Her "groomer" did not and nobody checked to see if she knew what she was doing! My pet has a double coat ie: many herding breeds, American Eskimo, due to breeding and some matting under the front legs in the arm pit area as usual. Instead of brushing them out or using scissors to cut it out after brushing as much as possible, they shaved her entire body with what looks like the lowest setting on the clippers, leaving approximately 1/8" of the undercoat. Her pink skin shows through. They also nicked a hind leg and nipple in the process. For folks with their so called experience they did not seem to know that you should NEVER closely shave a dual coated dog. Instead of apologizing - they tried to tell me they sent a text/email which I have no record of (including in trash) and said I approved the close shaving of her which I would never have done- knowing she is a dual coat dog everything from alopecia, skin conditions, patchy group back that remains patchy etc. The ramifications of her 1/8 inch shave is very scary once I read them. When I called to talk with them they accepted NO responsibility or admitted they did not know how to take care of dual coat breeds!! So this "SPA" really has no training on proper treatment of various dog coats or how to groom, and obviously have not read up on the various breeds they are grooming. My other shock is that as a state, county and city - there is NO mandatory dog grooming program that trains, tests and certify groomers before working on the wide variety of dog breeds. Perhaps we should!!!
