Once I was able to get the permit, my contact Fabian, scheduled us to begin the next day. The removal of our old driveway, framing and grating took a full work day by a crew, led by Mark, that were there to work. I'm disabled and like to sit outside and was able to watch as professionals took care to build me a driveway that I too could be proud of, simply by It's commission. I say commission because after my city inspection, the true artistry began. I was able to watch as they plied their trade, working in harmonious rhythm almost hypnotically. . Even and slow, slowly working rock, grit, and water into position, waiting for the final face of the work. Skimming and cutting lines, floating a layer, that after a gentle brushing the final piece in its entirety reveals itself ,a masterpiece. The next morning I sat talking with the guys sent here to remove the framing and backfill. We talked about Soccer, their kids and their pride in their work. I told them they should be very proud because it was truly remarkable. They finished by giving me trade secrets on maintaining my artwork for as long as possible and ensuring as much debris, as possible, was removed from the site.and the street in front of our home. How can I alone determine a masterpiece you ask? I can't. But I can tell you. In the last days, I sit proudly on my front porch as neighbors greet me with "it's beautiful." I respond with "Thank you, I think so too." I know making a decision in today's economy where getting value for what you pay for can be difficult but if my testimony eases some of that stress, just remember this. Great Paving Company…read more Some time ago I needed to find a reputable paving company for a parking lot that I manage in Chicago. At the time I had to organize all this from the West Coast. After doing a lot of research I contacted Franklin Paving, a decision which turned out to be a very good one. They are incredibly diligent, are very responsive and quick to get back to you, and fair in their pricing. The challenging thing about any construction project is that unexpected things always turn up, requiring a certain flexibility and improvisational thinking, and such a thing did show up on the day of the paving. The office on the parking lot is a legacy structure, built on a very hard pedestal or platform, and we needed to eliminate any part of it that protruded into pedestrian space. A jackhammer did nothing to this sturdy structure from an earlier era. The head of this project, Angelo Ristich, and I had been in very frequent touch before and during the paving, and he quickly came up with a ready solution, on the spot, which was to build a gently sloping blacktop surface right up to the office. All of this was communicated and documented through the phone with photos, and the final result was perfect. Mr. Ristich is a real craftsman with great attention to detail, and that ready sense that the best construction people have. He brought a number of different construction skills into real focus on my project, giving me a true sense of satisfaction in the job. I must also commend Frank Miller who was in consultation with Mr. Ristich, and who manages Franklin Paving with true professionalism and integrity. I would not hesitate to recommend them, and intend to use them in the future.

Response: "I guess I can just look at it." We go to the backyard, he stand there and looks. First thing he says is "Do you want stamped?" Not a good sign when the first words out of his mouth are trying to upsell. I told him no, broom finish. He has no tape measure with him to measure the area. He didn't have anything else to say so I asked him how would they reinforce it? How would they slope it? I think this guy was a salesperson who probably never did concrete work. Then I had to bring up the subject of stairs. I work during the day and this guy is wasting my time with his lack of sales skills and knowledge. So then he goes to his car and write up an estimate for $4,400. Congrats, you are the highest bidder! On the estimate form it says something like "Material prices go up in June, labor prices in July". This is to motivate you to sign now. He offers no information about whether or not the company is registered with the village. He wrote on the form "Customer gets permit", something we didn't discuss. I ended up hiring Caesar Garcia Concrete Solutions from Cicero thru Home Advisor. Saved $1400 with them. True professionals. Forget Vander Veer.

We were concerned that the garbage truck would cause the asphalt to buckle when it stops to pick up the waste bins, and where thinking about having cement put down where the truck stops. Roy said it had held up for forty years and would not be needed. Less than two months later large buckles had already started to form in the new asphalt. After numerous calls Roy came out to look at it and said the area would have to be torn out because the base was not thick enough, they were the ones that put down the base. It sad when someone who knows little about the proper way to pave and trusted Roy the "expert" has to sue him in small claims court for a solution. See you in court Roy boy!

Somehow, Bronzeville finds a way to do it. Our previous snow removal provider would pile snow in front of the garages attached to our building. Bronzeville makes sure to keep the garage doors clear of snow and does a very complete job of clearing around the cars in the lot.
