Came to FYE countless times during my five-year stint at Penn State Beaver. Like the good music FYE sells, I found myself crying here after a failed test, sharing it with friends, visiting and revisiting it for no reason why, purposefully using it to celebrate, and making memories here.
I watched the store size get cut in half, fortunately and unfortunately, around the end of my sophomore year (around April 2013). I say fortunately because the store now looks more well-stocked; whether it is or not I don't know. On the flip side, I say unfortunately because it's like they took half my heart.
I've gotten several friends hooked here and they even signed up for the rewards program. My carless friends at Penn State Beaver often cited FYE as their destination of choice on the days I'd come early or stay late since I commuted.
Customer service here is great; one time they held Marc Cohn's self-titled album for me for three days while I was waiting for payday.
The store is welcoming and it's a great time killer if you're between class or waiting to meet a friend at the food court. Not only do they sell music CDs, but you'll also find TV DVDs, movies, t-shirts, posters, stuffed animals and figurines, music hardware such as Walkmans and headphones, and more that I can't even name.
Once you learn the layout of the store, it's perfectly logical and most things are labeled well.
I'm going to have to give FYE give four stars, because while they need to make their money, some used stuff is still too expensive. I have been drooling over Triumph's "Allied Forces" album for four years; it's $19.99 in the store (used), and $12.99 new on Amazon. True, there's something to be said about blasting "Magic Power" in your car's stereo, but to save seven dollars, I'll order it for new off of Amazon, wait another week, and save the cash for their "buy two, get the third one for $1" sale. That's just one example; there are plenty more.
If you haven't visited FYE yet, make the trip from wherever you are to the Beaver County Mall before Shell buys it out for their cracker plant. Your only regret will be not sinking your hard-earned dollars here at FYE sooner. read more
