For the sandwich, it tastes like a typical spicy chicken sandwich and the fyrebird sauce tastes like a mild Tabasco. The lettuce looks like In n Out's animal style onions. It's chopped up so small. Let me start off by saying, I LOVE this place! I've been patronizing this restaurant since its conception and it has consistently proved that they are the bar. Wingstop doesn't get any of our money anymore. When my kiddos want wings, they request Fyrebird. Why? Because they never disappoint when it comes to customer service, presentation & Flava. Customer Service - It doesn't matter if I'm placing a phone order or takeout order, I am always greeted with a smile and pleasant attitude. Presentation - disclaimer: I eat with my eyes first. I'm the friend who makes you wait to eat because I need a picture. If it doesn't look good, I'm not eating it. At Fyrebird, that isn't the case at all. I've never ordered a wing or Flava fry I didn't want to devour instantly (hence no picture). The food is always packed neatly and because it's made to order, it's always fresh. Flava - The sauce? Fire . Not the spicy fire because I don't do spicy...it's nothing short of amazing. My go-to Flava's are: Lemon Pepper & BBQ mix Lemon Pepper @ Buffalo mix Side Note: You can even mix Flava's in your Flava Fries. Warning‼ DON'T FORGET THE HOME MADE RANCH. It's fantastic without it, but if you want the captivation the way I want you to have it, get the ranch. Get extra. They even have a vegan ranch which is my go-to. Catering - Anytime I'm having more than 10 people at my house, you can bet I'm placing an order. The food arrived on time and it was hot & fresh. It's always a hit and there's never leftovers. I order plenty of wings to accommodate everyone and think they'll be a wing for the next day...nope! I had to go back the next day because as the host, I didn't get ONE wing. But I couldn't be mad! Parking - Parking can be crazy because it's in a small center. But don't let that stop you. Some of the best things come in tiny packages Seating - Not in a rush? Stick around. There's a private seating area/ patio for Fyrebird customers in the back of the restaurant. There's plenty of space. Event Space - Need an event space? You can rent their patio for your own private events - Inquire for more information. They have had several hosted after hours events there. First of all, I like the name. It's a brand name.I was confused by the location. If you blink too fast you'll miss it. It's cozy spot but there's a patio area. The service was very cool and helpful. I'm going to start with the overall, and then get granular further down. Overall, delicious. Chicken is crispy and crunchy and juicy. It's got a batter on it, and it's great. Sandwich was well balanced and delicious. Can't go wrong. French fries are always edible, but definitely sometimes better than others. The seasoned salt is inconsistent and freshness is also inconsistent. But like I love French fries and these are fine for me. They're the limper thinner kind - more McDonald's than wings too. Sauce. See details below. But. The sauce is pretty generous and can make the chicken less crunchy so maybe get sauce on the side if it's to go or you care about the crunch. At $8.75 for 6 huge tenders, they are a bargain compared to some other chicken joints. Most of the spice options for the tenders are in sauces that are applied after they are fried. The Spicy Cali-Heat is a dry rub, and while it's spicy, it's not killer hot. The batter Frybird uses crisps up nicely, giving the chicken a good crunch. Not much seating on the inside so it's definitely a place for pick up orders The bad: The wait took a little while even when I called in a head of time. Their fries are not something I usually enjoy. Was REALLY craving a chicken sandwich and Fyrebird did not disappoint! I got the chicken sandwich with honey chipotle sauce and it was life-changing. The sauce with the mayo and the lettuce and the pickles and the fried chicken - incredible. And it was a HUGE sandwich too! The only downside was the fries. I wouldn't have gotten them if I knew how big the sandwich was lol. They were overly salty to me. But the fries won't factor into my rating since this is a chicken shop and the chicken part was delicious. I would love to come back here with a few friends and just try a bunch of tenders with all their different sauces since they all look really good. We tried the sweet hot and the traditional. The sweet hot was good, but was basically just sweet chili. The traditional was also good, but the chicken could use more flavor. Did a search via Yelp, & Fyrebird hit the top 5... since I tried 3 of the 5 (the other was a KFC: Korean fried chicken), I chose Fyrebird, not only because of its interesting name but for the different flavas they offer. They're no-frills, just chicken & fries, so I imagine great tasting chicken since it's their main focus. I ordered the FAMILY PACK (30 pieces of wings or tenders, includes 4 flavas, 4 dipping sauces, & 1 box of fries): ORIGINAL & LEMON PEPPER (5 each) + HONEY CHIPOTLE & SWEET HEAT (10 each) with SPICY RANCH & FYREBIRD DIPPING SAUCES (2 each). Initially, I was going to order a 12-piece set, but after a quick calc, the 30-piece family meal is a better deal & I can try 2 additional flavors. ヽ(*‿*)ノ Leftover chicken -- hot or cold -- also makes a tasty snack. Located just north of El Camino College (hence the 20% student discount enticement), the chicken joint sits in the cul de sac of a nondescript strip mall on Crenshaw & Manhattan Beach Blvds. Upon arrival, the parking lot was more than half full & there were nearly a dozen folks hovering near the restaurant's entrance. :-O I imagine quite a few parking spaces belong to guests at the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) office. There was a huge jug of hand sanitizer by the register, a new standard since COVID-19, but I do not have the impression of the cashier wearing gloves. I tried the fries at my car to determine its crispness since they may become soggy from the condensation during the long (20-min.) drive. They're definitely great fries! I tried the honey chipotle first... sweetness with a slight kick of smoky chipotle heat... f-i-n-g-e-r l-i-c-k-i-n' good!! So, so gooooood! =)~ I also liked sweet heat, though there wasn't much chili bite. And that Fyrebird dipping sauce! I could drink the stuff (not really)! The wings can be eaten by itself... add some Fyrebird... BAM! More yumminess than you can possibly imagine. They even go well with the fries. I also liked the spicy ranch dipping sauce for some tangy heat. What I really wanted to try was Cali Heat & Garlic Habanero, but my husband can't handle the chili spiciness & I can only eat so much chicken, however delicious. I gave my 10 YO the lemon pepper & original, & original to my 4 YO. H couldn't handle to lemony & peppery drumette, & dropped it on my plate. It was quite pungent in lemon & pepper... I like it! =D The original was quite plain & perfect for the kiddos. The crust was surprisingly crispy & wasn't affect much by the condensation. My husband loves fried chicken & really liked Fyrebird for their tasty chicken & variety of flavors! Lately, BLM has been a heated issue again & urging people to support black-owned businesses like Fyrebird. Alright, so what made me stumble on this fine hole-in-the-wall gem of the God-of-Wings establishment? Well, my bf and I were, naturally, on a Youtube extravaganza during this quarantine and watched a couple "Hot Ones" episodes. Needless to say, it made us crave for some good wings. Of course the first places we think of are chains like Wingstop... but we all know those are a huge hit-or-miss pertaining to quality and quantity (I personally haven't been for a couple years and from what I can remember, they weren't great). Also, we thought it was important to support local businesses right now. So a quick Yelp search and voila, Fyrebird pops up. The reviews were great, it was a quick drive away, and the pictures looked great. They also had a Grubhub deal of $10 off a $30 purchase from 5-9PM, which made it an attractive offer. It was unfortunate we couldn't find any pictures or information on the spice level of the wings, but we just decided to let nature take its course and pick what sounded tasty! And if we died of spice, well, at least we took it like a champ. We got an order of: 1. Two sliders (Sweet Heat and Cali Heat) = $5.50 2. 10 wings (Honey Chipotle and Garlic Habanero) = $10.50 3. 12 wings (Spicy BBQ and Buffalo) = $11.50 Each order of wings offered two sauces, so we chose Ranch and the Fyrebird on both for a total of 4 dipping sauces. With the Grubhub deal +tax, it was about $26 (before tip), which is a very fair deal. Location/ Parking (5/5): The store is located in a small strip mall on the corner of Crenshaw and Manhattan Beach Blvd right across El Camino College. There's plenty of parking. Ambiance (5/5): Inside, it wasn't much of a sit-down type place--more like a counter in the front to pay/ receive your order for take-out. Looked clean! Our order was ready when we got there at the estimated time listed. Food (4.5/5): So, like said, we didn't know the spice levels until we received our order and were given the take-out menu. With our luck, we just happened to order the Top 6 spiciest "flava's" they had to offer. For a white guy and Asian gal, I'd say our tolerance to spicy food is not terribly bad. We definitely enjoy and will appreciate some heat to our food, but probably won't cope too well on at least the last 3 sauces on "Hot Ones". Well, no going back now. Challenge accepted! 1. Cali Heat slider: The HOTTEST according to the ranks. This was the slider my bf chose. It was simply and deliciously HOT. Great kick that creeps up to you. My nose was sweating immediately from a bite of it. I recommend! 2. Sweet Heat slider: Fourth hottest according to the ranks. I chose this one and I was sure glad because yes, it was definitely on the more mild/ moderate spice level and it was enjoyable as well! Very savory and I highly recommend. I will definitely be ordering this as a "flava" for my wings next time! 3. Garlic Habanero wings: My partner and I both agreed this one was a bit of a let-down. It was ranked the second hottest. However, it lacked flavor. There wasn't any "garlic" taste and it was a tinge of sweet than anything. The flavor wasn't necessarily "bad" on the outside--it just simply lacked any definitive flavor and the chicken inside lacked taste because of it. 4. Honey Chipotle wings: Third hottest and we enjoyed it! The spice was right on and nothing too crazy, but definitely will get you perspiring. 5. Buffalo wings: Fifth hottest and tasted like a classic Buffalo--can't go wrong w/ ranch dipping! 6. Spicy BBQ wings: Sixth hottest and yup, definitely had a slight kick to it on top of the BBQ taste. 7. Fries: The quantity was generous and in our opinion, they resembled In-and-Out fries. They tasted great as well! 8. Ranch and Fyrebird sauce: I'm sure almost everyone knows the taste of Ranch, but yes they were great here as well. The Fyrebird sauce, in our best description, had a tinge of relish-like taste. It was creamy and complimented the wings/ fries well! Overall (4.8/5): Aside from the Garlic Habanero, everything was a HIT! The wings were juicy, the portions were abundant, the sliders were fantastic, and the quality was spot on. I can honestly say these were the best wings I've had from any establishment! What we ordered could easily feed 3 (maybe 4) people depending on your stomach capacity and appetite. THESE WINGS ARE HUGE! What I mean huge I mean they are the size that wings are supposed to be .... not the undersize wings that you get from franchise wing places. At first I was skeptical to try another wing place after the disappointment of the other wing places around the area but I'm so glad I tried Fyrebird via DoorDash! I've never actually been to this place so it is hard for me to say the parking situation but I've passed by it - it's across the street from El Camino College in a small shopping center parking lot. You can tell that these wings were carefully crafted and homemade. I've tried lemon pepper , barbecue and honey hot. All three were well sauced and you can order more sauces on the side for an extra 50 Cent. Might I also mention that the pricing on these wings is super reasonable. I mean probably one of the most reasonable in the area. I heard that a young man from a local high school started/owns this place so I decided to give them a try and patronize the business. Man, oh man! It is getting REALLY hard for me to pick a favorite wings spot in this area, and Fyrebird is making my choice even harder! We were craving wings on day and the place we had been wanting to try out was closed. My husband hopped on to find another wings place that looked good, and Fyrebird's "flavas" really spoke to us. We sprung for the 30-pack because why not? Holy cow! They pack a LOT of flavor into a small bite, and these wings are GENEROUS in size! The four flavors we got were Sweet Hot, Honey Hot, Honey Chipotle, and Garlic Parmesan. I will say that the Honey Hot is basically a buffalo flavor, which I don't typically enjoy but it's REALLY good quality if you like the taste of buffalo. I thought the Honey Chipotle would be my favorite, but by far the Best in Class was the Sweet Hot. I took the extra sauce at the bottom from that one and put it on all the rest! The Garlic Parmesan was great too with the spicy ranch. (Can you tell we're spice people?) I would definitely order from here again. The only thing that was kind of a bummer were the fries, which were a little too thin for my liking. But if you like those kinds of fries, then you're all set!
