Furman is such a pretty campus!! I especially like the Bell Tower! The lake is pretty, too and the facilities such as the tennis court are in great shape! I visited with my ex, who got his undergrad here. His Furman degree must have been math because he went on to be a composite materials engineer. A little backstory from their website: "Founded in 1826, Furman University is the oldest private university in South Carolina and among the 75 oldest institutions of higher education in operation nationally today. The university is named for Richard Furman, among the most important Baptist clergyman during the early decades of the new nation and an influential advocate of educational institutions throughout the country." Amy Grant and Victoria Jackson are both notable alumni of Furman. If you are in the Greenville, SC area, do visit the Furman campus! It's lovely! read more

A very nice campus with friendly people. Furman has a place in my heart. My older brother attended Furman University from 1977 to 1981. He coached for a year on the football team. Furman has a beautiful campus and it's a nice place to walk around or just relax and watch the geese. read more

If I could give this 100 stars, I would. Not a student, but played sand volleyball ball there one time. Late July Sunday afternoon volleyball with the family, 91° The water pressure, and coolness of the water attached to Blackwell hall literally saved our souls. That was the best water pressure in the upstate. Clean, crisp water. Please never renovate Blackwell Hall, or adjust the water pressure. Do everyone a service and keep it well maintained. Absolutely beautiful campus! I can't speak to the universities teaching tactics, however, if you are visiting the area, it is worth walking the swamp rabbit trail to Furman University or simply parking there and exploring the grounds. Well kept grass, trees, flowers, gardens, fountains, and all the buildings. And never over-busy with other people. Plan to spend about 45 minutes exploring. read more

Nice campus. A great place to jog and stroll around the lake. Is it a great University? I have no idea. I attended U of AZ. The students appear to be quite smart. I hear it's a good school from US and World magazine. I root for them everytime they play Clem'p'son. read more

The campus at Furman located just outside of downtown Greenville is a gem. You can get here via the Swamp Rabbit trail from downtown, a quick five mile ride. Take time to ride around the lake and take in the views. There are restrooms and water fountains available to take a quick break on your ride to glory. Feel free to head into the campus cafe for a bite to eat as well. Keep your eye on the concert calendar and race event schedule. read more

JUST SOME FACTS about Furman I looked up. Founded in 1826, Furman is the oldest private university in South Carolina. The school is named for Richard Furman, a clergyman considered the most important Baptist leader before the Civil War. Furman was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Charleston, S.C., and became the first president of the Triennial Convention, the first national body of Baptists in America. The South Carolina Baptist Convention established Furman's original campus in Edgefield, S.C., but over the next three decades, the campus changed locations three times before arriving in downtown Greenville, S.C. in 1851. Originally founded as a men's academy and theological institute, the theological school broke away from Furman in 1858 to become the Southern Baptist Seminary. In 1924, Furman was named one of four collegiate beneficiaries of the Duke Endowment. The Duke Endowment grants sustained Furman through the Great Depression, helped the university coordinate with Greenville Woman's College in the 1930s, and bolstered the university's effort to pursue a new campus location. Furman broke ground on its current location north of its home city in 1953. The school would also become independent in 1992, breaking ties with the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
