I had the privilege of seeing Dr. Yu and Rhonda for about 11 years, and I was heartbroken to learn that Dr. Yu was no longer at CPMC (now at Kaiser). I recently tried to schedule my annual appointment, only to discover the news. I have never been so sad to lose a doctor. Dr. Yu was the first doctor I truly felt comfortable with, and her compassionate nature made all the difference in my care. She is an exceptional listener and has guided me through various life moments with expertise and kindness. I also want to express my heartfelt appreciation for Rhonda, who has always been incredibly kind, supportive, and patient with me. This review is long overdue. I was recently on Yelp actually searching for a new OB/GYN, as Dr. Yu has now moved on to Kaiser, and it made me reflect on my experience with her. Simply, I cannot express how grateful I am for her care, she truly saved both my life and my daughter's life. I unfortunately had a serious complication where my placenta ruptured, and in that critical moment, Dr. You made the quick and life-saving decision to perform an emergency C-section on me. I can't even imagine the outcome if it weren't for her fast thinking and incredible professionalism. She got my daughter and me through that moment safely and I will forever be thankful. Even after the delivery, when my daughter sadly had to stay in the NICU for two weeks, Yu continuously checked in on us and offered her emotional support. As a first time mom, I was so naive but she guided me through every step with such kindness and patience. She didn't just care for me physically, but emotionally as well. I feel incredibly lucky to have had Dr. Yu by my side during such a vulnerable time. Her dedication, compassion, and genuine care are things I will never ever forget. read more

TLDR: Do not see this cold and ignorant doctor if you are middle - aged / perimenopausal. I had an awful experience with her - one that I waited patiently 2.5 months for. I wanted to see her for a singular issue but her staff kept insisting I had to have a new patient appointment which would "REQUIRE THE FULL 30 MINUTES .... I show up 5 minutes early....she is over 30 minutes late! Then she proceeds to spend 17 minutes with me then brushes me and my perimenopause concerns off. I ask her if I could at least get a quick physical breast exam to feel for lumps (we all know how long those take, 2 minutes)....she says "Sorry, I don't have time for that... make another appointment". I was so shocked. So I said, "Please will you reconsider? It took public transit to get here, I waited a long time to see you because your staff said you needed a full 30 minutes with me. You were the one who was 30 minutes late and now I don't get the full appointment time. All I'm asking for is a very quick breast exam..."....nope... Appalling. I'm trying to imagine ANY scenario where I was a provider and turning someone away like this. It was strange and mean and felt like some sort of medical negligence. Oh and the appointment itself was just so-so...tbh, she kind of seemed like a dud. She didn't seem to know a ton about perimenopause - had more of that old school "we don't deal with it until you really stop bleeding" kind of attitude. I was so unimpressed. This is one of those times where Yelp let me down. I went to her because of all these great reviews but my experience was seriously disappointed. Her solution - "take this birth control and good luck..." Thank goodness I have another provider who is MUCH smarter, who already has me on a compounded estrogen patch and progesterone and is taking my risk factors seriously (migraine w/ aura = stroke risk for those who take estrogen etc). She knew all the research on gel vs cream vs oral....as one of many examples. PS - The only good part of my experience was the assistant she had working that day - not sure her name - a Black lady who was absolutely wonderful and a far cry from the other unhelpful people at the front desk etc. PS - She ignored my neurologist's instructions not to give me birth control (I am contraindicated for stroke for another reason). I went in there wanting a more peri/menopausal form of HRT (like estrogen patch, Prometrium form of progesterone etc) that was safer for my neurological issues. She literally did not care and fully disregarded. read more

Dr Yu seems like a nice doctor and I enjoyed my time with her. The main problem really lies in the clinic itself. Pacific Gynecology and Obstetrics is a bad clinic that is unresponsive and really focused on getting all the money out of you that they can. I recommend reading what others have to say about the clinic in their yelp review. I will share my experience with Dr Yu and the clinic. I met up with her for a checkup and she was attentive and great. She followed up with some results that were outside of expected range and told me to not worry. I trusted her and left it. My new doctor was shocked that follow up tests were not ordered and that they just left everything as is. The next time I went to the clinic was after I got pregnant via IVF. My first appointment was not with Dr Yu since she is going on maternity leave. I was not informed of this when I made my appointment. I met with someone else. The appointment with the new Dr was fine. Rushed but fine. I was told that they would shuffle me around doctors until Dr Yu returns. I came out and was trying to figure out where to make my follow up appointments. I asked someone and they were annoyed I was even asking. I let it go bc sometimes people have bad days. I went to do some bloodwork and the recommended genetic testing a few weeks later. The patient portal informed me I had test results. I checked and several red flags were raised from the blood work (including GD and anemia). I messaged the clinic and did not hear back. I even called the clinic twice and each time they said they would get back to me. BUT NOTHING. They just left me hanging. read more

Simply the best gyn I have ever gone to. If one can ever enjoy their gyn appointment, then I can say that I enjoyed mine. Dr. Yu is thorough, she fully explains what is going on. Frankly I put off going to the doctor because my other doctors were old school (you know the type where they say you need surgery without telling you why and you are of the generation that does not question them). Dr. Yu is knowledgeable, personable and immediately puts you at ease. I highly recommend her. And the staff around her puts you at ease too. She lays out options clearly and objectively, and truly cares about providing the best support and medical care for her patients. The staff is friendly, approachable and prompt. The building is an all-in-one facility. It has everything from a convenient parking garage, to a lab and Walgreens pharmacy on the lobby level. Dr. Yu is truly amazing! I loved going to check ups and it always felt like visiting a friend. I adore nurse Rhonda too! I had my baby early and it just so happened that Dr. Yu was on call. So, it turns out that different doctors advise different amounts of estradiol cream. However, the appointment was very rushed and she didn't explain why the instructions within the box shouldn't be followed. And while they offered to have a medical assistant call me back, I want to hear it from a doctor. I have had a number of incorrect diagnoses from PAs and they just don't possess the same knowledge as a doctor. read more

It's been a pleasure to have Dr Jean Yu as our OB. Great bedside manners, patient and knowledgeable. For every office visit we got all of our questions answered thoroughly and didn't feel rushed at all although she's quite busy. Pac Gyn has a great lineup of oncall doctors. I have been a patient of dr Yu the last nine months. From the time I found out I was expecting and was only around 7 weeks , the front desk staff were extremely friendly and scheduled a meet and greet immediately. After meeting Dr. Yu I knew she would be wonderful as would nurse Rhonda. They are both so sweet and I've enjoyed all my doctors visits. Dr. Yu has a very positive energy, she is always willing to listen to all sorts of questions regarding brith related topics or the usual what can't and can I eat during pregnancy. She is always professional and very caring which is what you need in an OB. Whenever I've called Rhonda she has always called me back even when the question is quite menial. Dr Jean Yu is the best - I ended up being induced a few weeks early with our first and she made me feel extremely well informed on the risks/trade offs with being induced vs not and confident in my decision. She is the most patient doctor I've ever worked with (answers all those first time pregnancy questions without making you feel rushed or silly), and ALWAYS has a smile on her face. Dr Yu is a great doctor! She's so sweet, personable, and helpful! I had to see her for a pregnancy complication and she put me at ease right away. She's not like many other doctors I have seen because she's not arrogant, she actually takes her time to explain things, doesn't rush, and makes sure you're completely comfortable before leaving the room. I wasn't really looking for Dr. Yu but am so glad she fell in my lap after a really unfortunate situation. I called PGOMG when I found out I was pregnant, I was pleasantly surprised that they asked me to come in that week and were able to fit me in as a new patient. They quickly diagnosed my pregnancy as ectopic and proactively monitored me and gave me the best course of action to make sure I was ok. I ended up having to have surgery and my Fallopian tube removed a few weeks later but Dr. Yu was there every step of the way. She is incredibly kind, sweet, understanding, sympathetic and most importantly an amazing Doctor. Going through such a difficult process and surgery I was a little concerned about her age/experience since she looks pretty young, but now I refer to her to my friends as my real life Doogie Howser :) She's incredible and has been the silver lining out of what could have been a complete nightmare. read more

I was so nervous and scared coming into my first obgyn appointment, but Dr. Yu made me feel really comfortable unlike any other doctor I've had before. She helped me feel relaxed and was very easy to talk to. She's super sweet and makes sure you feel comfortable and will thoroughly take time to explain and answer your questions or any concerns you may have. She really does care for you, listens well and will not rush you unlike some doctors who seem to rush out of the appointment to go to the next patient. I definitely recommend her as an obgyn.
