I requested a quote for a 15' x 12' concrete patio. On a day with an all day rain, they send a a guy who is wearing sneakers, not workshoes. I told him it's muddy back there. Response: "I guess I can just look at it." We go to the backyard, he stand there and looks. First thing he says is "Do you want stamped?" Not a good sign when the first words out of his mouth are trying to upsell. I told him no, broom finish. He has no tape measure with him to measure the area. He didn't have anything else to say so I asked him how would they reinforce it? How would they slope it? I think this guy was a salesperson who probably never did concrete work. Then I had to bring up the subject of stairs. I work during the day and this guy is wasting my time with his lack of sales skills and knowledge. So then he goes to his car and write up an estimate for $4,400. Congrats, you are the highest bidder! On the estimate form it says something like "Material prices go up in June, labor prices in July". This is to motivate you to sign now. He offers no information about whether or not the company is registered with the village. He wrote on the form "Customer gets permit", something we didn't discuss. I ended up hiring Caesar Garcia Concrete Solutions from Cicero thru Home Advisor. Saved $1400 with them. True professionals. Forget Vander Veer. read more

My driveway was replaced in September of 2019. This Spring 2020 two significant cracks appeared, see photos. The one crack is at least 8 feet. There is one mid size SUV that uses this drive, nothing else. I began contacting Vander Veer through my homeowners association about my concern as did a neighbor who is experiencing serious pitting in her concrete. Both driveways were replaced at the same time. I realize concrete will begin to fail after years of use and weather conditions, we are talking 8 months and thousands of dollars. My request is simple, replace what has failed as clearly the concrete used at that time was somehow inferior. This has fallen on deaf ears and they feel that the "patch" is appropriate and proper. Would you want to your concrete work to look like this after that significant investment of money? I think not. With the freeze and thaw this will expand and create more issues. In May of 2018 I selected Vander Veer Concrete for a driveway replacement. I had other contractors submit bids and Vander Veer came in with the best bid. During the entire process, they were professional, courteous, and easy to work with. The removal and installation of the new driveway was done professionally and looked great. During the first winter I noticed a lot of pops and other imperfections with the material. I contacted Vander Veer and when the weather was conducive, they came out to survey the drive. After having them check it out, Reps from Ozinga Ready Mix and Ozinga's material supplier, Vulcan, inspected the drive. The end result was that Vulcan supplied Ozinga with inferior limestone and the stone was holding too much moisture and when freeze happened it caused the stones to pop and break the surface. Unfortunately, Vander Veer was unable to do anything about this, which is understandable as it wasn't their product. Sadly, neither Ozinga nor Vulcan would take responsibility for the inferior product that they supplied Vander Veer. Both companies just shrugged it off and basically said, "Not our problem." The popping of the inferior stone continues into the 2nd winter. I will definitely used Vander Veer for any future concrete needs, but I will request that they use materials from a supplier that will stand by their product. read more

This company did a large project for us in our backyard by removing a large deck right next to our Koi pond. They were extra careful and made sure no flying debris got in the pond. They helped to design a patio to replace the deck and to remove the aging flagstone in the walkway. The patio blended right into the new stamped concrete walkway with no steps except for the patio door entrances. They were many workers in order to get the job done quickly as well as expertly. Of course the concrete had to try before the color was added which took a bit longer through no fault of theirs due to the heavy rains we had. Choosing Van Der Veer was the best decision we could have made. Even the mom and dad came out to help. Very nice, friendly family business. read more

I had this company install my stamped concrete patio through Aqua Pools out of Homer Glen. The newly installed patio as of August of 2016 is cracking everywhere. I contacted Aqua pools and they were suppose to come out to my house with a rep from Ozinga (the company who supplied the concrete). I contacted Aqua early in summer about this issue and still no one to my house to address this problem. No Aqua, No Vander Veer and no Ozinga. The city of Frankfort has contacted them about this too. Nothing! Stay away from using all three companies. read more
