It reminds me of the store Natural Wonders that was found in malls when I was a kid. I loved that shop so much, so browsing through Brain Storm feels wonderfully familiar. There are tons of toys out for playing and testing and they encourage you to explore. And there's plenty of stuff to look at like stuffed animals, rocks like petoskey stones, puzzles, educational offerings like butterfly gardens and dinosaur dig kits, plus arts supplies, board games, building sets, etc, etc. Plenty of good fun for both kids and the kids at heart! My daughter calls it the Toto. Kids race to this spot for tiny classic toys, like rubber balls, silly putty, cap guns, toy dolls or ponies, and children's jewelry. They used to sell loads of candy, but have minimized that selection to focus on things like M-22 t-shirts, and North Face jackets. The Sun Bum sunscreen is some of the only you'll find in town, but it smells divine- lightly like a coconut/banana. The swimsuit selection is ample- this year I packed our family of four to come up here but somehow my own bikinis did not make it up. I was quickly able to choose 2 bikinis by Reef, with my size (M) in stock. Joy! In and out in ten minutes. The store also deals in Murdick's Fudge, which is a must-taste by all tourists (I swear by Rocky Road or Maple Nut). Did your sunglasses fly off the boat? They have Panama Jacks for sixteen bucks, polarized. A great spot to buy necessary outdoorsy replacements. Change is difficult, but the new owners have retained the playful spirit of the store while upgrading the merchandise!

This cream colored alpaca cable knit sweater caught my eye in the display window, even though it was only the back of it. I went inside, liked the front side of it. My SIL & BIL just bought a new house so they were excitedly exploring all the decor, particularly garden decor, for their new abode. My husband's niece also recently got her first house and she excitedly picked out several cute things for her yard like the stone owls and a couple of other pieces. While everyone was browsing outside I popped inside and saw the most gorgeous embroidered chair. It was blue with orange birds and flowers all over it. I showed it to my husband who also loved it and urged me to get it. "That is an Annette chair if I've ever saw one" he said. Alas, we are due for getting some repair work done around our house so I balked at the price and said "maybe next time!" And stepped away from the chair with a longing look. Hah. I didn't leave empty handed tho! I picked up a cute solar grasshopper figurine to add to my garden and a golden fox statue for indoor decor. Anyway, I left the shop to go browse down the street and long story short, my in-laws were sneaky and bought me the chair as a surprise gift!! I was floored by their generosity and tried to argue, but the deal was done so I accepted the gift with the kindness intended. Now, between me, my husband, my mom, three dogs and all our luggage we had zero room in our car for the chair so my sneaky in-laws also arranged delivery with the shop. A day or two after we got back home I got a call and text from the gallery letting me know the owner himself was going to be in our town the next day and had the chair with him for delivery. I was surprised and impressed that they did their own delivery (not sure what I expected but wasn't white glove service by the owner to our house 4.5 hours from them!) My husband greeted him at the door and the chair was delivered in all its beautiful glory. So yeah, this store is great for unique decor both small (cute stone owls) to large (a beautiful embroidered chair) and everything in between. Now I just have to figure out the right place to put it bc this is a chair that demands to be seen!

It was first time here at the…read moreDUNES and it was such an UP-HILL task, we climbed about 3/4 dunes and we had a pretty good view of things. It would definitely take quite a long time to climb all 7. Definitely worth a visit. The center was ok - nothing special. There were a lot of souvenirs that you could get and there was a lot of history for people to see.
