She's very thorough, patient, knowledgeable and ALWAYS talks me through the Pap smear procedure even though I have had it done by her for so many years now. Dr Fung Yee Chan was our oncall OB while at CPMC Van Ness with our normal OB being part of the Pac Gyn clinic. Chan provided expert opinions about how to proceed while we were in labor. We followed her advice and had a silky smooth delivery. We pushed for 1.5 hours and she was there to deliver naturally in ~15 minutes. She did an expert job with stitching as well. One of the nurses that came by to check up on us afterwards made a comment about how well done the stitching was. We highly recommend finding an OB that's part of the Pac Gyn clinic. read more

This review is more about operations than the doctor. If you need a reliable OBGYN and expect your appointment to actually happen, stay away. The other review was accurate. We made an appointment 3 weeks out. Her office canceled our appointment THE DAY BEFORE our scheduled appointment because of a patient surgery. They wanted to reschedule another 3 weeks out. The fact that they cancel appointments THE DAY BEFORE is a huge kick in the nuts... and to reschedule for another 3 weeks out is truly infuriating. read more

Dr Chan is extremely difficult to get a hold of or to get an appointment with. I think she should make it clear that she prefers to have OB patients only so that those of us with GYN needs can go elsewhere. Her staff tried to pawn me off onto the nurse practitioner, and they actually told me that it was the same thing whether I saw a nurse or doctor! wow! what a pearl of wisdom, if only all those doctors all over the world putting themselves through medical school, residencies and fellowships knew that, it would save them so much time and money! She had a bunch of tests done for some urgent problems I was having and then I kept calling her when my symptoms got worse a few days later but i couldnt get a hold of her or get any answers. She left me a msg while I was in the restroom and I called her office back within a couple minutes of her msg but couldn't get a hold of her. And it has now been over a week that I have been trying to talk to her, my symptoms keep getting worse and she has disappeared. If you don't have the time then stop seeing patients, just say that you cannot see patients and they should see someone else! Stop jeopardising people's health and wasting everybodys time! read more

This review is about 8 months late but I still can't get over how wonderful my experience in pregnancy/labor with Dr. Chan was. I was an extremely anxious patient- I have a lot of medical anxiety and work in an adjacent field, so I know what can go wrong- which made me a nightmare at every appointment. Dr. Chan took so much time to calmly talk me through all my questions. She never made me feel bad about my anxiety. Even when I got upset and freaked out over minor things, she always treated me with the utmost patience, kindness, and respect. I wanted a super heavily medicated labor with as little pain as possible and she totally made it happen. I will always be so thankful to her for that. But I know that if you wanted the opposite experience, she would also support that and do everything in her power to give you the birth you want, while prioritizing your safety and the baby's. She delivered my (over 9lb!!!) daughter without any complications, which is hands down, the best gift anyone could ever give me. And I knew I was in good hands with her checking in on me in the hospital after delivery. The whole time I was pregnant I kept saying I was going to be "one and done", which is still probably going to be the case! But if I ever change my mind I will 100% seek out Dr. Chan's excellent care again. When I first found out I was pregnant I thought about going to Dr. Green, because she's a big name with a lot of yelp reviews. But I saw one review that said she was not the best for a patient who needs a lot of hand holding, which is totally me. If you need a lot of hand holding, you're anxious, or you know too much, I cannot recommend Dr. Chan highly enough. read more

Dr. Chan was amazing with the pregnancy and birth of my first child. From preconception to delivery--she throughly explained results of each test, provided me with the numbers and let me know what they meant, and always gave me my options with her recommendations without being pushy. My pregnancy went smoothly until the end. Dr. Chan received a call that baby was in distress and that I was being transported to the hospital right after her shift had ended. She stayed to check me herself and walk me through everything that was happening. It helped me keep my wits that she was working quickly but calmly to get baby out safely. Dr. Chan is truly amazing. She was on-call when I had to have an emergency c section. She explained my baby was in distress and then she left while they got me ready. I was still resisting a C section so I asked the nurse to call Dr. Chan back for another consult before we went to the operating room. Dr. Chan was so patient with me and my million questions. I owe my life to this doctor. I picked Dr. Laurie Green to be my OB because I was so fearful I would have some major complication. I'm over 40 and it took us years to get pregnant via IVF. Dr. Green was tauted as being the best doctor for high risk pregnancies. So I was very disappointed when I was told that Dr. Laurie Green was not available during the final hours of my delivery even though she scheduled the enducement based on her schedule. Little did I know that it was a miracle that Dr. Fung-Yee Chan was on call that night. I experienced a rare condition (1 out of 10,000 births) called an amniotic fluid embolism where only 20% of women survive. Basically, my baby was stuck and could not pass my pelvic hip area. He was in distress. Everytime I pushed, the amniotic fluid was being pushed back into my veins surrounding my uterus. The amniotic fluid was toxic to my system and caused my blood to stop clotting. I immediately started hemorraging during my emergency c-section. Dr. Chan acted quickly to try and stop the bleeding. If it wasn't for her quick decision making, calmness under pressure and incredible surgical skills, I would not be alive today to see my baby. I owe my life and my babies life to her. We both survived the ordeal in good health. Dr. Chan came to see me many times after the delivery to see if I was ok. She has the most amazing bedside manner. You can tell she really cares and it's absolutely genuine. I highly recommend this OB doctor to anyone who thinks they may be having a high risk pregnancy. All you ladies out there who think its cool to do a home birth away from a hospital, think about my situation. My sister and mom never experienced this complication. It is rare, but can happen to anyone. You don't want to hope that the ambulance can get you to a hospital fast enough to save your life. I would have died for sure as well as my baby if I had to wait the 10-20 minutes it would have taken to get me to a nearby hospital. Not worth it! read more

It's hard for me to write this review simply because Dr Chan is so amazing I selfishly want to keep her to myself. Dr Chan is gets booked quickly but she's worth the wait! I've had 5 OBGYN's, all with high Yelp reviews, positive ref on health grades or through referrals from mom groups/friends. Most are pretty cookie cutter, cordial and thorough. When I was pregnant with my 1st child I started to see the difference between what makes a doctor average versus awesome. As a first time mom my previous OB rushed me in and out and didn't have the time nor the patience to answer my "first time" new mom questions. Onto the second OB who was in high demand and is known to double book her patients, she popped in to see me and left in a record 6 minutes. Dr Chan has amazing bedside manners, takes the time to answer all your questions as well as thoroughly covers any other areas you didn't realize you needed to be concerned about (hot tubs/saunas/max weight you should lift/foods to avoid/caring for yourself/influenza/etc). So why am I sharing the awesome secret new? Fast-forward 5 years she has been my OB for three pregnancies and delivered 2 of my 3 kids (my third arrived unexpectedly and Dr Chan was not working that day). She is AMAZING! read more

Is it awkward to say that I LOVE my OBGYN? Annual visits are not my favorite way to spend a Monday morning, but Dr. Chan makes you totally comfortable, chats with you about shopping, shoes, your weekend and also takes the time to answer all of your medical questions. I have been her patient for years and can't say enough about her. She's sweet, knowledgeable, experienced, personable and understanding. She helped me through all three of my pregnancies. She delivered my third child, with her calm and collective presence made the experience berable. I took one star off because of her popularity and busy scheudle. Many times I had to be rescheduled or see the nurse partitioner for non emergency visits, due her other patients that have emergencies or need surgeries. I would suggest schedule in advance and if possible schedule all your prenantual visits at once. She gets booked quickly. If you can get through her busy schedule, you'll be in great hands. Dr. Chan was my OB for my pregnancy and delivery of a healthy baby girl this year and I cannot say enough positive things about her. She is a conscientious and detail-oriented doctor. As an older first time mom, I wanted someone who would monitor my pregnancy closely, answer all of my questions, and talk science with me to allay my concerns. During one office visit, she noticed something irregular and did three things that really impressed me: 1) She talked to me about outcomes and reassured me; 2) she took immediate action to follow up on the issue, calling the perinatologist so that I could get an appointment same day; 3) this all took place on a Friday, and she told me that she would call me at the end of the day so that I would NOT start the weekend without knowing exactly what was going on. And then she did so. Everything turned out fine and I so appreciated both her attention to detail and her extreme sensitivity about getting me an answer right away and not leaving me in the dark. I am a current patient of Dr. Chan and went through a pregnancy with her so I have been a happy patient in the past. I have been trying to book an appointment for my way past annual check up and her office cancelled my appointment 3 times in a row. Each time I have been given a 2-3 weeks date and then been called a few day before to be informed that I need to reschedule. Finally I called the office and asked if there is a particular reason my doctor is avoiding to see me. I was informed that Dr. Chang needs to cancel appointments to accomodate patient surgeries. I booked an appointment with another doctor. I am very dissapointed that I wasted 2 months trying to book an appointment for a general check up and feel totally disprected by her and her office. I am not a new patient and if she is not available to see her existing patients, she should just not book appointments instead of cancelling them. read more

Dr. Chan delivered my daughter. She's a total rockstar (Dr. Chan I mean, not my daughter - though my daughter is pretty rad too).
