The Fulton ale house has been a part of the bed-stuy community for quite some time now. One would think that by now the establishment would employ individuals who understood and appreciated the people of this community. One of the things I enjoy most about living in this neighborhood is that when people frequent these specific establishments, often times they're coming in for fellowship and connection. Last night, my friend and I walked in to the ale house and went straight to the back to use the restroom. When we walked in we didn't see anyone at the door and it was rather late at night, but we walked in quietly and fully expected to purchase something from the bar in order to use the restroom. In fact, I was standing by the bar with my friend when she went to use the restroom. When she tried to go in, a middle-age woman with glasses and blonde hair, proceeded to put her physical body between my friend and the bathroom. The employee escalated the situation incredibly quickly and did not start by explaining that we had to purchase something in order to use the bathroom. It was only when I noticed the commotion and went to the bathroom and asked the worker to bring down her voice, to understand that we were not here to start any trouble, and that in order for us to move forward, we need her to calm down and de-escalate. It was then that she said that there is a sign that says only customers can use the restroom. To which I said that is fine. I can buy a beer and I will buy a beer for my friend to use the restroom, but it doesn't make any sense for you to treat people this way. We are grown adults, we did not see the sign initially, but to be treated in that way without any explanation at first was disheartening, hurtful, and disrespectful. The bartender apologized profusely for the employee's actions and explained that she had had a rough morning. To which I said, she should've been sent home when you noticed that she was not having a good day. We all have bad days, we all are human, but this is yet another example of people minding their business, not trying to start any issues and other individuals assuming the worse and bringing unnecessary anger, fear, and anxiety to a situation. I also went to share that I had noticed that before the woman proceeded to block the bathroom, she had approached two black men sitting at the bar and then pointed towards us. As I exited the bar, I asked them. What did she say to you because I find it very interesting that she approached you and then proceeded to act in the way that she acted. To which one of the gentlemen said, "Because of other incidents, she told she told us to be alert and to keep an eye on you." My question is, is this something that is said to every patron that enters the Fulton ale house. Lastly, I didn't start with this, but I'll note that one of the last things I said to the bartender was this was particularly hurtful because this event was carried out by a white woman, who asked two black men to essentially "police" two black women on Juneteenth! To the management of Fulton Ale House, I don't want a response because I don't want to hear excuses...I just need you all to do better. Peace! read more

My friends love hanging here, and I decided to come by one night for trivia. It has a Brooklyn version of Cheers, with many regulars quipping up with inside jokes in unison. As comical as it was to watch, the first 15 minutes in the space took me back to the reviews of cold service. I was mostly ignored until my presence was verified by some regulars buying me rounds and authentic conversations. It seems like a cool whiskey club with drinks and a few items to nosh. Maybe a lot of folks come in for the bathroom or something. Go figure. Now. The rest of the experience was great. An amazing selection of whiskey, as well as other spirits ordinarily, is not in this area. The pizzas are pretty decent as well. I had the peppers and onion variety, and it was tasty. You don't get to claim you're a Buffalo bar if you can't show your own kind basic hospitality and you can't call yourself a bar if you don't know how to make the most basic of well drinks. Bartender served my girlfriend a vodka cran after she asked for a rum and coke. When she politely went to ask for the correct drink the bartender gaslit her that she was wrong and had other patrons take a sip of the drink to prove it was a rum and coke and they agreed it wasn't... bizarre behavior. When he came back with a new drink we watched him poor vodka in it and sure enough tasted like a vodka coke. We closed our tab and left. Claimed I was escalating the situation after I said "bro you made the wrong drink." Was def a misogynist giving my gf a hard time just cuz. Also, looks like the same night we went a customer was racially profiled after using the bathroom. What a pathetic establishment. Bills and Sabres fans take your hard earned money elsewhere. Love the feel of this place when you walk in. I love a bar that has that real bar feeling. The wooden bar with wooden stool to match. Small but not stuffy small. I came in to watch the playoff game, great place to watch sports. I know places bigger than this with barely enough tvs. Fulton Ale House has a lot of tvs and big. I found myself in Brooklyn because I had a friend in town that was staying close by this spot. So we randomly picked it out and it turned out to be a great spot. The beer wow the list would make any beer lover blush. I tried a new IPA and all I remember is the first part of the name -Sci-Fi. This is a great balanced IPA ABV 7% which is perfect. First of All, the ambiance is great. The low lights and classic wood furnishings give the place a warm feel. There is also many TVs if you like sports and want to watch the Knicks game. ..lol ! It's not that big of a place, so come early. Besides that, the prices are decent and the customer service was great. I didn't ask for a menu but I guess they have limited options. The pizza tasted good, it wasn't overpowering. ENDLESS OPTIONS OF BEER AND DRINKS :-) Other than that, the music selection was pretty chill... quite diverse in a indie - pop- 70s funk kinda way. Came here during the World Cup games. It was my first time visiting this bar. There was a $20 bar minimum per person during the games. The bar had a great lively atmosphere. The bar doesn't really serve food (I saw them warming up frozen pizzas) but you are also not allowed to bring food in. Drinks/beers are alright, prices are within reason, and the location is great. A modern pub with enough screens to find something to watch. Just on that, they'd get at least 4 stars. However, the 2 stars is due to the management/service. I've been here a few times and every time, I leave with the feeling I was treated "differently". Came here for drinks and links on a Tuesday night after a long day of work. The bar wasn't crowded. I was able to enjoy beer at happy hour prices. This bar is remarkable chill, ideal for catching up with friends and going on a date. There are also several games for you to play as you sip slow. There's chess, darts, and other board games. Unsafe. Unkind. Uninviting. Ole' Saint Nic looking barkeep put on his micro aggressing body of armor last night.. The story: we met at this locations with a handful of ladies to celebrate a birthday. The birthday girl isn't a big drinker so our requests were basic. Bottled beer, white, cocktails listed on the menu. The bar had about 5 other patrons present, but for some reason it took Santa forever to make our drinks, and then the alcohol served was made in a way that made the drinks undrinkable. No ice really for chilled beverages. No mixes for the mixed beverages. I literately could not drink what was ordered. I felt like I was served ever clear. This place is also located doors down from a wonderful French Fry spot (Spuds) from which we ordered and brought into the bar. After serving our drinks and closing our tabs, the bartender tells us no outside food... while we are eating and after we've set up at a full table. His explanation was that they serve food.. meanwhile.. there were no food menus in sight and no kitchen.. and no offerings of such. After telling the keep we'd finish our drinks at leave, he somehow had so much time to stand at the end of the bar where we were, and stare us down. I don't think he served anyone for a full 15 minutes or so because he was posturing like a peacock. At this point in time we weren't eating, our boxes of food were closed and bagged. He was literally trying to make our group feel uncomfortable and threatened. One member of our party politely asked him why he was postering so.. he confirmed indeed he'd been leaning on the bar in our direction for 15 minutes.. but that was due to his arthritis... The only thing that set us apart from the other patrons.. was our demographic. If you want a good drink. This isn't the place. I'd you want to feel safe and respected, I suggest any other place on the same block. Will never go back. Wish we had our money returned for the awful drinks and service. I finally was able to stop by Fulton Ale House, formed by the co-workers (Mike and Diane) from my neighborhood bar, Highbury Pub. The bar is fantastic, it looks great, with exposed brick and wood accents thanks to one of the designers Diane. It is a welcoming spot in an area of Brooklyn undergoing gentrification, but they have made all the efforts to ease themselves in the neighborhood and they are welcoming and accommodating to all patrons in the neighborhood. I need to come back on a Sunday during their Jazz night and their busier nights which I am told has a much eclectic and inclusive crowd. It is a great spot to bring someone, or to just hang solo watching a game in one their 5 screens. read more

This review is a bit odd since I didn't actually eat or drink in the establishment. The inside is nice - nothing major to gawk about, but what threw me off was how "out of" everything they were. They had listed beers on yelp but didn't have any of them in stock. The bartender told us he had the drink menu but only at the end of the bar. He then told us the patio was under construction. Came to this bar on a whim. I'm not going to get into some long spiel about how this was the worst bar of the century or how there were white doves flying over our heads as we entered. It's just a Bar to me. You come, you drink and you laugh. Then you open or close tab and head out. I think they had a game night when we entered so that was a little interesting. It was background noise. I suppose it is definitely a community at this bar already established but I also feel like I can get down with it. They had some Hard Cider that I was interested in and the Bartender was honest and helpful about the drinks that he liked and didn't try yet. I appreciate that. He was also very thankful and patient with our indecisiveness. I would return again for sure. My sole reason for not giving it a full 5 stars is I feel like I did not get to experience it in full. I would love to come in at the beginning of a game night. It was a really chill time watching sports, drinking and chatting it up with the guys. I have sort of liked going here until today. It has been hard to figure out this place. The owner (I am assuming) has always been extremely rude. She always has so many rules when you walk in that you are already kind of put off but have always just let it go because there aren't many pubs in the area. The experience today though has now solidified that I will never ever patronize the bar again. We have taken our dogs to the back area many times and never has anything been said to us or turned away unless the bar was very busy. Today for some reason, it was an attack day. As soon as I walked in, the bartender and the owner were completely nasty to me. I was grouped into "everyone" just walking into the bar thinking they can bring their dogs in. I am not that person and would never just assume that I could do that if I did not have past history with having it be okay. If it had not been for the extremely nasty tone from both of them from the onset, I would have probably let it go but there is absolutely no excuse for that. Good riddance! read more

Today I decided to take a break and have a glass of beer at a local Bed Stuy establishment. I left highly offended when it was time for me to pay for my beer. I realized after I ordered the beer that it was a $10 minimum on debit cards. I told the bartender (white guy with a baseball hat husky possibly brown hair) that I will go next door after I finish my beer to withdraw the money for the bill, which was only $5. Before I decided to go next door, the bartender asked me to leave my phone with him in case I do not come back. I was highly offended, and I do not know if it was because of the color of my skin, that he did not believe that I will return to pay for a measly $5 beer. I Proceeded to tell him I will not under any circumstance leave my phone or anything of valuable nature just for a $5 beer. I have never been so embarrassed in my life and I truly believe that it was because I am black and his patrons do not normally look like me. I will never patronize this establishment and it makes me extremely sad and embarrassed along with many other feelings but this has happened to me in my own gentrified neighborhood. All of this for a $5 beer, I mean I work really hard and have a career! To add further insult to injury, I put a paper on top of my beer to indicate that I am coming back to finish my beer. Once I came back the bartender threw my beer away and said I didn't have to pay for it. I said I will pay for my beer and I tipped him. Update: The owner replied and explained that she was there the entire interaction and felt the bartender was right. She also proceeded to explain that she feels there was nothing wrong with what happened. I responded: Unfortunately, regardless of your response to be, this does not alleviate the situation. Its truly ashame , again , as a owner you sat there and did not intervene. At the end of the day, I am a member of the community that was willing to spend my money at your business. This interaction was judgmental and could be presumed as racist. I will stand by my statement to say, if I looked like you or your bartender, I would not have been treated in this manner. Also, as a bartender I know if someone put something over their glass, it is an unspoken rule that the person is coming back. Your bartender took it upon himself to throw my drink away. In your response, it further proved that you and your bartender really thought I was not coming back to pay for my $5 dollar drink. At the end of the day, you lost me as a customer and more than likely future customers over you and your prejudice attitudes. I have no reason to ever skip out on a bill, especially one for $5. I have friends (non African American etc) that have been in this situation and have never been asked to leave a valuable item for a $5 dollar drink. I am pretty sure again, if I was a White professional man/woman and I ordered that $5 dollar drink, you would not have asked me to leave a valuable item. All I ask is for trust in your neighborhood and patrons that are "different". Again, this is my neighborhood, born and raised. I frequent many bars and restaurants. I come from a family that owned bars. I know what customer service is and most importantly I know what respect looks like. The way the situation happened yesterday, showed lack thereof. You should be ashamed to admit that you was the owner that sat through all of this. My voice will be heard and respected on all platforms as the power of communication is beautiful. read more

Love the vibe, atmosphere, and bartender. But - HOT TIP: don't order any food. It comes from the Thai place next door, but isn't yummy Thai food. The fish and chips were awful - and I didn't expect much. I would've been so much more pleased, (that is hard to say, because there's zero to be pleased with in the food department) with a bag of kettle chips or even popcorn to go with my beer. I LOVE this place. It's the best sports bar this side of Atlantic Avenue. I do have to warn you: they are a PRO-Buffalo bar, so on Sundays, the Bills get top billing here. This week a good friend and I decided to reconnect over a few drinks and how lucky we were to patronize Fulton Ale House which is within a few block of both our houses. We decided to take advantage of the happy hour. We both marveled at the basic beauty of the bars layout. It was clear that it's a new bar and their just getting started. I believe Fulton Ale House will prove to be a keeper. My hope is that the summer will bring about great things and utilization of the backyard patio area. Fulton Ale House has a nice selection of draft beers and your standard top shelf brands. I believe your getting much more then just good drinks at the Fulton Ale House. The staff is warm and friendly, genuinely interested in getting to know it's customers. I appreciate the glass front, I find it to be very welcoming. I noticed other new establishments are doing the same. I'm sure with time and becoming more familiar with the community, the bar will offer even more drink choices and perhaps a few more snack options. Came in for game one of the NBA finals, bar tenders were slow, took 30 minutes to get a drink, and they were also arguing with each other. Wasn't sure if I'd come back but got coaxed into trying it again for game 5... I'm currently here, it's about to be halftime and it's still taking 30 minutes to get a drink. They've also instituted a $20 minimum for everyone (not a cover, but $20 at the bar), which wouldn't be bad if it didn't take forever to get a drink. We asked for 10 Modelos and they were out, they also were stunned we asked for 10 beers like it was an inconvenience. I worked in the bar industry for a long time, and from my experience, this crowd is not nearly big enough to justify these wait times or how unfriendly the service is. When I was in the marines my platoon sgt once told me "try everything twice," well I've tried this place twice and will literally never come back. If it's a slow night, maybe it's worth it for you, but if you're coming to watch a big game, go elsewhere read more

Nice place. I have a love hate relationship that you have to order on the touch screen but it literally comes like 2 minutes after you send it in (drinks I mean) not sure about food. Guys next to me we're having wings and cheesesteaks and it looked and smelled delicious.
