"Hello, Heartwood? I would like to make reservations for your Mother's Day Brunch for 9:00 a.m."…read more "How many will be in your party?" "Just me. My husband passed away in January." We went on, the two of us, talking pleasantries a bit more, stranger to stranger. I promised I would be there at 9:00 and hung up. The next morning, I was there on time and was greeted by the young woman who recognized my name. "We talked last night. You are our guest today. No charge." Stephanie said. I was dumbfounded and realized that she saw within me something I didn't realize I had revealed--that I needed to be pampered, that I was vulnerable, that I was tired, that I was worried, that I hurt. I had never alluded to any of that over the phone, but she knew. The staff regularly checked on me, the owner especially making certain I was fine, and I was. The brunch was amazing, filled with luscious entrees, a far cry from the normal Northwoods pizza-hamburger venues. I was also able to enjoy watching the young parents with their children, lining up for their eggs and shrimp and everything delightful. I am home now and soon I will be watching a movie--probably a western--that my husband would have liked. I will remember him telling me all about the lives of the actors, how this movie compared to another, how the plots developed. I will remember my folks and wish they were again enjoying the rustic comforts of the cabin. I will remember my caring son and daughter who will call later to see what mischief I have been into. And I will remember the "strangers" who crossed my path today to help point me forward into a journey of hope.

That said the event hosted around 176 people for dinner and the Duces Wild music show. First, the place is beautiful and vert well maintained. The meal we had was terrific (Walleye). The other choices were Rib eye steak and a chicken dish. We didn't hear one negative comment about the food. The service was great, food was hot and served quickly. A real accomplishment in today's market where no one wants to work. We will go back!

We ended our night playing yard games outside and making s'mores around a fire. It was a great time! Larson's Barn has a beautiful dance floor that we used for our first dance. Kathy is very easy to work with, even when we got there late to set-up the day before. There was a frost warning the day before the wedding and Kathy was sure to cover all of the flower beds. The next day although jack frost had come through all of the plants and flowers looked great. Since our entire group was from out of the area we also rented the small cabin and the under the barn apartment for the weekend. It was great for all of the bridesmaids and groomsman to be onsite, less stressful for everyone. We even had a hairstylist come out to the barn to do the girls hair. Everything was very convenient for being in the country of MN.

What a fantastic community space and outdoor recreation center! Totally makes winter in Minnesota…read moreeven better. I'm new to discovering The Trailhead at Theodore Wirth Regional Park, but believe me when I say I'll be back many more time. In the winter, they offer cross-country skiing and lessons. (You can rent a full set of gear for about $30- no need to have your own to experience skiing! They also have à la carte options for cheaper if you only need poles or boots, etc.) Besides skiing, outdoor winter activities also include snow tubing, snowboarding, snowshoeing.... You name it. (I haven't been in fall or summer yet, but I also hear great things about their mountain biking and trail running options.) Inside The Trailhead, there's food and drink concessions, ample seating, lockers, bathrooms, and even rooms for rent. The last time I was there, a family was hosting a young child's birthday party in the multi-purpose room. Altogether, there is an amazing assortment of services here to come and check out. Can't wait for next ski season!

The building is a perfect space for bringing a large group together for games, chatting, eating, and sledding on the snowy hills just outside the doors. They used to serve hot food, but they no longer have that option. The food was not consistent or anything all that special, but it was a nice option. This time we brought Thanksgiving leftovers and some breakfast bagel sandwiches. The space is well maintained and clean. It is spacious and has lots of room for young kids to run around and not be a disturbance. Always look forward to coming here.

My most recent visit was during their Holiday Club pop-up event with holiday-themed drinks. My group tried the salted sour, cookie butter old fashioned, and Mama Nancy's Xmas punch. All the drinks were fantastic, but my favorite was the cookie butter old fashioned. It was perfectly made and not too sweet. They've got the space nicely decorated for Christmas. It's wonderfully cozy! The staff are friendly, too. Only one person was working when we were there, and she did a great job balancing all of the customers. Be sure to check the hours on their website/social media before you go. They seem to be a little varied.

When your establishment is closed you need to lock your doors, not act like jerks. To elaborate I was sober and in my right mind, just trying to get a feel for the numerous bars in Superior WI. I walked in it was 11:03 and they said they closed at 10 and the coworkers were in the bar having a drink. I lingered for a moment to see what beers they have on tap, in case I wanted to come back. Don't worry about It, I won't be! I said I liked the Celebration Ale by Sierra Nevada, then one of the gentleman ubruptly stood up and said "that reminds me I will show you out and lock the door behind you." The only explanation is, they must of thought I was a drunk because that's how I was treated. I perceived his FU tone of voice, and felt completely degraded to be ushered out the door. I wish I could of given them the zero star rating. The way I was handled gives me the feeling that this establishment has a superioriry complex. Your are mistaken the Lake is Superior, but your attitude was perceived as appallingly rude by this potential customer!
