These markers highlight important people and places throughout Florida. They can be found along roads, at archaeological sites, battlefields, cemeteries, churches, colleges, historic districts, schools, and in front of historic buildings like this one. This marker tells the story of the oldest continuously operating funeral home in St. Cloud. It's deep history has been shaped by a committed owners, visionary architects, and a deep community foundation. Marker F-1100 was installed in 2020 by St. Cloud Main Street, Fisk Funeral Home and Crematory, and the Florida Department of State. In 1915, licensed embalmer Carl E. Carlson opened an undertaking business in a rented building at Massachusetts Avenue and 11th Street in St. Cloud. Three years later, he purchased the former home and office of St. Cloud's first physician, Dr. C.S. Cooper, and transformed it into what was then considered a modern undertaking establishment. Carlson was first joined in partnership by John Newton and later by George Barber, a Union Army veteran who had settled in St. Cloud. In 1919, brothers Dana and William Eiselstein purchased the Carlson Funeral Home and continued operating the business alongside Barber. The business was renamed The Eiselstein Brothers. In 1925, architects Isabel Robert, an associate of Frank Lloyd Wright and Ida Annah Ryan of Orlando's pioneering all-female architectural firm were commissioned to design a new chapel. The exterior was remodeled in a Florida Spanish inspired style featuring a stucco finish known as Spaniflora design. The Fisk family's connection to the funeral home began when William Eiselstein married Susie Fisk. Her nephew, Robert A. "Bob" Fisk, graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1942 before serving with the U.S. Naval Hospital Corps during World War II. Following Dana Eiselstein's passing in 1949, Bob Fisk became the funeral director. His son, Bill Fisk, joined the business as a funeral director in the 1970s. In 1983, Bob Fisk became the sole owner and renamed the business Fisk Funeral Home. Bob Fisk served as a respected local historian and co-authored the book Images of St. Cloud. For much of the 20th century, Fisk Funeral Home was the only funeral home serving St. Cloud. Today, the funeral home continues its longstanding tradition of community involvement by supporting local heritage initiatives, including Walk in the Stones at historic Mount Peace Cemetery. Through these efforts, Fisk Funeral Home helps to preserve and share the stories of the veterans and community members who were laid to rest there.

We had my fathers funeral service yesterday!! And I had to run here to give a review. From the very…read morefirst moment they came to pick my father up after he past from his home at 2:00 am, they were incredibly humble, fragile, understanding and patient with my family. My father was in hospice at home and even though it has been almost two hours after he past saying goodbye was hard for my mother and my sister. They asked if we wanted to help putting my dad on the stretcher (we had 3 brothers there). Of course the boys wanted to help. But they were so gentle and gave us the option to leave or stay during this point. Also asked if we wanted to cover him up before he brought him out. We did of course. All the way till the very end when they put him in the car, they shook my hand and said they will drive him with car as if he was still alive! That was only the night he past, and it got better and easier. Mike at the funeral home was so patient, empathetic, gentle and understanding. He walk us through and even warned us the scams people will do once they find out someone dies. Actually made the process extremely seamless. Made a video for the family he played during the funeral. Sent us everything to review before proceeding. Even after the funeral we asked him to pay for everything he said "please today you mourn and spend time with your family, we will talk about that later!" Big thank you to the staff from the usher and everyone there to answer any question we had about the schedule etc. I definitely recommend this place. We never felt rushed even after saying our last goodbyes.

Our mother passed in Florida on the 5th of February. Our family is from Northeast Pennsylvania…read more Being from outside the area we received a list of funeral homes from the hospital. As I began looking thru the list I began checking reviews online & some of the things I read were scary. As I scrolled thru the reviews I found on Conrad & Thompson they had excellent reviews and also I read that they support Veterans & Veteran families. Our family served in the United States Army. Myself, my brother and my dad. Seeing that they support vets is important to us and our mother is going to be laid to rest at the National Cemetery at Fort Indiantown Gap with our father who was a Vietnam Veteran. When we went to the funeral home they took great care of all our needs. We worked with Mr. Brady who is from Pittsburgh and that made us feel comfortable. They made the entire experience painless. We received our mother remains last week. I am thankful to Conrad & Thompson funeral home. They were professional thru entire process and they kept us informed of everything. In my opinion they are the best funeral home in Kissimmee, FL. Don't hesitate to use their services especial if you are from outside the area.
