This is a great coffee shop. Honestly, it's better than most of the coffee shops I frequent in Minneapolis or Austin, and I cannot recommend it enough. I was visiting my family's cabin in the area surrounding Webster, WI, but I wasn't able to take the week off work. I've been in to Fresh Start for a coffee on my way through town before, and hoped it would be a decent place to use the internet and get some work done. It's all that and more. They have several large tables in their dining room, most with nearby outlets. The internet was actually faster and more reliable than the connection I was using back in the Twin Cities. The ambiance is welcoming, and friendly without being loud - several groups filtered through during the day, chatting and catching up, but the room was never too busy for me to keep working undisturbed. The staff was friendly and helpful when we approached the counter, but also just left us alone as we worked. When you're trying to get a full day's work in, it's pretty time consuming to have to pack up and go get food at another location. That's not at all an issue with Fresh Start - we were able to arrive at 9 am, begin the morning with coffee and a breakfast sandwich (made fresh and better than anything I've ever gotten at Starbucks) before we broke for lunch and Fresh Start had a selection of sandwiches, wraps, and flatbread pizzas (my husband reports that the chicken Ceaser wrap was great.) The coffee itself was excellent, and the carafes they had ready varied day-to-day. This allowed me to try a few different roasts for a simple 25 cent refill fee- totally reasonable, and allows me to top-up when my brew gets cold. I'm so grateful that Fresh Start has been able to set themselves up and succeed. This is seriously a perfect coffee shop and I'll definitely be back next time we're in town. read more

Stopped here for breakfast while on vacation in Webster. It's a cute little cafe with plenty of seating. I got the breakfast bowl and it was good, maybe needs more sausage. My wife got the breakfast sandwich with egg, sausage and cheese. She said it was ok, kinda bland and needed more meat as well. They've done a great job inside, clean and updated. Your options are limited in Webster but for a quick/small breakfast it's worth the stop. Ps: the bbq sauces are bland. Waitress told us a couple were hotter, they tasted like warm ketchup, 0/10 on the sauces. read more

I stopped by Fusion Bistro Cafe Market this morning and ordered a blueberry scone from the bakery section! This was absolutely THE best scone I have ever had! It was crunchy on the outside and moist and FLAVORFUL on the inside! Also it had a quality vanilla drizzle on the outside that was made with care and you can tell! I challenge anyone to find a better scone either here or the twin cities! These are homemade -fresh with love! It shows and tastes! I'm obsessed with their rice bowl selections as well......but now I'm a scone-a-holic! Good job Fusion bakers and staff! read more

Service is always great!! Very friendly and helpful staff that does not rush you through to get to the next person. Always a timely manner in getting both yummy food or a delicious hot chia tea!! It's newly remodeled and the updates are amazing!! I plan on going in the evening and trying some wine. Very clean and spacious. There is also a small pastry shelf to choice a fresh croissant or a delicious doughnut. Everything I have eaten was made fresh, so worth the little extra wait!!! I ordered a Iced coffee with sugar free almond no cream and when they served it to me it had cream I asked the lady if I could get a coffee without cream and she said no we only do iced lattes or iced americanos so I took the coffee and it was so bitter and didn't taste good with the cream and the donuts were so stale. read more

I really want this place to make it, so I've been trying to frequent the coffee shop, but so far I have not been thrilled with my experiences. I've gone to Fresh Start a few times to do some work (they have free wifi - a big plus). The internet has been inconsistent, but if you ask the staff, they will reset the router and it usually starts working again after this. The coffee is pretty good and I don't think the prices are too high because of the quality. I have had lattes, cappuccinos, drip coffee, and tea. I have also had the breakfast pizza (no meat). All were good and I would order again. The reason for the 3 stars is that a few weekends ago, I went to Fresh Start at 7am on a Saturday. Although the opening time posted on the window is 7am, no one showed up to open the store until 8am. I've worked at coffee shops before, so I understand that someone may have slept past their alarm and were scrambling when they got there, but the service I received when I came in was pretty bad. Multiple cars had been waiting outside since 7am (along with a lot of other cars that had come and gone). When we were finally let inside, there was no apology for the delayed opening or even an acknowledgement. An older couple sitting next to me ordered 2 coffees and 2 blueberry muffins. The barista said the muffins were in the oven, so there would be a short wait, but she didn't give a time. The muffins ended up not being ready for about 25 minutes and the couple was getting very frustrated that they were ready to go, but still had not received the muffins they paid for. I gave the girls a couple of minutes to get organized, but when I did go up to the counter to order a latte, no one said anything to me or helped me for a good minute or two. It was a little awkward... Overall, I will go back to Fresh Start because I want it to succeed. I just hope they get their service issues figured out, because the products they are selling are good. read more

We own a small cabin near Webster WI, but live most of the year in Las Vegas. As you can imagine rural Wisconsin is not a coffee mecca. So one sunday morning I was Goggling for a place to get an espresso and a pastry. I came across Fresh Start, I called and spoke with the owner, Lisa, she was sweet on the phone and we talked coffee. I told her what i was looking for, a somewhat obscure blend, and she gave me multiple selections to meet my request, and this on a Sunday morning and offered more if I could wait till Monday. Her Sunday selection was great, She said it would take about 20 minutes to FRESH ROAST the beans, yes she fresh roasted a one pound bag, on a Sunday, in a 600 person town in rural Wisconsin. This is unheard of. As I write this review on early Monday morning drinking a great coffee... All I can say it thank you Lisa ! read more

I had to stop to see what kind of "coffee roaster" would be in Webster, Wisconsin. I imagined it would be similar to the usual coffee shop in a small (or large) town, where they have a freshness policy even laxer than Caribou Coffee ("no beans roasted earlier than the twentieth century"). Of course, I was completely wrong. Turns out they have only GREEN beans, and if you want a pound, they roast them for you on the spot in a couple of large sample roasters. Wha? I've never even run into that kind of freshness policy in a big city--it's a great idea, assuming your customers will wait around for it. I guess their customers will. And that's probably why I've never seen it before--most people want their instant gratification without waiting for it. I had a capp to go, and it was quite good. I had a couple of cookies, and they seemed ... acceptable. Not wonderful, but the other baked goods looked decent. Even allowing for a 20 percent weight loss after roasting, the prices were great--$12 a pound green or around $15 roasted. And you can't get much fresher than "hot from the roaster." If I get back to try some beans (I was willing to wait, but didn't want to force my wife to), I may raise them to five stars. read more

Destined for greatness? I think they are going to give it their best shot. If I remember correctly, they opened in April 2012. The owner is from New York and has some great ideas from what I could see. Can you imagine moving from New York to sleepy little Webster? The interior of this shop is very comfortable with an upscale interior. I'm not a coffee drinker but they looked like they had a very decent selection of coffee, teas and smoothies. The smoothies are "straight from the bottle flavored" so no fruit chunks in my strawberry/vanilla smoothie. I enjoyed the smoothie and was topped off with fresh whipping cream. They have a selection of pastries and cookies and deli type sandwiches for lunch. The bill was very reasonable, I was expecting a bigger one and was pleasantly surprised. They don't have a lot of seating there and I heard from their very friendly that they were going to add some retail. Next time I'm heading through Webster I'll have to stop by and see how they are doing. read more

Great coffee, amazing cinnamon rolls. (Come from a bakery in Fredrick.) Lots of quiet spaces for talking, computing. Beautiful outdoor patio with tables and chairs. Entry door is around the side, a bit confusing. Watch your step when entering or you'll end up on your keister. read more

I visit a coffee shop somewhere almost every day. I go to be among people while I write and enjoy coffee. Fresh Start was a surprise to me as Webster is a small community in the middle of lake company. Prices are great and the variety of coffees is impressive. I am partial to the Tanzanian Peaberry which seems to be featured about once a week. The staff seems to be in flux lately, but I have no complaints. read more

My personal opinion is that their coffe etc. was a bit higher than it should be. It was good, but for those prices and staying there to enjoy a pastry and latte, it should not be served in cardboard. However with the limited choices in the area it is a nice change. But, don't charge city prices in the country. Have not tried lunch yet. read more

We each ordered soup to go along with our lunches. We also each ordered a different type of soup. My beef soup arrived and was only 1/3 full...I could tell because of the other 2 bowls. When I asked about it, I was told they ran out of my selection. After a brief staredown, I was asked if I'd like another type of soup to make up for what I hadn't received. Sure, but why I wasn't offered a solution before I asked is a mystery. They brought me another 1/3 bowl of soup (still short 1/3). My beef soup was pretty good, the beer cheese was also good, but the wild rice was like eating kindergarten paste. No flavor and WAY to thick. Sandwiches and bagel were just OK...nothing special. In general, we were eating in a place that was probably about 6 months from being busy again. That area is humming during the summer, but ghost town in the shoulder seasons. Pleeeeease stay in business! I hit alot of coffee shops (many in urban areas), and this place can honestly compete with them. It will be the best coffee you can get in this area. They roast their own beans and have a really high quality flavor in my opinion. The food is good too. I love stopping in here on my way out of the area and getting a sandwich and a giant coffee for the road. It's really nice to see some of these tastefully done coffee shops up in northern Wisconsin and small towns, whereas just a few years ago they weren't there. We stopped in for a coffee and a treat on the way to Duluth. Our experienced started with the employees giving us the feeling we were bothering them by coming in. Very unfriendly. We paid for our coffee and smoothies with a debit card the bill came to $9.69. We looked at our account this week and noticed they charged us $12.69. I know that small business owners pay a percentage to the credit card companies for using them and that some business pass that charge on to the customers, but a 30% service fee is a bit much. I feel cheated by this under handed and dishonest way of forcing people to leave a tip. I wanted to write this review so others will be aware of the dishonest practices of this unfriendly coffee shop and not stop at this coffee shop. I know we will not be stopping there again. read more
