I was so disappointed in the Boise location for FMI. I did see a provider and I was very pleased with the visit however, follow up communication was certainly lacking. I would say most Drs provide an option to communicate via a portal for non urgent matters for follow up etc. When I tried to do this I was unable to use the patient portal to communicate with my Dr. When I contacted her medical assistant to ask for assistance she told me that was just the way it was and many patients complain but that they have not fixed it yet. This makes no sense to me. I have never had an issue with other portals and two way communication. Isn't that the purpose of a portal? I was given no other options and it was recommended to find another Drs office. She was frustrated it appeared because she received this complaint often. She had no idea when this would be fixed. It is important to me to be able to communicate with my Dr without making another visit in person. WOW. Now I have to start all over with another provider. Worse service EVER! The response and follow up from the staff is very slow and unresponsive. If you say you're going to call back within 24 hours then call back within 24 hours. If you say you're going to check with the provider and get back to me then get back to me. If I follow up via the portal and request a call back. Call me don't respond in the portal because I'm not looking there. In addition every time that I have a PCP Within one year they are gone. I have to start over with another PCP. The turnover must be high. read more

I had my first appt at Function Medicine one week ago. It was the most uncomfortable experience I have had in a doctor's office. When I made the appt I explained to the scheduling person, I needed someone who could help me maintain my hormone health. She gave me a doctor that specializes in gut health and during the appt he asked me if I asked for the right doctor. He did not know anything about what I was taking/using for my hormones and when I started to talk to him about a different issue he threw up his hands and said "you are asking so much of me" I had to calm him down. He said he could just replace the prescriptions I was taking and would order some bloodwork. He clearly was out of his comfort zone and both of us should have stopped the appt so I could schedule with someone who could help me. I went home and decided I could not go back and called to share my experience with the office manager. I left a message and a week later have not received a call back. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Beware this place won't do your yearly visit as a well visit. They Nickle and dime you.

Unfortunately I haven't had a good experience. I have good health insurance but the billing codes Functional Medicine uses are questionable. If insurance won't cover the billing codes they submit, they aren't subject to the contracted rates with the insurance company for visits, therefore the patient pays a much higher cost out of pocket. The same goes for the labs they order. If you go to the lab in their building, the standard wellness labs that are covered by insurance don't get paid by the insurance company because of the billing codes. Again, patient pays over $2,000 out of pocket for labs that cost approx $500 or less at other labs and should be covered by insurance. This smells like an scam just under the radar to get paid more money. Beware. They say they will correct the billing codes but they don't and eventually they quit responding to calls. read more

I have been a patient and so has my family members for nine years. The quality of care has been amazing-knowledgeable and diagnostics have been great. While I really appreciate the functional medicine approach that I have received while being a patient, I am VERY frustrated with the turnover of my doctors. On average. I have to get a new doctor every year and a half at FMI. The last two times my doctors have resigned. I never received any notification. I actually went back into my email to verify that there was nothing sent to me to let me know that those people were no longer employed at FMI. The first time I was in the middle of a health crisis at the emergency room and I could not believe when I reached out to my FMI practitioner to find out that that person was no longer employed. It caused a lot of problems and delay for me for getting further testing/care. Today I found out the same thing!!! I was told in the spring that my practitioner would be going down to one day a week for the next year. I happen to call to start pursuing getting another practitioner when I found out that my "current" doc was no longer employed in the company and left two months ago.. There is NO EXCUSE for not notifying patients of their doctors' resignations! Such a simple administrative duty... If the administrative side of FMI did a better job I would give it 5 stars but unfortunately, I can only give it 3 read more

Buyer Beware. Providers are awesome, but memberships and ALL programs, presentations, services, etc are fee based and most are pricey. It takes forever to get an appointment and the only way patients can communicate with providers is via a patient portal limited to a very short 250 characters which are handled by the assistants to the Physician's Assistants. You can reach your own conclusions on that issue. I could write a LOT more, but "Buyer Beware" is worth a thousand words. read more

Last time I had an appt here, we waited in the waiting room for an hour because the front desk forgot to check us in. No apology, nothing, I had two little babies to entertain, which wasn't easy. Today we came, and I had our appt scheduled for 7:45. We got there at 7:39 and were told at the desk that our "grace period" was over by four minutes. Something we had never been disclosed to prior. Apparently we were scheduled at 7:30 instead. I asked if we could see the doctor for the remaining 5 minutes of the appt since I just needed a recommendation for my son's eczema. I was told no. Now I had four little ones, up at 7 am ready to go for this appt. So I asked if I could wait for a few minutes to see if the doctor's next appt was a no show. The lady at the desk said I could come back for an appt at 11:30, or see a different provider at 9. We waited until about 8:05 and left to come back for the 9 am appt. This time I made sure to be 15 minutes early. We didn't see the doctor until 9:30, 30 minutes after the appt time. The doctor had zero suggestions for a cream, and had zero clue what could have caused it (he has eczema only during the summer) so he was incredibly unhelpful. I repeated myself to him multiple times, I don't think he was really listening. I told him we tried a steroid cream and it seemed to work a little but that I didn't want to keep using it and he told me to keep doing whatever we are doing since it's working a little... I've only liked Dr. Brus at this office, we've seen multiple providers, but if you can stomach the disgusting office polices and staff just to see him, good for you. If not, I encourage you to try elsewhere. We're 100% headed elsewhere after this experience. read more

We have been going here for awhile and have enjoyed the pediatric side since my child was a baby. It's gotten so out of hand now though. My 15 min app was over 200.00 and they charged me extra for going 5 min over the appointment time. Mind you NO one told me that if we go over I will be charged more no one was sitting in the corner timing the app and stopped the app when we hit 15 min. Nope they just quietly add that on and then you find out on the bill later. It's a good thing I don't remember the doctors name for our last app because what a joke. In my 20 min app it was a complete joke. I was told my son was smart and to put coconut oil on the affected area. Paid over 200 for that information. Don't go here. Also left thinking I had put over 100 towards the bill that day nope it was applied to an old bill from 2024 that I had no idea about and was not told at the front desk that was what I was paying. My fault for not paying that bill but like communication...... we will never go here again sadly read more

These bad reviews are mostly about being late to apts and totally not fair IMO to be late to an apt knowing their policies and then decide to blame the establishment by writing a bad review here. Be on time, always plan to arrive early especially with kids! My review: FMI and specifically Dr Brus is the best. We have always had a great experience and felt that my daughter (18 months) has been cared for. Using after hours portal for us has been INCREDIBLE. As first time parents every little thing that comes up you want to ask your Dr and we have got pretty immediate responses from Dr Brus directly or staff which has given us peace of mind. If you are looking for functional medicine where the treat/cure the actual cause with diet and natural/holistic remedies first before turning to pharmaceuticals then this is the place for you. Having become allergic to 3 diff types of antibiotics myself growing up from overuse, I'm relieved to know that you don't have to go straight to an antibiotic sometimes. We've learned so much and just overall so thankful. Thanks FMI! read more

It is quite disheartening to be in the position that I am in needing to write this review. We have been going to this facility for about a year and both my daughter's practitioner and my practitioner left in less than that time. We were happy with the care we were receiving, however, the customer service and policies of this facility are sub-par and the general availability is not adequate. Today's appointment was very telling. The appointment was scheduled a week out; which seems to be the average soonest availability of any provider on a given week. The appointment was not with her primary practitioner (because he wasn't available for even longer) but we needed to compromise because, well health care issues matter. This appointment was for our daughter. We both took work off to come to the appointment and we arrived 1 minute past their 5 minute "grace period" (which was never even disclosed to us). The receptionist informed us that our daughter could no longer be seen and asked if we wanted to reschedule. She didn't offer any compromise, didn't care to understand where we were coming from, and didn't seem to care about the inconvenience of the situation we had been put in due to a policy we were not even made aware of. The reschedule options were for the following week but not with a pediatric doctor. If we wanted our daughter's actual doctor it would have been two weeks out. We already waited a week and because we were 6 minutes late we were being asked to wait 2 more weeks. This is not viable for a family who has a normal level of responsibilities. This facility is probably fine for anyone who is a stay at home parent with only a single kid and no other obligations in life and is fine waiting a minimum of a few days but likely over a week to see their doctor when something arises. However, if you do have work, more than one kid, pets, or other responsibilities, FMI and its bureaucratic policies (that are not disclosed up front) is probably not for you. I didn't feel it was worth making a stink while there since it is clearly a systemic issue with FMI and not a one-off. Unfortunately, they are currently the only provider I can find in the valley that offers the type of approach to medicine our family desires that also takes insurance. So until a comparable competitor emerges we are kind of stuck. Again, happy with the doctors. Just not happy with the rest of the experience. It would be nice to feel like we are a name and not just a number. Perhaps they will improve on this with time. read more

Well if you go here and have questions after your appointment don't expect any help or responses from any of the medical staff. My daughter had a pretty bad cold and fever and after 5 days decided to get her in for a visit. Although Dr Brus was great, it was after that they have short comings. We were given 2 prescriptions to administer to our daughter, after taking one of them she developed a mild rash on her stomach but did not bother her and went away over night. Wanting to make sure we were continuing the correct treatment we reached out 3 times to the office, only on the third time and my wife insisting on talking to at least an MA did we get to speak to someone. The MA's only answer!!?? If we are concerned we should take her to urgent care, that's it. Wouldn't talk to the Dr and said no appointments available today so nothing she could do to help. Although I love the idea of functional medicine, this place is just a money grab. I doubt they will survive long term read more

We're really happy with functional medicine of Idaho. We started our care here with ultrasounds during my pregnancy. Then moved over to New Beginnings Birth Center for care during pregnancy, birth, postpartum (they're incredible btw!). We are back now and still love this place. Dr Brus is our pediatrician. Very nice to see a doctor who values informed consent and respectfully and kindly gives options to parents. I'll be back for my own postpartum follow up in a couple of months. I think this place is a great idea. We were sold with their holistic approach. We loved Dr. Bruis and Aaron. However, my 4 month old baby became sick and I tried to make an appointment. They said the soonest they could get him in was 5 weeks away and to take him to urgent care. We took him to urgent care and they tested and confirmed he has whooping cough. I called FMI back and asked to have a follow up in a week to make sure the medication was working and he was getting better. They said they cannot get him back in and that I need to go back to urgent care for a follow up. I tried to ask them questions over the phone regarding his whooping cough but they stated they would not like to give an opinion. The whole point of having a pediatrician is so your child can be seen by the same doctor when they are sick. Extremely disappointed they do not keep appointments open for their own patients when they are sick. I would think as my child's pediatrician they would care about his well being and not continuously refer him to urgent care. I would NEVER recommend this place due to this reason. read more

I have a 6 month old baby and I needed to move my appointment to before we went out of town. I wanted to ask about moving to stage 2 formula before we left. The front desk wanted me to come in twice and said that I couldn't ask that question during my Well Child check up. I told them I was cash pay and couldn't come in twice. Then when I showed up for my appointment, there were people checking in/out in front of me. When it was my turn to check in, they told me they have a 3 minute late policy and it was now 4 minutes past my appointment. They said I needed to reschedule and they couldn't see me. Seems like the staff is lacking situational customer service. I would suggest not coming here. read more

Love this place!! Jennifer Paulson is who I primarily see and she always listens to me and I don't feel rushed like at a normal doctors office. I love how they look at what we are eating and products around us that could be causing problems, instead of just prescribing meds. They recently hired someone for last minute appointments which has been amazing! I also love how they have a supplement store in the lobby with trusted supplements. We have always felt welcomed by all of the providers we've seen over the past two years especially by Dr.Brus and Dr.Kravchuk for my girls. Upon getting seen at these functional facilities you go through intense questionnaires as to see if you and the office would be a good fit. They ask if you are more geared to organic, non gmo, grass fed, and even if you are willing to pay more to figure out the problem vs your normal quick fix type of visits. Anywho just thought I'd share that we have had good luck with this office. It is hard to get in especially with Dr.Brus, but there are other providers who are more open and just as great such as Nadia. I have noticed though when we are being seen with Dr.Kravchuck you are going to be waiting a bit to be seen(happened 2x) but I've realized now it's because she takes such good notes!!! read more

I'll start by saying, we love Dr. Brus who is our regular pediatrician. He's been amazing every time we see him. However, our most recent experience at FMI has left me feeling the need to write a review.. I made a last minute appointment for my 3 month old who was sick. I was grateful they were able to get me an appointment within 30 minutes, even though it wasn't with our usual doctor. I hustled to get my 3 kids rounded up and we hit the road. I showed up THREE minutes after the five minute grace period. The weather was not on my side so I called while on my way to let them know I'd be a few minutes late. They said it would be fine. Once I got there, I was now told I couldn't be seen because Dr. Aaron Dykstra was "done for the day and he wanted to leave." I left in tears- I can't wrap my head around the fact that a doctor would choose to get his weekend started over seeing a sick child who was a total of 8 minutes late, and the final appointment of his day. read more

This practice should be well past the learning curves, however, they still haven't mastered the basics - just answer the phones, employ people who understand insurance and billing, be up front about about fees, and return calls - that's all! Would highly recommend this place for your medical needs! The office is so clean and bright. You don't feel like you are in a doctor's office. The staff is warm and welcoming. My kids saw Dr. Brus in December here and had just as great of an experience. My older daughter was scared of doctors, but isn't after coming here and seeing Dr. Brus. He was so great with both my kids and you can tell he really cares! I was finally able to get an appt for myself and saw Heidi Arens. She was great! She was a wealth of information and everything she said actually made sense. I had Kaiser before moving here and they were a nightmare. I am not used to seeing someone who actually cares and listens. You don't feel like just a number. Heidi took so much time with me and set up a plan after hearing my concerns. I didn't feel like they just wanted to throw pharmaceuticals at me as they push you out the door like with Kaiser. They actually want to get to the root of your health concerns and not just suppress with medication. I am able to get blood work and ultrasound done in the same building which is great. I am excited to finally see a health care professional who really cares and understands. I would highly recommend FMI Meridian office and Heidi Arens! read more
