First off, I've had major health issues since I was a small child, and I've seen more doctors that…read morealmost anyone else here who's submitted a review. I know what makes good medical and support staff. It seems that people are really motivated to write negative reviews when they've had a bad experience (pain meds, anyone?), but less motivated when it's good, maybe because we're feeling better and we forget it. Although I've had a couple imperfect experiences, for the most part, I've been really happy with Albany Med. I have congenital health issues that have to be managed carefully, and for decades, I lived in NYC, where my doctors coordinated everything. (I have to admit, I was probably spoiled by them.) But at this point, after several years up here, I'm content to shift everything to Albany Med. I've been lucky enough to have caring, intelligent primaries and their teams, and the specialists I've seen have been kind and competent. One staff member in Pulmonology wasn't great, but that was probably more about personality and politics (come on, in this age, who doesn't believe that vaccines are worth the "risk"?!). But I've never seen them again, so I was satisfied with that result. (There must be a note in my chart somewhere never to assign me to *that* person. Ever.) I've seen specialists in pulmonology, immunology, gastroenterology, OBGYN, and of course, primary care. Each of the doctors listened to my concerns, carefully considered my extensive records, and helped me make good choices for my care. No healthcare organization is perfect. By accepting this and allowing them to try their best to support me and my spouse through all my health mess, we've had good results with Albany Med. When you're in pain or really sick, it's difficult to be patient and understanding, but if you can allow yourself to remember that the doctors, RNs, PAs, and NPs are trying to be on your side, it helps. Since COVID, all medical establishments have struggled to get enough staff. We've all struggled. So my advice is to decide you want to be on the same team as the meds, not their adversaries. I DO NOT mean don't contradict them or just accept everything blindly. You have to advocate for yourself and be honest about the problems you're having. And seriously, remember that they ARE trying to help. Work with them to make it happen. (Also, if you want to complain about the physical facilities, maybe you should vote for the kind of funding needed to build, maintain, and staff those facilities.)

They really need to rethink those makeshift "rooms" in the hallways of their emergency room. Having…read moreto lay outside a bathroom for nearly 24 hours was gross. How horrible when you're sick you have to smell someone's poop. LITERALLY! It was disgusting. Just no! Some of the nurses were so unprofessional, bitching and swearing about patients out in the open hallway for us to hear, ignoring cries from people that were hurting. I actually got up to check on someone because they were yelling they couldn't breathe and nobody responded despite being in ear shot. I am not a medical professional and could only offer to find someone for him. The nurse that finally came in was so rude to him that he actually said something to her "please stop being mean to me." Every time she went into his room I could hear her saying things I feel were inappropriate for someone supposedly caring. I was actually stunned at the goings on in this ER and am surprised they haven't been shut down. People deserve better. I understand being short handed and the job is stressful but there's no reason to be rude to the people that you're getting paid to help and care for. Lose the attitudes! Nobody wants to be there! The area where I was stuck was absolutely disgustingly dirty. Blood and puke chunks on the floor for hours. I mentioned the community smelly bathroom. Gross. The patient liaison in the lobby was the nicest and super helpful. There was also a male nurse who seemed to be one of the only ones to care and really strived to be helpful so I'm thankful to those two! The doctors are super scarce and they will get to you when they feel like it. Horrible.

If you are looking for a doctor who keeps accurate patient data correct, doesn't double bill for…read morelab tests, and who embraces patients that are engaged in their own healthcare journy - Dr. Bodnar is NOT it. Dr. Bodnar was actually recommended to me so I was looking forward to a good relationship and care with a new doctor, having newly relocated to the area. Dr. Bodnar is initially personable and seems like she is interested in her patients but that facade soon fades away. Her office took incorrect data on me - adding to my records that I was a smoker which I am not. When I brought it to their attention to correct the particular office staff had an atttude with me, for an error on their part. I had come to Dr. Bodnar to get to the bottom of a health situation - I am an athlete who was experiencing rapid wait gain over a short window - I told her in my second visit that I keep track of my workouts, calories and macros so was eager to understand if there were other conditions creating this situation. I got handed a sheet on generic weight management for overweight people when I left the office. It was like she had not even listened to a thing I said in the visit. The last straw for me was Dr. Bodnar ordering identical thyroid tests for me 3 days apart. When I brought the mistake to their attention, Tina in billing said she reached out to the lab to work to get that second test removed. What ensued was months of back and forth with Tina as the lab kept sending me bills for the test. In the end it was never resolved, I was never credited, and the communication ball was dropped entirely by Dr. Bodnar's office. Unfortunately I felt the opposite of any care or professionalism from Dr. Bodnar's office - I definitely do not recommend them.

Yeah, this place has its good and its bad. In my personal experience, which is, of course, all I…read morecan talk about with any degree of certainty, the good is very good and the bad is pretty bad. The good, in my experience, is largely my NP. She's excellent, communicates well, makes things very clear to me, and I can consider her "my NP", in that see her every time I go, unlike the doctor-go-round I rode at the last practice I used where I never saw the same doctor twice in a row. I don't know if that's how they usually do things at OMC; I just made it clear to whomever I saw the first couple of times I went there that that's why I was switching practices and what I was looking for, and whether because I said that or because that's just how they do things there, they've made it happen and I really appreciate that. They also understood that I prefer to see a woman practitioner and if my NP is unavailable for any reason then they'll set me up with another female doctor/NP. So all that's great. Where they have fallen down kind of consistently in my experience is in their communication - and that's a big deal, because communication is the foundation of every successful relationship, and if that's not there, you've got a real problem. I went to a dental practice to have a tooth extracted, and they needed a medical release from OMC, so they faxed their request over, and it was never responded to. So I went back in a couple of weeks later, and the process was repeated, with the same result. At this point, I went in to OMC in person to talk to someone at the desk, and she was great and apologized that they were way behind on their faxes (that's a very bad thing in it of itself), and assured me that she would see that the release got over to the dental practice that day...and it never did. That tooth is still in my head (thankfully it doesn't bother me or if this would've been an even bigger problem). So I guess, long story short, I love my practitioner but I'm not as crazy about the practice itself. They do some things well and some other things not well at all. As such, I can recommend trying them perhaps, and seeing what your own experience is like, but unfortunately I can't just give a wholehearted recommendation.

I feel he is the best urologist I could ever find. Unfortunately the office operation is the worst most disorganized system you can imagine. You cannot leave a message for the Doctor directly. Twice this past 6 months I have left messages on the nurse call back option and no return calls and no response on the patience portal. During the 1st bad experience at the end of all the options, you could reach a person in the reception area which a did and after 5 days of no response. Today the option does not exist, I had to press the number for a hospital or doctors line to speak to a live person which I did after 4 days of no response to both my voice message and patient portal. Corporate rules and guidelines are the trouble here.
