We have spent nearly, if not more than, $100,000 there. For most of our time there, we had a great experience. Until this year. Not sure what changed besides the constant rotating of teachers and maybe being understaffed? We had all three of our girls there. Our oldest was shamed into wear pants with dresses and now has body image issues at the ripe age of 5 due to constantly being told she needs to wear pants with her dresses. She won't wear a dress now without pants. However, Mrs. Wagner is a godsend and frankly too good for Solverus. The real issues began about a year when our middle child. There had been multiple times where we could hear Judy yelling at her and the other kids. She's also told me multiple times that we need to "take our kid home and whip her". Judy is also a family member of the admin so there's some nepotism and lack of accountability there. Anyway, our middle child doesn't fit the mold. She pushes buttons and can be a firecracker at times. Apparently that was too much for Solverus. We had multiple conferences with the admin and did everything they asked of us. At one of our last meetings, it started with the admin saying "I don't know what goes in the classroom" even though they have cameras set up. However, when we asked them to do things like take recess away as a punishment, that never happened. Instead at any little inconvenience they called us to come pick her up. They suspended her on a Friday because she wouldn't line up for recess and then they sent her to the office. Instead of communicating with her and trying to calm her down, they just called us instead. It was on that Friday that I was told Kathy, the director, wanted to speak with me on Monday. Monday came and they told us they were no longer allowing her at Solverus. Not only that, but they kicked our 1.5 year old out as well when I told them I was recording the call. No grace period. No time to find another place. We are a 2-parent working home and now we have nowhere to put our girls. There's a good bit of amazing teachers there including Mrs. Wagner, Ms. Tesla, Ms. Alana, and others but the admin and management are inadequate to say the least. I would highly recommend you look around and explore your options before considering this establishment.

Two of my children went all the way through and finished the Middle School Program and they left Five Oaks more than prepared for high school! FOA students are smart, well rounded, compassionate, confident and independent. FOA is truly a gem in the Upstate. The staff are some of the most wonderful people you will ever meet, and they work hard to make Five Oaks amazing. Sure, there were a few hiccups along the way, because schools and people aren't perfect. But, overall, I don't think we I could have found a better school for our kids.

I don't care what political spectrum you are, or your beliefs, we should all agree that an adult in power should protect the students from not just outside threats but to real, life ruining, trauma inducing, bullying that happens inside the school and Susan Brown failed. She failed as an admin, she failed as an adult in school, she failed as a protector, and she failed at being a kind person. Looking on greatschools you will find multiple other reports that bullying is a major problem at this school and the teachers turn a blind eye to bullying both physical bullying and verbal bullying because it's up to the admins to administer punishment, and you know what person shouldn't be at the head of this? I'll tell you, an admin who doesn't care about the bullying. I would also like to bring to light that i believe she didn't care about my boyfriend being called the f slur because of her political belief.

Who is my child's afternoon teacher? Are they CPR certified?…read more When will the parking lot be finished? Why are employees allowed to watch YouTube while caring for a room of infants? Why are there fruit snacks (brightly colored jelly snacks, not puffs) on the floor in the infant room? Do these sound like threats to you? They sound threatening to the director, Amanda. If you are a concerned parent who cares about the well-being of your child and you ask questions, you will NOT be welcome here. In fact, it will probably be suggested that you meet with the pastor, who will determine the future care of your child. You might be forced out, like I was today. I never raised my voice or cursed at these ladies. I wasn't rude. More often than not, I was the first to initiate conversation in my child's room. Seems backwards doesn't it? Amanda will not assume ANY responsibility for the faults in this facility. In fact, everything is the parent's fault and NOT Abundant Life CDC's. Amanda cannot handle simple questions that would more than likely also be asked by DHEC. Amanda becomes defensive when concerns are raised. In my opinion, Amanda improperly manages this childcare facility and values the feelings of her staff more than the safety of children in the building. And yes, today when I was walked out, like I was going to act crazy (never have) I did cuss when Amanda SLAMMED the door behind me. Just calling it, like I see it, Amanda.
