This year we walked up and down the streets where nutcrackers were lined up and it was so fun to look at each one. Along the way we would stop into stores and browse. They also have a market set up with local vendors selling a variety of goods, crafts and yummy eats and drinks! They also had Christmas trees outside with different themes. One benefited the Humane Society and you could write your pets name on a wooden ornament. Very cute. I really recommend you stop by. I think this is a cute activity for families and children or a date night. I will continue to visit!

More importantly, he is a wealth of knowledge who present information on any artifact to which any visitor was drawn. He put the information into context for young and old alike. This is such a fun places for people of all ages! Kids love it because there are hands on…read moreactivities and a fun ride. Adults love it because there is some interesting history plus the trolley ride! A huge plus is that this location is Autism certified and they really mean it. Every staff person has been trained and are knowledgeable about their programs that they offer and are great at what they do. The museum was recently redone and has a lot of interactive exhibits and fun historical displays. There is a lot to read and learn, or kids can just enjoy the game aspect of some of the exhibits. When you exit the museum, you are at the trolley stop and can take a ride on the trolleys! They depart twice an hour (check the schedule when you are getting your tickets). The day I visited they had a New Orleans car and another that were alternating rides. It was fun to take the fairly quick round trip and get some additional information about trolleys. There is another building beyond the trolley tracks that has a large variety of trolleys from various eras and in various states of repair. You can walk through some of them and others you can just look at. There is also the famous Mr. Roger's Trolley. They have a lot of fun special events (like Santa and Easter Bunny trolleys). I highly recommend a visit here for people of all ages and interests!

I have been here on more than a few occasions, going all the way back to school field trips as a…read morechild. Generally, it's a pretty cool place to visit and explore. This time we checked out an "Experience" from our local library, which allows free admission. This program is great, and allows you to visit Meadowcroft, plus the Heinz History Center, and the Fort Pitt Museum. In the morning, we explored the visitor center and the Native American Village. We liked throwing the Atlatl, which launches big, spear-like darts at a fake deer target to see if you can get them to stick. Afterwards, we left the site to go have lunch about 15 minutes away, and then did a short hike at Cross Creek Lake, where we saw a historic Truss Bridge from 1881. We came back to Meadowcroft, and climbed the steps to the Rock Shelter. We had seen this before, but we were able to experience some excavation work with the staff and scientists. We saw a recent discovery of a chipped flint that was 3,000 years old. Afterwards, we finished exploring the rest of the property. We liked throwing axes, playing double ball, and some other games. The old museum part was slightly disappointing, as it smelled heavily of mold, and I didn't want to stay in the buildings because of the smell. Neat old coaches and wagons in there, but I saw them before, so we were in and out quickly. Lastly, we did the Historic Covered Bridge (looks like it was re-done recently with new wood), the school, church, blacksmith shop and log cabin. All pretty cool to see. Overall, a nice day here at Meadowcroft ... Cheers!

The geologist at the rock shelter was very interesting. There was a guest from Toronto who drove up from Wheeling to visit Meadowcroft. The conference center is still under construction. The bathrooms are open. Lots of stalls that are roomy. The gift shop was a great starting and ending point.

We always have to visit the concessions stand. My kids normally want the popcorn and icees. We don't get to come as much as we like to but usually have a great time when we do get to come.

Try to bring a small car if you wanna be put up front. Not every spot has speakers which is why they have you tune your car radio in. Make sure to bring blankets to have even in the summer because mosquitos will get you. Some people burn citronella candles. Bring an extra handheld radio if you wanna sit out on a blanket because the speakers that are on the posts only go so far! Make sure to eat at the concession stand so this place stays in business!

This is an exhibit in Terminal A commemorating the military service of the Tuskeegee Airmen, an…read moreall-Black fighting force who flew in World War II. The exhibit not only provides information about servicemen from Western Pennsylvania who served, it also provides historical context for their service, including the discrimination they faced and how Black newspapers of the time covered their story. This is an important piece of American history and I was glad to learn about it in this approachable way. Supplemented with many photos of those who served.
