuver but there are items still being placed on shelves and some prices are missing. Upon checkout each person received a loaf of Agege Nigerian bread - soft, fluffy, and sweet. I should have asked why but I said thank You as I knew it was something done as a way of them saying thank you and could have been extra inventory or promotion as this is a new location. It looked too delicious to turn down LoL. I'll post photos during My next visit! Support this market if You are near the area looking for a flavorful lunch or looking for traditional African ingredients!

I had NO idea what kohlrabi was before LOAM, and now I notice it on restaurant menus and even iin-the-know food trucks. It's amazing how much LOAM has opened me up to not only trying new vegetables, but cooking them. It's not too scary thanks to Pinterest. LOAM also has farm events for members.
