We tried a couple other local kennels before Sylvan, so we have comparison experience. No kennels come close to Sylvan. My dog doesn't have the best manners - but they see him for the big love that he is. They smile as big as he does when they see each other. They remember tiny details about his silly personality quirks. (Usually just seeing him once a year for a few days) They care for all of his needs and bring him so much joy. The first time they even texted details about his day to help us feel more comfortable leaving him at a new place. Every time he comes home from Sylvan, we can tell he misses all the friends he made at the kennel - human and other dog friends. Honestly, we would never consider taking him anywhere else at this point. Pro tip - the grooming and nail trimming service is worth every penny - and such a reasonable cost. read more

It was a horrible customer service. It was our 2nd appointment with our two dogs, and we were late for 18 minutes because we had to walk them outside in the groomer's big yard and it took them almost 3 minutes to open their door when we knocked. Interestingly, they did not take us in -- we were late. But, they haven't mentioned that if we are late more than 15 minutes, they can't do it. Descent businesses at least tell new clients that there's a 15 minute rule. And importantly, we would have made it, if only those two employees opened the door 3 minutes earlier No considerations and the WAY she talked to us was rude like "I don't know why you're walking them outside when you have an appointment?" The tone was super off. We would have come back since the first visit was great, our dogs looked great but this erased everything because of the bad customer service. So yes, you lose people because of the service. Always remember you are not the employer, you are the employees. Don't be the reason why your employer is losing clients. I drove over to the Pet Lodge to be able to understand the routine of such an establishment. I've never had to take my dog to a pet lodge. Due to family problems and the family being in Georgia I was concerned about what to do with my dog. I was relieved and happy that I went there. The dogs were all well cared for and happy. We always have a good experience here. The team clearly love dogs! My dog greets every worker with a big hug, so I know they bond with him. This isn't a fancy foofy pet resort, but a place where dogs can be dogs and get great care while you are away. They board cats, too. Dogs have their own run and do not directly play with other dogs, but they can see each other through the fence and bark and sniff each other. My wife and I have boarded our dog and our daughters 2 dogs at Sylvan many times over the past 4 years. We use it for day care and longer term when we are traveling. The dogs get great care from a very caring staff. Twice the staff has noticed health issues with our 13 year old Bassett and taken her to the vet to have her looked at and the problem corrected. The dogs enjoy being there and have no hesitation when we drop them off. We highly recommend the facility. This is the best facility we have used for any of our dogs. read more

First, I should state I did not allow my cats to stay there. What I viewed was a building that looked very run down, not like the pretty pic in the advertisement. They stated they had boarding for cats, but when I went to tour the place, the cats were in the same building as the dogs. There was no separate spaces, the cats were stuck in kennels directly on top of dog kennels. My cats would have had to listed to dogs barking 24/7, which was extremely loud, without windows or any kind of run to play in/walk in. Housing for cats was clearly an afterthought. read more

We've been taking our dogs here for years and we trust them to provide them with the best care. Recently we were called while on vacation to advise us that our dog was passing blood in his urine. We instructed them to take him to our vet at the Steamboat Island Clinic. He was X rayed and found to have a kidney stone that had now lodged in his bladder. Medicine was prescribed and the stone either passed or dissolved and he's doing great now. Success because they were attentive and caring. A happy ending. read more

Hands down the best place to take your dog for boarding. Its always scary leaving your loved one with someone else to take care of them but everyone at Sylvan is caring and understands dogs! Even with my dog who can be quite difficult at times. I have boarded her here 3 times over 3 years with nothing but great results. They even notified me that they found blood in my dogs urine and took her to the vet for me. Turns out she had an infected uterus and needed surgery. If it wasn't for their keen eye my dog most likely would have died from the infection. Thank you all for saving my girl and for taking such good care of her. I will always be grateful. read more

The lodge had great rates for all they provided for our dogs and the length of stay. Called to check on our pets halfway trough the trip and was told they were rewarded with extra outside time for being good! Came home smelling a bit stinky, but that is to be expected after staying in a kennel. Next time we are out of town and in need of a sitter, we are definitely coming back to sylvan lodge! read more

This is the first time that I have left my pet with a boarding facility, and needless to say, we were both a little nervous. On Monday I boarded my dog for the first time at Sylvan. After visiting a differnt boarding and daycare facility where I observed an employee kicking a dog in their daycare program I was really wary of leaving my dog with strangers. But after visiting Sylvan and meeting with some of the women who work there and taking a tour I felt this was NOTHING like the other place. I really like reading their "about us" section of thier website. Their rates are the best I have found for my largish dog $20/day. They will feed their food or yours at no additional cost. Walks for $6. They also have facilities for cats. When I toured, dropped him off and picked him up the place was pretty full (the individual areas where dogs are kept are visible) so I know a lot of other people are using the facilites also. The owner Nikki was very accomodating and gracious when I called to tell her I was running a little late. Although I do not want to encourage anyone to take advantage of her kindness. read more

This is the second time we have used them to hoard our two dogs. They do such an amazing job taking care of them. Their kennels are very clean and the clean them after each pet before the new one comes in. We are able to keep our two dogs together which is great since they have separation anxiety. We are able to bring in our own food and bedding as well as toys. They get exercise a couple times a day. Our dogs have been so pooped when we bring them home they crash for a few days because of all the excitement and fun they have. We will always use them anytime we have to board our dogs. We left our two dogs boarded at Sylvan Pet Lodge for six days while we went to visit family. One of our dogs is very energetic and tends to be either aloof or dominant toward other dogs, while the other is very social but had never been boarded before, so we were a little worried about how they would do. I had talked at length with Nicky, the business owner, about them when I made the reservation and her knowledge, experience and hands-on approach made me feel more comfortable. When we went to pick them up, we were very happy with how clean they were (we paid extra for bathing and grooming) and with how happy and relaxed they were. On top of that, their bedding had been laundered, which was totally in addition to what we paid for--or expected. I've boarded my old dog here twice now. He is old, blind, and has anxiety issues with new people and environments. He did great there and came home happy (instead of clearly anxious and stressed like some other places he's been to). I called regularly to check on him when I was gone and was always given an actual update instead of just a standard "he's having fun" answer that I've gotten at other places. I cannot give enough praise for the way all the staff at Sylvan Pet Lodge, (SPL) take care of Cody our dog. Cody is a rescue dog, for him it means the first part of his life he was physically and emotionally abused and under fed. So he has emotional and health issues. I just picked my dog up from a 9 day stay at Sylvan and found she was scared and her voice was hoarse. I had toured the boarding facility previously and thought it would be nice for my dog to be around other dogs for the week. Just to be fair, my dog is a small dog that loves to be held and cuddled with, not an outside dog, not an independant dog. In other facilities we have taken her to she was not forced to live alone and when they saw her depression they took it upon themselves to spend more one on one time with her until she was comfortable. I called Sylvan during her stay and they said she was adjusting fine, yet when I picked her up I noticed very little of her food missing and they told me she wasn't eating well. I consider the facility to be one step up from the pound, they have cell time and very little outside yard time, like a prison. I will not be using them in the future and I seriously think you should consider this! read more

I must leave my big dog regularly because of business. He is such a good doggy, and I do not want him to have anything but the best care. Sylvan is so good with him. They say it's best if you leave a voicemail message so they can return your call when it's convenient for them, but then they don't return your call. The best place to kennel your pet around! We've been taking our very large Great Pyrenees here for several years for as short a stay as overnight or up to two weeks, and we have no complaints. Nikki and everyone else who works at the lodge really care about the animals, and our dog looks forward to going there. This place is so low it does not deserve a rate except totally discussing. Our dog was there for two night and he came home looking g like he had been drugged. He has a fever and is very sick we have had him for three years and never had a problem with him, he smells like pesticide and disinfectants and he is very lethargic and will not eat dinner or treats. We saw other dogs there that were being boarded that looked sick and had very bad kennel cough. The place is very dirty and the food bowls were not clean plus he was so thirsty he drank two bowls of water as soon as we got him home. I left my Chihuahua and my Rat Trrier with Sylvan for three days based on recommendations from another pet kennel that was too full. Everything I read on their web site seemed great. I paid extra to have my dogs given snacks twice a day, and I provided a brand new ubopened pack of treats. My dogs won't eat when I am not home for some reason so I wanted to make sure they had something I knew they wouldn't resist. Drop off was fine, my dogs were scared because they had never been kenneled before, but I made sure to have their own bedding and toys. The negative aspect was when I returned to pick them up - the attendant was a young woman who seemed to know very little about my dogs situation, and bragged about how she forced them out into the open play area because they were afraid of her, but she said once they knew who was boss it was okay. When we were in the kennel building my Rat Terrier was so terrified she didn't even recognize me and was a snarling barking mess of fear. My Chihuahua was hiding behind her, and no matter what I said she wouldn't calm down and stop snarling. To make matters worse the young woman wouldn't move out of the way so I could position myself more in front to squat down so they could better see it was me. The gal opened the kennel door after several attempts to talk in a fake soothing tone didn't work, and she reached in to drag my dog out causing her to urinate all over her bedding. So I had to take a sopping wet dog bed and pillow home in my car. Once the dogs were out of the kennel they could see me there with the gal, and immediately calmed down and knocked me over with love and relief. I got them in the car and then the gal gave me the rest of their stuff and said they didn't eat while I was gone. And when I got home and went through the bag I saw that the bag of treats had not even been opened even though I was charged extra for the service of snacks. So my poor babies had nothing to eat for 3 days! I will never take them to Sylvan again, and I have lost faith in other kennels as well because of this experience. I only do private home sitting from the nurses who work at my vets where I know they get treated with love because they are happy to see her each time. read more

Sylvan is hands down the best kennel facility in the region. The kennels are well kept, the dogs have room to move, and the dogs' needs are taken care of. I have taken my large breed dogs there exclusively for several years and never had a single problem. One of my dogs is a high-drive working dog. Niki and the staff have always given my dogs the attention they need. The staff always remembers both the dogs' names, the owners' names, and preferences for the dogs' care. Recently, we had a family emergency that required me to leave town right away. It was right before a busy weekend and naturally, Sylvan was already booked full. I understood and began to look for a plan "B" for the dogs. Before the day was done, Niki called me and said that she was able to get the dogs in because she understood how important the situation was. I cannot speak more highly about the staff and would recommend them to watch over your pets every time. read more
