Today we decided to order pizza from Tiano's. We called ahead to order three pizzas. The person who…read moreanswered the phone immediately said, "Tiano's, hold for a minute," and left me on hold for about five minutes before I finally hung up. I figured they were busy, so I called back about 15 minutes later, but the call went straight to voicemail. The voicemail was not even set up. My wife and I both tried from different carriers, Verizon and Spectrum, and had the same issue. We kept trying over the next 15 minutes, thinking maybe the phone lines were tied up because they were busy taking orders. We eventually drove there to place the order in person, only to find they were not busy at all. When I mentioned the phone issue, they told me they "always have problems with the phones." I can only imagine how much business that costs them. I placed the order, and the lady with the thick dark-framed glasses read it back correctly: two large cheese pizzas, one large half cheese / half pepperoni and ham pizza, and one chicken calzone. We were told about a 30-minute wait. When we got home, the order was wrong. We received three large cheese pizzas, with no pepperoni or ham on the specialty pizza we paid extra for. The chicken calzone also had ham in it, which I assume was supposed to go on the pizza. Now I'm wondering where the pepperoni went. Unfortunately, the person who ordered the calzone does not eat ham, so that ended up going in the trash. On top of that, the quality of the pizza was disappointing. The middle of the pizzas seemed undercooked and sloppy. When you picked up a slice, all the cheese slid right off. It's a shame, because we really want to like this place.

Sandwich was very good, the ravioli with the marinara for dipping was great, as were the homemade chips. We dined in the next visit and had a medium pepperoni and mushroom. Very good pie, crust was tasty and nicely done, held the toppings well with a little sag when held, but definitely not soggy. Sauce was just the right amount and very tasty. Service was excellent on both occasions. Hometown feeling, and watching the owners greet long time customers was endearing. Will definitely return.

I walked in and my order was ready to go. The staff was super friendly and the space brings a sense of nostalgia with the vinyl booths and bar area. The pizza was SO GOOD. Crispy pepperonis, melty cheese, a crust that's just the right thickness. I think this may be a pizza winner for us. We will definitely be picking up Star Pizza when in Mayodan frequently!

When we ask about new pizzas we got the popular " they are on a rotation. I am only the waitress. The cook does the pizza. I guess she isn't allowed to speak to the kitchen staff for any reason. If they have a manager then is a poor excuse for one. As much as we enjoy Pizza Hut pizzas we will find a location that has an interest in treating customers as a paying part of the equation through which they get paid.
