I've practiced different forms of Martial Arts most of my life (I'm 56)…read more This school is unlike any other experience I've had. I broke my back, spent 10 years in pain, I was scared to move fast, or twist too much. There was a lot of fear in my body and mind. I also knew that I was growing fat, moving less, and my future was going down hill. I needed to do something! The level of instruction, knowledge, caring, respect, and friendships I have experienced at Oom Yung Doe over the last two years is very, very special. I move with a new sense of freedom (I never thought I'd see again). I sleep like a baby, my mind is sharp and focused. I stand with pride and strength. 100% of the credit goes to the incredible knowledge that has been passed down over generations, and my incredible instructors. The time I spend training with my daughter has also been a great bonding experience. It gave us more of a common ground, communication, and a different kind of respect and understanding that brought us closer together. I've seen the same drastic improvements with everyone around me. I highly recommend Oom Yung Doe for all ages, and all body types. It is by far the best thing I've ever done for myself. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Hank Marcus

Many times, over the course of several years, I realized I needed to follow a healthy lifestyle,…read morebut I sure didn't want to go to a gym! What was this lazy 50 year old advertising agency guy going to do? I was never an athlete growing up and I can tell you that I have never set foot inside of an LA Fitness. I tried out various in-home fitness programs and saw some results, but it became boring for me, I quickly lost interest and there was a complete absence of motivation and challenge. Although I was always eating healthy, I knew I needed to find some kind of fitness program in order for my diet to be worth the effort. I needed something more, but what? Oh, how lucky I was that there was someone in my life who cared enough to give me one of the greatest gifts I could ever hope for: an introduction into the world of martial arts. My friend brought me to a different school that was teaching a watered down version of what I call "moo doe lite". Moo doe (which is taught at Oom Yung Doe) is traditional martial arts, with lineage that goes back centuries and was only passed on to the wealthy and privileged in East Asia. After spending almost two years at this other school, I was naturally led to the School of Oom Yung Doe in Oviedo for more proper and advanced training and focus. Our school teaches the principles of 8 martial arts combined and taught as one - it is brilliant! We learn the principles of Kung Fu, Bagwa, Aikido, Tae Kwon Do, Jujitsu, Tai Chi and all the classic martial arts weapons are available to learn. I instantly felt comfortable that this was the correct path for me. The increase in my strength, coordination, flexibility and even my confidence is unbelievable. One of my favorite parts of the school is the amazing students I have met and the quality, dedication and a sincere sense of caring from the Instructors. The leader of our school, National Instructor Rich, has been practicing for almost 40 years and teaches classes every week. There are also two Head Instructors who consistently provide some of the most rewarding and challenging lessons available. The Instructors truly make this school one of the finest martial arts school in the country. And if that's not already amazing, we have regular visits from International Instructors and Masters who provide specialized training throughout the year. You could not ask for a more talented, experienced and honorable group. During my journey I quickly noticed improvements at work in the form of my focus, energy level, problem solving abilities, attitude and patience. My boss has commented to me numerous times that I am "on fire". My clients benefit from my increased level of creativity and leadership, and see their business goals being clearly defined and hit on a regular basis. I am excited to see how I progress further through my training. Over and over again I found myself applying principles from class into my personal life; not just saying them, but incorporating them into my life. Through my training at Oom Yung Doe I have learned about what's truly important in life and how to become a better man... a better citizen... a better human being. It's more that just sweating, it's about following the correct path in life and making a difference for those important people in your life. And the most beautiful part of all of this is that I have just scratched the surface. But, how lucky am I to have received this gift of learning traditional moo doe from some of the most amazing people in the country. Every day I realize how much I am benefiting my mind, body and spirt. I envision myself practicing traditional moo doe for the rest of my life... an endless supply of positive energy and movements added to my life. A group of people that I am proud to be associated with and who I am proud to serve, learn from and become more like them. I have barely started learning all there is to learn at Oom Yung Doe. Please check back in a year or so and I'll update you on my journey! In the meantime I hope to see you in class - adults, teens and kids always welcomed!

Darkwolf MMA: A World-Class Experience Darkwolf MMA is more than deserving of a five-star rating. Disregard any negative comments you might see; they likely come from individuals unfamiliar with the inner workings of MMA gyms. FYI, I'm just a proud father of a 13 year old son that you can meet when you come to the gym. My name's Christopher "Chris" Lee and just started bringing my son to Darkwolf January 2 of this year. Championship Excellence: At every Jiu Jitsu youth tournament I've witnessed, someone from Darkwolf has always emerged victorious in their weight class. Impressively, my son, a newcomer and new to the sport, clinched second place in the past two tournaments--a remarkable achievement! Even if they didn't place, it wouldn't indicate bad training if you knew anything about how MMA or Jiu Jitsu works. Beyond Training: Becoming a world-class fighter is a complex journey that goes beyond training. The trainers at Darkwolf are exceptional, offering expertise that encompasses the psychological, disciplinary, and nuanced aspects of MMA. Fun and Skill: The fusion of rigorous skill-building and a lively, engaging environment is truly special. Witnessing the children's joy during training sessions is a reflection of the gym's commitment to nurturing every aspect of their growth. The varied skill levels among the children are a delight to observe, showcasing that the journey to mastery is as much about personal dedication as it is about quality training. World-Class Potential: The potential for producing a world-class fighter at Darkwolf MMA is undeniable, given their excellent training regimen. It's hard to imagine how they could improve. If they never produce a world class fighter (a rare feat), it has nothing to do with their lack of ability to train a world class fighter and more about the dedication of the fighter themselves. Thank you, Darkwolf MMA, for your outstanding contribution to the martial arts community! Celebrating the Lohsen Family's Martial Arts Mastery David Lohsen: The At-Home Training Expert/Professor. He extends his martial arts expertise through instructional YouTube videos. These tutorials are invaluable for those practicing at home, ensuring that your training remains on point even away from the gym. Melissa Lohsen: A Champion of self-defense, or Warrior, as endearingly called by some. She is a standout instructor at Darkwolf. Not only does she excel in connecting with children, but she also offers valuable self-defense techniques through her YouTube videos, empowering women and girls with the skills to protect themselves. Even disabled males like me can learn from this, lol. Christian Lohsen: An instructor and a star at Darkwolf MMA whose fights can be found on YouTube. Those videos display an impressive array of skills, from precise strikes to fluid grappling techniques. Together, the Lohsen family exemplifies the spirit of Darkwolf MMA, blending passion, skill, and a sense of community. Whether you're watching Christian's fights, Melissa's self-defense videos, or following David's detailed tutorials, the essence of Darkwolf MMA is always present. A round of applause for David, Melissa, and Christian Lohsen for their significant contributions to martial arts, both in and out of the gym!

I tried my best, and trained frequently, but I always felt like my trainer was frustrated and disappointed with my performance. I went there to learn a new skill and get a good workout, not be judged and humiliated! My experience PROVES that they definitely DO NOT live up to their supposed core values: "Our core values are built upon hard work and respect. We create a healthy & safe environment and mentor our clients to take personal responsibility for their results". I sure didn't feel like I was "respected" or provided with a "healthy environment". Additionally, their alleged PROMISE: "We pledge to provide you with a fitness environment that will be supportive, passionate, safe & full of integrity while promoting excellence and fitness in our community" is nothing more than words on their website that they are NOT committed to. I certainly didn't experience a "supportive" and "safe" environment, or a scintilla of "integrity". An organization's culture is created by its leadership team and when I respectfully tried to share my experience with the owner, he never even bothered to call me back. Bottom line, STAY AWAY from this place!!!

BEST KEPT SECRET?? Not really. (A reference to my 2023 posting)…read more After almost 3 years of my high school age son taking lessons here he was suddenly and unexpectedly placed into a class of about 18 children about 6-7 years old. When I spoke with the owner about it that same day, and again with my wife and I the next morning (today) we asked that our 15-year old son be moved back into a class that was age appropriate. Our son is 6 feet tall and 190 lb by the way. When the facility owner continued to try to justify the new program that resulted in this and repeatedly REFFUSED to place him back into his old age appropriate class (that was also training that same day) we told the owner we would have pull him from the class if he could not train and attend his normal practices WITH HIS OWN AGE GROUP, The owner responded by saying, "Then pull him from the program". So we in fact did that just moments ago. I have more I could, say but will reserve those negative concerns as I don't want to pile on, but clearly have an overall different opinion of this venue now that I have been able to see things over a longer course of time. Not to mention the other parental stories I have heard. Thus, I felt the need to clarify my first posting, which has obviously changed. The positive....., the facility is nice! I mean, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came back 3 times since it was initially introduced! What show do you know that does that!?! Then the 90's came with Wu Tang dropping sick beats about it, and Jet Li looking inferior, while Jackie Chan continued to school people, and then hit Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. THAT movie really did it for me, showing grace, beauty AND strength. From early in life I had always been dazzled by the dynamic abilities of a martial artist and wanted to be a martial artist, but growing up in a small town in the Midwest, we didn't really have schools that taught martial arts, so I was left to the teachings of a rat on my TV as I mimicked some of the moves. But as you enter adulthood, somewhere along the way you hope that your children will live out your dreams, and that's when I decided to sign up my son. Over the past 9 years, across several states (MN, ND, CA, TX), I have had the pleasure of meeting many masters in Tae Kwon Do. They all have taught my son wonderful skills, but even more importantly, they helped shape his character. So when looking for a martial arts Instructor and school, I look for four things: 1. A credible instructor 2. Technique AND philosophy 3. Clean training facility 4. A FUN atmosphere At Martial Arts World, it is not just Tae Kwon Do that they teach; they also mix in a little bit of Hapkido, and Judo (Jui Juitsu) in their self-defense, so there's a better chance for practical application to the real world should you ever need to defend yourself. Sr. Instructor Villamizar is a true martial artist with over 25+ years of training in various forms. His staff also has years of training with excellent technique. I was extremely impressed with the level of knowledge and skills they all posses, but what stands out the most is the philosophy that Sr. Instructor Villamizar teaches. His goal is to build life champions, and he works with his students on goal setting not just in martial arts, but also in their personal lives. I love that they don't just teach about kicking and punching, and even more so, they all have a true appreciation for the history of the arts. While my son has been training for 9 years, I was finally invited to join later on and have been training for almost 5 years. (My childhood dreams have finally come true!! Eeekkk!!!) And maybe you too are wondering, "Can adults start even though I'm not in shape?" Or, "isn't it too late in life?" or, "But I'm injured and limited in what I can do" Well, I'm here to tell you, it is never too late, and any ability can learn!! For something that has stuck around for centuries....CENTURIES...there must be something worth learning here, right? Much like Yoga, Martial Arts can be for anyone. It is all based on your ability, and despite any injuries or limitations you have, anything can be modified. Martial Arts isn't just UFC kicking and punching, it is philosophy, art, flexibility, strength, fun, AND PRACTICAL. I recently chose to start training at this school not just because of this school meeting my four requirements, but also because of the professionalism and care from the staff. They have classes available for all ability levels, after school programs, and summer camp. So stop singing, "Everybody was King Fu fighting" and check them out!! And always remember, "You don't have to be great to start, you just have to start to be great."
