I'm leaving this review, because I just found out from my friend Chris, at California Sofa in Marin....that my last couple of sofas were made by Brian at Furniture Envy! Long story, but Chris closed his Marin store and had Brian build the last several sofas. All I can say is that the craftsmanship is ridiculously good. For LESS than the price that I would pay, for a 10 foot long, elegant contemporary sofa from Restoration Hardware, Brian exactly matched the design, but gave me the custom dimensions I needed. Oh, one more thing. If I would've ordered it from Restoration Hardware, I would've gotten a sofa that was "Made in China". Furniture Envy is made right here in the Bay Area. I don't know how they do it and make any money with their more than affordable prices and exceptional quality. This review is overdue! We had the best experience with Brian! We were shopping for couches and, after visiting every store imaginable and not finding the quality we wanted, we decided to try Furniture Envy. We were surprised to find that we could create a custom couch exactly as we wanted for the same price as a high end readymade one. Brian was so patient in helping us figure out all the specifics of leg height, arm rest width, frame material etc, and when certain options were more expensive than anticipated, he offered less expensive solutions as well. He is an expert in his field, and gently steered us away from some bad choices (for instance we raised the seat heights to accommodate my 6'2" husband, but we did not make them as tall as we thought we needed, as it would have been disproportionate to the rest of the couch). Brian also helped us create the couches as kitty proof as possible, choosing a tough outdoor fabric that was surprisingly well suited to our mid century aesthetic, and adding additional coverage to the arms to act as second scratch barriers. Regarding delivery, the couches were ready in afew months, far quicker than any other custom shop we contacted. The couches are wonderful. We love them, and so do our cats. Almost 12 years later and still using and loving my custom couch. Easy to clean, hasn't sagged though the area I use frequently looks ever so slightly more worn compared to the other part. If I could do it again I would pick firm - there is no sagging though after all these years! Worth the premium price for the longevity and frequent use of the piece. I bought twice at furniture envy/cozy couch. The first time at cozy couch went relatively smoothly. This most recent time at furniture envy has been a disaster. I understand that covid has disrupted their supply chain but I don't think that totally excuses what horrendous service they have provided. In the beginning of December I asked how long it would take explaining I needed something before Xmas and was that possible. Yes certain options were so ordered things that would work for that timeline. Xmas approaches and no one reaches out - so I have to. I have to chase them down- have to call multiple times . It won't be ready but they can give me a loaner couch. In mid January I email several times and get no response - I have to call a few times. It is not ready, they can't give me any timeline at all. The guy, Zach, then quotes me how long times at other places ... I am like "I chose you because what you told me your time line." I point out that it is frustrating that I have to chase them - that they didn't respond to my emails. Their response is "we are busy so don't email- call instead" which is pretty ridiculous sense their voicemail message says to email. He then says - you can call in a few weeks but we won't know anything - it is either ready or it is not ready. (!!?!) I have called and left several voice mails and have received no response. So I think if you are looking to buy furniture where you have to chase the merchant at every single step - and not get the item you paid for, I give them five stars. If you don't think you should have to chase them and should get some information and your item, the score is much lower. read more

We had a great experience with Matt at Furniture Envy. From the first time we walked in to look around and comparison shop, to the time we went back in to actually customize everything, and receiving the finished product everything went smoothly. In fact, we were shocked that it was delivered so quickly after we customized because Matt was upfront about the fact that we had chosen a fabric that sometimes takes longer to come in after placing the order. It came just in time for our new baby so Matt and team really impressed! We also dug that we were able to do a lot of the back and forth on customization via the phone/email once we worked out the bigger things in person. Matt emailed us the design with all the measurements and we were able to make adjustments. We loved the level of customizability of everything. We live in what used to be an attic with a lot of weird angles and quirks that makes it hard to find furniture to fit the space. Years ago we settled on a couch we found too small to our liking because it's all we could find. Everything else was too long. Being able to customize length was key. We knew we wanted a chaise (sectional) and being able to design that so it was long enough for our legs while not long enough to block a heater vent along the way was rad. Then getting to choose the color of the fabric, wood, leg style, back height and seat height, arm width and firmness was the icing on the cake. Thanks, Matt! read more

My husband and I love Matt and Zach at Furniture Envy (and Cozy Couch). We own two very different couches from Furniture Envy. At the beginning of this year (2018) we were looking to get a new couch for the tv/guest room. We had something fairly specific in mind and were having a hard time finding what we wanted. We decided we wanted to go with something custom because we wanted a sleeper sofa but we also wanted a really comfortable couch that we could relax on with the dogs. We ended up at Cozy Couch and Zach was amazing! He walked us through all our options and helped us figure out what we wanted. We did end up having to go to Furniture Envy because we wanted more customization. (One store does smaller customization, the other is more whatever you want!) We love the sofa sleeper couch. The fabric is easy to clean, it's comfortable, it looks great, it feels great, and our guests have told us it's very comfy to sleep on. Woohoo! Because we liked the couch so much we decided it was time to upgrade the couch in the living room. I'm so glad we did, the couch is beautiful, and comfortable, and we customized the length. When you order something customized be prepared to wait. Good things come to those who wait. It does take quite a while but I honestly don't care because the furniture is wonderful, and Matt and Zach are so great. I will say that communication after ordering is not the best (it can be difficult to wrangle a response from Matt), but you will get what you ordered. TL;DR We strongly recommend against buying anything from Furniture Envy. We bought a ~$4000 couch and ottoman - they were 6 months late getting the ottoman to us. The couch has been strangely firm, and 4 years into ownership we've discovered they installed the wrong cushion type. It has now been 2 months since we paid for new cushions and they are 1.5 months late with no arrival in sight. We attempted to reach them dozens of times by phone and email to no avail in both these scenarios (2015, 2019), last week we received a one sentence email, but again, we are unable to get a response. Details: We have had an awful experience with Furniture Envy spanning 4 years. We bought a ~$4000 custom couch from them when we moved here from Boston. It included an ottoman. At delivery, the ottoman was not level and they needed to take it back to have the feet sanded. They did not get the ottoman back to us for 6 months (and many phone calls and emails from us asking where it is). The couch has been overly firm/not very comfortable since we got it. We ordered regular/medium firmness, and were told that it would get more comfortable with time. After 3 years we decided to try changing the cushions to soft. We called and sent emails with no response for several months at a time, multiple times. In March 2019, they responded, but we weren't able to get enough information to move forward. On Oct 5, 2019, we drove to SF to have the conversation in person. There, we found out that their records indicate that they installed the wrong (most firm) cushions in the couch despite the order being for medium/regular (they did admit this). They agreed to change to what we ordered for free (oh wow!), but to get soft we would have to pay $300. Frankly, the change should be free regardless after all this trouble, but we didn't have the energy to do anything beyond solve the problem at hand: get a couch we actually want to sit on. We paid for soft cushions which we were told would ship to us in 2 weeks. It has now been 1.5 months since our cushions were supposed to arrive and they have not shipped. After multiple phone calls and emails we received a response that the cushions would ship last week and they have not. The store has stopped responding again. The last email my husband sent was "Hello?". read more

We shipped some of our furniture to San Francisco, you know things like living room furniture from rooms that sit unused in smaller cities where the houses are bigger. But we needed a bed and head board. Sure there is IKEA but I wanted something that was stylish and cheap in price but not cheap in quality. I found it at Furniture Envy. We've ordered two couches from Furniture Envy. We've had the first one for six years. With the exception of buttons popping off the tufted cushions, even after repairs by FE, the couch has overall been great. Impervious to stains, children, dogs, super comfy, everything you'd want in a couch. The second couch? Not so much. When I went in I specified that I had the aforementioned dogs, kids etc and asked about stain treating on fabric. I really wanted a lighter color, but was more than open to something darker (say, olive green). I was reassured multiple times by Snow that this couch would be just as stain-resistant as our first one. Wrong. We're about a year in (after several weeks of delayed delivery times due to backups at the factory) and I literally could not hate a piece of furniture more. Despite washing per the instructions, this thing constantly looks dirty. The cushions themselves (which I see a lot because I'm constantly removing the covers to wash them in my "free time," so fun!) are basically hunks of foam covered in what appears to be quilt batting. That's gradually flaking away when I take off/put on the covers. So disappointed that we spent over $2500 on this couch that I basically can't wait to get rid of. If they could go back to the quality they had several years ago, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, but currently it's a no from me. read more

I went to Furniture Envy with a special request - to see if they could create a double-sided sofa for my large living room. I met Snow, who said that they'd never done it before, but was confident it could be pulled off. I mulled about it for awhile, then decided to meet with him to discuss the specifics. He was extremely thorough, going over the design, construction, and ergonomics of the sofa, all things I hadn't thought of. He made recommendations and gave his honest opinion, and was never pushy. He also visited our house to take measurements and make sure that we could get the large piece through the door. He assured me that he would work closely with the manufacturer on getting this sofa and daybed exactly right. When I left my deposit with him, I was confident the project was in good hands. About two months later, our sofa and matching daybed are complete. Amazing doesn't even begin to describe it. The double-sided sofa bisects my living room into two seating areas and is a focal point of the room. it's stylish and comfortable, and exceeded our expectations. I'm also really glad I went with Snow's recommendations. I.e. the little details like the piping and single bench cushion really give the piece style. And the price was very reasonable. Some have guessed the sofa costs more than twice what we paid for it. Its been several days since our furniture was delivered and I'm still swooning over it. Conveniently located in the marina, we walked in one Sunday afternoon planning to browse styles and options. We intended on purchasing a sleeper sofa from Crate & Barrel, but when we went to Furniture Envy our plans changed. We walked out with an order for a custom sleeper sofa & love seat, a gorgeous TV stand, coffee table and two side tables for less than the price of a sofa and love seat at one of the big brand furniture stores. They have all the styles you see at places like Pottery Barn and C&B, but better quality, more personalized service, and lower prices. The entire staff at Furniture Envy is knowledgeable and low pressure. The only reason we walked out having ordered everything at one time was because we felt that confident. We're the type of couple that we know what we like and we know "it" when we see "it." They delivered everything on our move-in date and removed all boxes and plastic for us. UPDATE: We just recieved our custom sectional and I am seriously over the moon with how it turned out! Gorgeous is an understatement. I did not know I could be this in love with a piece of furniture. :) The quality of our sofa is amazing!! Every inch of piping was sewn perfectly; every single seat button was stitched in, then glued down to prevent catching on pant pockets. There are even elastic/metal hooks under the cushions to hold them in place. The seat is firm and the fabric is thick and taut. I doubt this sofa is going to stretch out much at all (I ordered super firm cushions). Every little thing was considered of and not a single detail was spared. The quality is MUCH higher than Room & Board/Crate & Barrel and sooo much better the EQ3 loveseat we bought three years ago. Yet we paid less than West Elm prices. I'm so, so impressed. I posted a few pictures in of the finished product in the gallery for interested Yelpers. :) We waited two years for the perfect sofa, so Brian, THANK YOU for delivering perfection! This is a story of how Snow (& Furniture Envy) saved us from incredible heartbreak and misery. We ordered a couch we loved. After waiting 6 weeks, the couch did not fit into our apartment (I'll admit it, I cried). A very helpful coworker recommended Furniture Envy and we went in the next morning. I showed Snow a picture of the couch we had loved but wouldn't ever be ours. He said, "easy." Snow took us through the process of personalizing our couch, from the foam to the fabric to the wood finish. Since we had a good idea of what we were looking for, it was a quick process. I could have been in there all day contemplating colors and styles so I was glad to have direction from Snow. Careful measurements were taken. We were surprised to find that our custom sofa was less expensive than the stock model we previously ordered. I love an element of customization. We had a budget. Bought a couch. They delivered it the next day. The whole process took about 10 minutes of my time total, and now I have somewhere to sit. Incidentally, I'd bought the same couch the week before from a different store, for more money, but they called me the next day and said that, despite having checked the stock when I placed the order, the couch was mysteriously back-ordered. I ended up with a poor final product. I originally purchased a floor model which was very uncomfortable and caused back pain for me and my guests. They were nice about it and said I could return it and pay $300, or pay $600 and they would build an amazing couch that was just what I wanted. I like some of the people that work there, supporting small business, and the idea of having a great couch without starting over somewhere else. Well, unfortunately months later it is realized I made a mistake investing more. They have left me with an embarrassing and uncomfortable couch. Also, it cost me $2600 total and the product is nowhere close to being worth that amount. I waited a month to let it settle and break in - and it's just as bad. This place is awesome. These guys really know their product! Custom sofas for reasonable prices. You can customize everything from fabric to the height of the back of the sofa. We bought a customized sectional from them in September and it just arrived, exactly when they said it would and exactly as ordered. They even provided a free loaner sofa during the wait! Note, they will not call you until they get the sofa from the factory. If you want an update, call or email them. Once they get it, they can get it out to you in a day or two and seem quite flexible with time windows. In the day that they were set to deliver to us, they missed the delivery window by about 90 mins. They explained that 3 of the deliveries required dismantling of the furniture in order to fit through their respective doorways. The problem was further exacerbated by a missing delivery coordinator, so we were communicating directly with the in store staff who also had a Saturday full of customers. But in reality, we had the time and it was no big deal for us. Overall this was an awesome experience and we're happy with the outcome. We just received are couches and are ecstatic. Our living room looks amazing with the orange sectional and blue sofa (see pic). We went in and the folks were very helpful, Gabe helped us primarily. They talked about quality of cushions, what they could change and were upfront and reasonable about cost. We weren't sure of cloth color so we took their swatch book home for a day. We ordered a matching sectional and sofa. It arrived in 4 weeks. It's nicely built, perfect lines, nice stitching. It's very comfortable. We jumped around for a few hours and smile every time we walk by our living room, and jumped around again the next day. We looked at many competing stores. We initially wanted to be only a tad bit over 2K for the sectional and lesser for the sofa (love-seat): - We looked at CB2 - we went their again to get our coffee table and are shocked at how sloppy those look compared to ours. They're a few hundred dollars cheaper. - We looked at designer Ligne Roset pieces and like TOGO and Confluences. They're significantly more expensive, take 4-6 months to get and while they're amazingly designed, ours are more useful (armrests anyone?) - We looked at some other places (Crate and Barrel, Macy's) and these are mostly for one's grandparents. - We looked at Room & Board, we liked some stuff but the 2.5K stuff looked cheap and the stuff got better and 3.5K+, but still OK. Since we were not enthusiastic about any couch we could find, we picked a design from FurnitureEnvy and made some modifications: - We decided on width and depth and made it a tad bit narrower. - We got thinner arms (our apartment is small) - We got chaise with rectangular cushion so it could be flipped. - For a more modern look, we got chrome legs toward the end and higher arms which merge with back and firm cushions. Finally since our budget was still not blown through, we went with the more expensive cloth - D'oro in orange and light blue colors and that made all the difference in the end. We ordered our sectional 7-8 weeks from the date we really needed it, and they thought it wouldn't be a problem. With the holiday rush though, the factory got behind. Bring Gabe to the rescue with a delivery of a loaner sectional! Brand new, no extra fees for it, just a desire to ensure we had seating for our holiday party. A week later, ours arrived and the delivery guys exchanged it all seamlessly!!! The sectional itself is exactly as expected, and very comfortable! But... three years later after removing the cushion covers I found cheap flimsy stuffing materials. My cushions ate mis-shapen and saggy:( I planned to add a matching chair... won't be doing that) Update, called and spoke to "Matt" the manager. What an ass. You should know that if you ever lose the covers for your cushions you are screwed. They will not send you replacement covers unless you fully send back your cushions. It is " too much of a liability"... ya they have the specs but won't do it. (?) The "manager" was aggressive and frankly kind of a d*ck. Talked over me and interrupted. What a waste of money. I purchased a custom $3,000 sofa from this store. It arrived as promised. I asked about scotch guard protection and was told stains could easily be removed using cold water and a white rag. This was not the case. After trying to clean up a stain, as instructed, it left a water mark so I contacted the store. Snow answered and apologized for the misinformation. He said he would test using a non water based cleaner. That was 30 days ago. I called and emailed several times to follow up and was given empty promises. He said a cleaner would be sent to me and/or our fabric panels would be replaced. Neither has happened. To me it's been a lot of showy salesman crap! read more

Please ask yourself 1 question before you buy a couch from these guys: Are you ok dropping $2,000 for a couch that will remain the color that you chose for 15 months, when you take care to close the blinds every day and travel 40-50% of the time with the blinds religiously closed while gone? If so- enjoy your 15 month couch. Before you make the decision to buy a couch from these guys ask them how long it will be before, in mild sunlight (10% of the time the curtains were open during the day in San Francisco - certainly not a city one would say is sunny all day). I was told by Gabe that "unfortunately these couches fade - we change the one out in the front window all the time" huh? Interesting that they were VERY QUICK to note its not included in the warranty. (Makes one think they are often asked this question - I never even asked if it was covered under the warranty). So If they say anything over 15 months then send me a note, I'll be happy to send you the date of purchase receipt and picture of my sweet psychedelic mood couch. Oh and they'll say "all fabrics are the same, it happens to all of them." Turns out that is not true- better grade fabrics are more resistant to UV degradation - which was a topic they never addressed. I would consider 15 months a short time to have a couch until friends are saying "wow, you stepped out and went eggplant" So at least ask the cost to reupholster at 15 months and figure that in the equation. This is a store that is great to buy rugs, lamps and accessories. But there upholstery quality is low rate and their furniture construction quality reminds me of some pieces I brought home from wood shop in high school. I was dumb enough to also buy a bed and the slats are cut 3/4 of am inch short so they fall through ( I jam newspaper on each end of every slat to keep them from falling through. I'm not joking- I'll send pictures. I did find it interesting that all the positive reviews came at time of purchase. Again, shoot me an email and I'll send you pictures Never again will I think of shopping here again. What capped it was they did a nice shine job at the end by implying they weren't involved in the decision process since I was working with Heidi Maier as my decorator. Ouch - talk about throw under the bus. Had to add this this highly PROFESSIONAL REPLY from Furniture envy. I won't go thru the math with you but I have delivery receipts to show. More importantly. This is the type of customer service replies you can expect to see ( oh and my couch has never been positioned anywhere near a window(again I can send a pic). Furniture envy reply: You have the unfortunate problem of being "often wrong, never in doubt". You assume so much, yet clearly know little of what you speak. You keep spewing out assumptions about fabrics, and the fabric industry, and yadayadayada that are, granted, actually reasonable guesses in many cases, yet completely untrue in almost all. You refuse to listen to, or accept any actual facts. I also find it ironic how you are such an expert on everything now, yet were so helpless and naive about everything 22 1/2 months ago when all of us bad people took advantage of you? 15 months? Let's replay this a bit. First it was "22 1/2" months you've owned it, blinds closed 80% of the time". Then it was 22 1/2 months, blinds closed 90% of the time". Now it has evolved to "15 months, blinds closed 80% of the time, and gone 45-50% of the time". Your evolution of facts to support your ever growing dramatic persecution sort of puts all of your claims into question. All that matters is that you are a "victim". We are so sorry for being so mean to you. Not really actually. The funny part is that you have never taken one iota of responsibility for having YOUR sofa in YOUR window. I am really glad I decided to wait a few months to write this review because last week I spilled a really full glass of wine, and by really full I mean a double because, yes, sometimes people do drink doubles...of wine, right?? Anyway, aside from the wine that got on my pants (which didn't fully come out) and the bit that got on the rug (which did, thanks Wine Away!) the majority landed on the couch. The pale blue couch we just had custom made for a very reasonable price via a really pleasant salesperson from Furniture Envy. This while my boyfriend was out getting his double red wine drinking girlfriend a cheeseburger at midnight. Yeah. Well, I grabbed a towel and started dabbing. I dabbed twice. TWICE!! It was gone, absorbed, clean, like new, he never would have known except for the (now) red pants wearing hot mess dabbing and spraying the floor while drinking a new glass of wine when he walked in. Clearly Furniture Envy rocks a lot harder than I do. Also, if the couch were not super-amazingly indestructible it would have taken only two weeks to get a new one. Two weeks for a custom couch. So I had an epiphany a few months ago. I realized I was in my 30s. And not a student anymore. It was all the more shocking given that it took me until 32 to notice. Looking around my apartment in a stupefied daze... at the model airplanes hanging from the ceiling, the shoddy home-made furniture, the lego ornaments on the mantle, the fake rose given to me by my first gay fan (an SF rite of passage), my eyes eventually came to rest on my hideous $50 sofa, which, if it could talk, I would have to kill... immediately. "Jimmy", I said to myself.... "Grow up! You're never going to trap a suitable female with this as your bait" I went on the rampage. I was ruthless. I chucked it all, pulled down the posters, repainted the coffee table, hacked the front off my AV unit and put shiny doors and shiny knobs on it. I got rid of the box of random shite by the door, the wireless router oh-so-cleverly hidden in a shoe box... the dog tags hanging from the light fitting... everything. When the dust had settled, been dust-busted up and disposed-of, it was just me and the sofa. Locked eye to suspicious stain, across the living room. "Ugly 80s sofa that I bought off an ex girlfriend for $50..." I growled... "Your time has come." I did a lot of research into its replacement. For I would need a mighty, yet debonair sofa, for what I had planned. I scoured the internet and padded the lonely city streets. I went to Room and Board, Z Gallery, IKEA, it was an odyssey involving all manner of merchants of the movable. Then one day I strolled into Furniture Envy on Lombard. Cue angelic chorus. Brian and Shirley are a young couple who have recently started out in the furniture trade, and I expect they'll do well. They were extremely helpful, extremely pleasant, and reassuringly straight-up. They don't have a lot of stock compared to some of the mega-stores, but they bent over backwards to keep me happy. They even bought a chair from the set in which I was most interested, for the store, so that I could see it before I dropped the cash! Brian delivered my brand new leather sectional on Saturday, having returned the previous night from overseas. He even gave me and my buddy a ride to the pub afterwards. Now that's service! My transformation into my 30s is complete, albeit a tad late. The new sofa is the piece de resistance of my now well-appointed and appropriately mature abode. Im not going to tell you the story of the nightmare couch buying experience I had from another store....thats for another review. I am going to tell you about how Furniture Envy made SURE that experience wasn't replicated. Long story short, after getting married in August, my husband and I got excited and went in search of a custom couch. 5 months later, and we still dont have it (from the first place). We walk into Furniture Envy, licking our wounds, and hoping that they could turn our couch nightmare into a dream. (note, a large part of our nightmare was lack of communication from the other store) They did. With the help of Gabe, pro-salesman, we put together our dream couch, fabric and all. The next day we get a call telling us that our fabric was out of stock. Wait..calling me the NEXT day? This was something I was unfamiliar with, so I listened. Gabe had the day off on Tuesday, lived in our neighborhood...and offered to bring us swatches to look at...on his DAY OFF...two days after placing our order!! We pick our swatch while enjoying our beer, and waited. When I say waited, I dont mean the 5 months that we had already been waiting with the OTHER shop...Furniture Envy had our couch delivered to our apartment 2 weeks later...and that's during the holiday season!! Merry Christmas to us. We love the couch. We couldn't be happier with the service. And we are wondering why we didn't start here in the first place. We will definitely be back. read more

We found ourselves in a precarious situation. Three months till our first baby was due and we were in the middle of a move. We couldn't take the old sofa with us, so we needed something new ASAP. We knew we wanted a sectional. In fact, we knew exactly what we wanted. and yes, we were very picky. We also knew we couldn't wait 6 weeks to have one made for us, as sitting on the floor @ 7 months pregnant just wouldn't work. We found our dream sofa @ Room & Board. They didn't have it in stock in a reasonably stain-resistant fabric. 6-8 weeks to make and $3,000. Wowsers. We couldn't find anything else that measured up. We were desparate. We even drove to Concord to look at furniture stores (we hardly EVER leave SF). The day before our move we stumbled across Furniture Envy. I walked in and Skip greeted me with a big friendly smile. I wax exasperated and plunked myself down on a sofa. He asked what I was looking for. I told him that I'm not really comfortable buying a custom sofa that I haven't been able to sit on & test out, but I knew what I liked. I showed him a photo of the sofa I loved. He said "oh yes, we can make that. In fact, we've made one just like it already". I perked up immediately. Not only could they make the sofa, but we could pick the fabric, the cushion density, add a few inches to the chaise, make it a little taller, and have all of this in two weeks delivered to the house for more than $1k less than Room & Board. Seriously??? Seems too good to be true. But the Yelp reivews told me I could trust him. We wrote up the order. One week and six days later we got the call that the sofa had arrived. It looked a little odd. We measured it and it turns out that the measurements were off. I called Furniture Envy immediately. We figured out where the miscommunication had been. I was pretty upset, but they assured me that it would be taken care of. We paid for the sofa, and kept the current sofa while they made us a new one. A week and a half later, the new one arrived and they took away the first one. PERFECT!! Exactly what we wanted. We are SO in love with our sofa. You might wonder why I'm giving five stars when there was trouble with our order. I would recommend Furniture Envy without hesitation because of their stellar products (very well made!), super fast turnaround time, and their amazing customer service. They didn't hesitate when offering up a quick solution. They were professional, friendly, and got the job done. Every transaction has the risk of a glitch.. it's how you resolve it that's important to me. And the fact that we got to keep the original sofa while waiting for the new one was key. No matter what type of chair or sofa or ottoman you want.. they can make it. Don't buy any furniture without checking with them first! read more

After endless weekends trolling standard SOMA hit list of Room & Board, HD Buttercup, Mitchell Gold, etc... we discovered Furniture Envy from a WSJ article on custom-made sofas. Finally, the exact sofa we were looking for, in a size that would fit in a 100 year old Edwardian. But because of a miscommunication what was delivered (in only 2 weeks) was missing the piping we wanted. Not only did FE quickly research the order and admit their mistake, but they immediately began building a new one for us. It just arrived this morning and is perfect. Well made, well proportioned, and very comfortable. Even with the rework, it came in much sooner than R&B would take, and cost less. That's quality and customer service you don't find easily. read more

I ordered two couches and a chair 7 weeks ago. I was told it would take 4-6 weeks. I was a repeat customer. I got a salesman that has given the most horrendous service I have ever received. His name is Zack. I started checking on my order at one month. Zack advised me that he could not check with the factory as it would be finished when it was finished. I called at 6 weeks and Zack advised that it would be finished when it was finished; that he could not call the factory. He also advised that the factory was owned by furniture Envy. He said he had no idea when the order would be filled. I called him back at 7 weeks and got the same runaround. I asked to speak to the owner or manager. He said he could try to get him by phone but that he did not speak to customers. I asked why and he said that the manager was too busy. This is a $7,000 plus order and all I do is get the runaround. I am calling my credit card company to get this order canceled. You should not deal with a company that gives this kind of service and where the manager will not speak with you. Around and around and around we go. These guys are ok. And they have a decent selection at pretty good prices. But dont try to order anything from them. After more than a week of excuses and me tracking them down every day (you would think I was the one selling something) I gave up and bought the chairs somewhere else. read more

It took us a while to find this place. We had looked everywhere, big and small furniture stores, and online as well. We were having a hard time finding something that was a good price and also meets our standards. We came across Furniture Envy on Yelp and based on the reviews, we made a trip to SF. The shop was not big but it was full of modern looking furnitures (sofas mostly). We took our time and sat on almost all of them, right away, we could tell they were good quality sofas, good support and nice feel. The foams used for those sofas were very thick, much better than the ones we felt at CB2 and EQ3 (hurt my butt). The owner Brian was friendly and patient. He explained how the sofas were produced and once he told us that those are fully customizable (we could change the depth, colors and length), we were sold! Our couch arrived ONE week after the order was placed, seriously, it only took one week! The the other places told us we would have to wait 2 months for our sofa if we customize. It looked beautiful and solid! Wish we could have found Furniture Envy sooner. My only complain is that I wish they had free delivery all through out the bay area (they only do it if you live in the city), just because nowadays, it is pretty commonly offered by many furniture stores. I feel that could have made this even sweeter deal for us. I guess maybe they are still expending and they don't have too many people handling those deliveries. Hopefully in the future, they could offer free delivery. Great little place! We love our new couch! read more

I recently moved to the city, and wanted furniture that was an upgrade from IKEA, but still reasonably priced. Furniture Envy definitely delivered! I'm someone who has major issues making decisions, and Vincent really helped me narrow down my choices in the store. He also gave us a bit of a discount which was nice. I ordered a matching dresser, bed, and nightstand set. Delivery took a week longer than expected, but Bryan was great at keeping me posted. Bryan and someone else delivered the furniture and assembled it in my room. Bryan was great at helping me align the furniture so that it would look the best given my room setup. The only downside that I can think of about this place is that the showroom is small, but if you come with your dimensions and are semi-familiar with your room/home/apt, this shouldn't be a problem. I'm really picky, but I highly recommend Furniture Envy! read more

I've been meaning to write this review for a year, but I wanted to live with our sofa for a while before reviewing. And after a year, we are still completely in love with our sofa. We had a wonderful experience with Snow at Furniture Envy. We came with some pretty specific wants and Snow custom designed a sofa that satisfied them all. We wished for a Milo Baughman Case like sofa, in leather (to be fairly kid-proof and avoid pet allergy issues), but not low to the ground. The proportions we wanted were fairly unique (tall, long-legged husband with back issues) and could have easily made the couch look clownish, but Snow went above and beyond to make sure everything looked correct and proportional. We live a few hours away and only met with him in person once. At this meeting he was extremely thorough (even though it was a busy Saturday) and went through every possible detail with us. He kept us updated with the developments and a few months later this beautiful sofa arrived. It weighs about a million pounds and was delivered with care. The construction of the couch is solid and we haven't had a single problem. The leather bottom cushions slipped around really easily, which was annoying, but a non-slip rug protector under them fixed the problem. The leather is perfect and has begun to age appropriately. The walnut looks great. Snow was even kind enough to send us leather conditioner. The price was consistent with what we would have paid for a solidly constructed couch from a big box store (i.e. Room and Board, Restoration Hardware). For a custom sofa, it's very reasonable. We're so crazy about this sofa. It's a showstopper and I've never seen anything like it available in the stores. We never thought we'd find a sofa that fit our ergonomic needs in addition to being beautiful. We'll have it for a very long time. Seriously, I cannot rave enough. read more
