If you had asked me a few months ago how I felt about this salon, I would've given rave reviews. The staff there has always been wonderful and accommodating, and my dog and I left happy with the service. But after my experience today, if I could give less than 1 star for this review, I would. My partner and I bring our dog in every few months to use self service wash and get a nail trim. The self service is easy to use, though I wish they provided better towels as the weird black shamis do absolutely nothing to dry my short haired Pug/Chihuahua mix dog. One thing about my dog, he tends to be a bit anxious, and it takes two of us to hold him and keep him in the tub. He has a previous leg injury that makes his back leg weaker and at a higher risk for tearing his cranial cruciate ligament (CCL or CrCL), so we try and keep bath time short and as stress-free as possible so he's not straining too much. Another thing about him is that he also absolutely HATES the dryer. We've tried several times with no success because he always freaks out. He ends up scratching the heck out of both of us and trying to jump out of the tub or off the table. Even with a slip lead around his neck and shoulders, he ends up thrashing and is at risk for getting hurt. Today their stupid shami was doing NOTHING to get him dry, so I thought we could try the dryer on low briefly just to get more of the water out of his fur. It did NOT go well. Out of nowhere, an older grey haired woman entered our booth without asking or any kind of introduction, and immediately started intervening, telling me that I was doing it wrong. I tried to explain that he really doesn't like it, but she still stepped in and took control of him and tried to show me how it was done WITHOUT ASKING IF I WANTED HER TO. Again, he FREAKED out and was thrashing around and at risk for hurting himself and others. I told her we needed to stop, it was stressing him out too much. She then felt it necessary to say to me unprompted "your dog is a dog and not your child. If you keep treating him like a child, he will keep acting that way" and exited our booth. What the hell?!? I am an experienced dog owner and I'm very in tune with my dog's behavior. I can see when he's stressed or at his breaking point. I don't believe in pushing him past it to try and get him to do something I want him to do. I knew he needed a break, so I stopped trying to dry him. I, in no way shape or form, asked for help or her opinion, and was appalled at her lack of professionalism and rudeness. This was on top of how I heard her speaking to her staff, other dogs, and customers while I was there. Absolutely unacceptable behavior on her part. I told my partner to take our dog outside so I could finish cleaning up our station and pay. At checkout, I asked what was the gray haired woman's name from the employee helping me, which she told me was the owner. I was shocked to learn that an owner of a business catering to people and their dogs would feel it was OK to speak to someone that way. I let the employee know that we would NOT be getting our nail trim today, and that I wanted to hurry up and pay and leave and then I would NOT be returning. She apologized and offered to do the nail trim for free, making excuses for the owner like "I'm sorry, she's not always like that." But after reading through other reviews on here and Google, I can see that this is NOT a one time thing. While there are many 4 and 5 star reviews, there's more than enough saying that the owner is rude, unprofessional, and often cruel. I called later to reconfirm the name of the owner and the person on the phone was acting really cagey, saying she was a "volunteer "and she wasn't sure of the information, but if she took my name and number of someone would call me back. Screw that. I will not be returning to the salon EVER again, and I will tell everyone who will listen about my experience and the lack of professionalism by the owner. read more

This place is the best! As soon as I walked in I was greeted by the lovely employee at the front desk. I came in to use the dog bath station for the first time. She setup everything for me and explained how to use each item. The dog bath was great cause you can adjust it to your height so no bending over to wash and perfect for the dogs to access. The water was nice and warm and there was plenty of shampoo provided so my pup was nice, relaxed and CLEAN! Since it was her first time using the blower I anticipated that she would be scared which she was. I let the front know how wonderful my experience was and they said next time I can mention to them about her being afraid of the blower and they could provide me with ear muffs to help lessen the sound to helpfully help from her being afraid. Overall this was a great experience and perfect for anyone looking to use a self dog bath in Simi. Prices were very affordable and the tools provided were very useful (brushes, leave in conditioner, ear cleaner, cotton balls, collar with clip to tether dogs while grooming, variety of specific shampoos for different coats or dogs with allergies, towel to dry, apron and even goggles.) I would recommend bringing a second person if you have a dog that is on the bigger side and kind of scared of the loud sound of the dryer since it was difficult to use the blower and hold her in place. Luckily I had my husband there so he was able to comfort her and hold her in place. Thanks again for the wonderful experience Fur Grooming Salon! If I could give one star, I would. It is the most bizarre and exhausting experience I have ever had. On Saturday, 4/26 my puppy (11 month old, 12 pound mix) was groomed at Fur. Upon pick up, I was informed that there has been an accident. The groomer started telling me the story and finished by saying "don't make me tell you the rest". Essentially, the groomer chopped off one of his dewclaws but reassured that the injury was minor but the dog should be seen by a vet. I paid $87 for the grooming and left. My mom then called the salon to ask for a refund on the grooming, only to be yelled at by the owner, saying she doesn't speak English because she has an accent. The owner added that the accident was the dog's fault as he kicked the groomer when the buzzer was being used. Additionally, we were told that we rushed them and that is why the injury happened. For context, I dropped the dog off at 1215pm and asked if he could be done around 5pm as I had an appointment. At no point did I rush or pressure anyone and figured nearly 5 hours should be enough. I also was not alerted about the injury until I went to the salon to pick him up. My dog was then seen by the vet on Monday and had to have surgery. Please see pictures. I have the bill for $337. The vet actually gave me a discount because he felt so bad. I contacted the salon on Wednesday, asking for reimbursement for the vet bill, only to be hung up on by the manager. I am willing to consider removing this review IF I am reimbursed. I am not questioning the accident, however, it is the responsibility of the person who caused the accident to face the consequences once an accident does occur. Do the right thing. read more

It sadness me to do this but after the second cancellation and waiting nearly 4.5 to 5 months to get groomed, I thinks it's finally time to move on. I understand situations happens with staff but not even being provided a sooner date and scheduling out another two months is unacceptable. My dog's hair has gotten so long and it's summer time now. My one issue with Fur, and yes, even with 5 stars, I have one... is that they are super busy, and perhaps even, understaffed. The last part, being understaffed, I can't say with certainty, but all I know is that I have to wait AT LEAST 7-8 weeks between appts., and that's with me booking 7-8 weeks out when I'd rather only book 4-6 weeks out. I don't wait till the last minute to book either... but I do get stuck waiting. Here's the thing, though.... what earns them 5 stars is that they do an incredible job grooming our dogs. Just wonderful. So, for that, I wait the 7-8 weeks, so I can love the job they do and be super impressed with what staff they do have. They're busy for a reason..... they do a fantastic job, and word of mouth gets around. I get it. read more

This is a lengthy review of a horrible interaction i had with the owner or perhaps the lady that manages this place. I brought my 2 dogs in for a much needed groom. The dogs were heavily matted and in terrible condition, back story is that the dogs were living with some family prior to january, who went through a terrible financial crisis and could not afford to care for the dogs. Long story short, i moved back in January and took ownership of the dogs. Paid for full vet visits, grooming and medicine they needed. They live with me now. The issue arised from the interaction i had with the manager. From the moment i walked in she was incredibly rude. After the grooming was done, she came out to return the dogs and dropped a bag full of their hair in front of me and went on a rant on how i need to be taking better care of the dogs, that the last time they got groomed with them was in august, and that she will not be accepting them again. Firstly, i tried to get them groom in January, but they were booked MONTHS in advance, march 17th being the soonest. I wouldve taken them elsewhere, but this is were they were usually taken, mainly because from my understanding they can provide anesthesia for dogs if they are heavily matted, which mine were. Biggest mistake of my life, should've honestly looked elsewhere. Secondly, she berated me non stop about the care for the dogs, she couldve asked for an explanation and I would've happily explained. I already felt terrible for how the dogs had been treated prior to me having them, i didnt need some miserable old lady to give me a life lesson. Specially when that day was the day my girlfriend and i were finally bringing them home with us. I dont usually throw the race card around, because i think its annoying, but i literally felt that she was profiling me heavily. A young hispanic male walking in with some messed up dogs. Seriously lady get a grip. I paid 300 dollars including tip (which i hope goes to the staff which were really nice and not that miserable lady), so paying for the service shouldve sufficed? She got one thing right, im never bringing them back. Specially since the next groom is 6 weeks from now, and with them you have to wait 3-4 MONTHS. read more

Truly, the most talented and more importantly, compassionate groomers, I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Marie and Nicole took my big old husky, Whisky, and gave him a new chance to find his "Furever" home. You see, Whisky is a 7 year old rescue dog with "Paws For Life K9 Rescue" and he was in the parking lot for a mobile adoption event when Nicole and Marie decided to help him with his luck. They took a shaggy boy, in peak shedding season, and gave him a beautiful new look. I was able to take pictures and video record the entire process and what brought me to tears was the sheer compassion that they have for the dogs they groom. Please support this amazing team. All 3 kids were home at one time (a miracle with teenagers) and this was going to be the "big reveal" of Xmas-2018! On the way home she had an "accident", and her pretty blonde fur was smeared with poop!! Although it was closing time, I carried her into FUR and directly into the capable arms of "Marie"! She expertly took command of the situation, took gentle care of our 8 week old baby, and within no time had her buffed and fluffed with a new Xmas bow on!! Not only did Marie save our one Xmas surprise, she refused to charge me for it- "we do it for the animals- happy holidays" WHERE DO YOU FIND THIS KIND OF SERVICE, care and generosity anymore??? I dropped my dog off in perfectly good shape. They called me telling me my dogs paw was bleeding. Come to find out they musseled my dog! They told me the dog was trying to take the muzzle off he ripped off his duclaw. I highly doubt that was the truth. I think they cut it off. I have a problem just knowing they muzzled my puppy. I ended up with not only paying them, then the vet bill as his paw wouldn't stop bleeding! It was probably a terrible expetiance for my puppy! I would never return to this groomer. The attitude of the woman behind the counter was one of absolute no care for the customer. Cannot count how many times we have booked grooming for our pets and get to the location and we are not on the schedule at all. The service, when actually scheduled correctly and then done is great. Now, without notification, there is no cat grooming. Scheduled an appointment over a month ago for today to have (3) dogs groomed and a cat get a haircut and grooming. No appointment on the schedule. Well, now we get to find a new groomer and Fur loses a loyal customer. Even worse, just turning our pets away, basically "sorry, too bad". Rad customer service. The appointment booking issue has happened a couple times before, but this is the last straw. Please fix your scheduling so other customers do not have to go through this. Three stars for the cut and friendly staff. But my dog being here for 4 1/2 hours I really should give 1 star. Something is not structured well to keep our babies this long. I was told it could be 2-3 hrs but I dropped her off when they opened at 8am. They called me at the 4th hour saying they are running behind! Then the girl said wow your dog is really adhd. My dog is a active breed. They should know that being in the dog business and I expect them to be able to deal with dogs well. My conclusion would be they over book and let them sit around. I had never see my dog so upset and she slept the rest of the day when she got home. Sadly this is my first and only time to come here. I really wanted a local business to use. I got my Chihuahua/terrier mix's nails done here and it was an amazing experience. I had tried doing his nails on my own, but because they are black I couldn't see the veins and clipped too close. I was worried they might do the same, but they did his names in a matter of minutes and my puppy was having a good time as they constantly talked with him and gave him treats. I was talking with the woman running the front about how I got him recently at the shelter and when it came time for payment, she said not to worry and thanked me for rescuing. My puppy had been itching lately so I asked them for flea recommendations and they took the time to look him over and said he didn't have fleas which eased my mind. They didn't have to do this, but they did it anyway. Overall, my puppy had a good time, I had a good time, and everyone was friendly and professional. Well I won't bring up my past frustrations with this business because I continued to bring my dogs (different thang the two I speaking about) out of convenience after I was unsatisfied with their customer service. Today though warrants a complaint. As I'm pulling in for my appt I get an apologetic call saying they can't work on my dog. I asked why. They said because she tried biting them the whole time. Well she's never bit anyone. Sure she may have been scared but isn't that where some professionalism and experience come into play? Being a dog owner I would never subject someone to an aggressive dog, period. Seems like a liability. This dog has been to other groomers countless times no bad reviews from them. The majority at petsmart which I thought l, no disrespect, would have less experienced groomers employed.l compared with a highly reviewed/rated groomer. Hmmm... With that said, if she was in fact scared and acting as such on her last appt why wouldn't you make a point to mention, at pickup, the dog wouldn't be allowed back due to behavior? Instead they called me at the time of my appt to let me know. Let's just say it's a simple example of miscommunication. On top of all that, at the first appointment I brought both dogs in. They wouldn't see one because her vaccination records were apparently overdue. So I called my vet and my vet said that's not true you're up-to-date. So today when I was bringing both dogs excited to get the other one ground because she wasn't able to at the first appointment I get that call. At the end of the day, people have busy lives and communication is key. Especially when you run a customer service-based business which I do myself. My biggest critique and something you should think about is if you experience a dog that is ill tempered, exhibiting aggressive behavior, Or something of the like just let the dog owner know immediately. If I had heard that after my first appointment with the dog I would've immediately called a trainer because that is concerning. I'm not too sure where all these great reviews are coming maybe because they offer a bathe you're own dog service. Just food for thought. read more

I don't know why so many people have such negative reviews of this place! I've never washed my dog myself, in the past I've only hired mobile groomers to come to my home because I work so much. This time I tried out Fur grooming. They were booked for appointments until next week so I opted to try the self grooming stations. The woman I spoke to on the phone, Julie offered to help bye showing me what I needed to do. They helped me pick the best shampoo, the non-allergenic one. And she showed me what I needed to do. Plus he got his glands then and his nails clipped, I tipped the two people that helped me with that and only paid $15 for self grooming!!! Such a great deal, such great people. Really enjoyed this place. Perhaps next time I will offer to pay the $27 and make an appointment so someone else can do it. Lol. I'm so thankful my dog looks awesome oh, way to go Brady! read more
