Variety is for sure, they have any random thing you could possibly want or need. Garden decor, bird feeders, toy guns, sun hats, coasters, kids toys, sunscreen, chimes, puzzles. Literally every imaginable thing possible. They have anything you would need during a winter or 4 season trip to Saint Joseph. It's a cross from a Ace, CVS, birds unlimited and Toyology back at home. Mainly an update for the earlier reviews: this store is exactly all that. A little bit of everything: personal care items for people at the Whitcomb or tourists who've forgotten their shampoo or toothpaste, small-scale gardening supplies for window gardeners, practical craft and scrapbooking supplies (sewing machine needles, buttons, tape, knitting needles, glitter, stamps), school/business supplies, stocking stuffers (I particularly like the little car models), tourist tat and just flat-out silly practical jokes. My father found a packet of 'Groucho Marx' noses/glasses for my birthday a few years ago, and I still treasure the photographs. I think they've stayed in business simply because they've managed to stay everything to everyone, and retain the nostalgic appeal to those who want a small-town 'little bit of everything' store. The first place you should go in downtown St Joe when looking for just about ANYTHING! Souvenirs, school supplies, seasonal items, socks, toys, you name it, they probably have it. Very affordable. Lots of character. St Joe has a lot of cute shops, but this one is the one that stands the test of time. read more

This store is literally the best! Anything you need they got it right here! I was in dire need of some chewing gum (particularly Big Red) one summer afternoon and I happened to be walking by. Considering it's called a variety store, I came to the conclusion that they most likely had what I was looking for. I walked in and was greeted by a handsome young gentleman who had red hair and was sporting an exquisite Seiko watch. After exchanging pleasantries and a little small talk, he directed me to isle 5 right where the chewing gum I was looking for was. This place has outright outstanding service and I cannot say enough about the knowledge and friendliness of their staff. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone looking for gifts, toys, candy or just to kill a little free time! read more

This place is so ridiculous.... In a good way. I love kitschy little shops like this, and it is a classic! They have a ton of stuff in there, mostly for tourists, but it is reasonably priced and a lot of fun. I highly recommend stopping by.... Although I live in Chicago, my family has been going to this store for 50+ years. It has had different names during that time but remains a priceless vestige of 1950s America. It seems as though it has EVERYTHING! Toys, hardware, clothing penny candy, school supplies, greeting cards, etc., etc. Each year when I return, I am delighted to see that it has survived another year of creeping modernization. Better than any tourist attraction, this place is not to be missed. And PLEASE buy something to keep a small piece of true Americana from fading away. read more

G & M Variety in St Joseph, MI; a old "5 & Dime" store that has prevailed since I moved here in 1979. It was a treasure then & now. Can't guess the number of times I was looking for something, just couldn't find it, would try here & boom there it was (: Headed there now to work on gift bags with Michigan items, they'll have it! Yeah, like finding the old plastic Army guys!!! They have it! I lost my antique cookie cutters due to water damage, they have the same ones. Old fashioned candy (: Kitchen items you remember & wish you had one...have made some of those finds too. Tin signs. Thank you for keeping this jewel alive. read more

G&M Variety dime store is a great place to visit if you are in the St. Joesph area. Located downtown, with wonderful products and great service, your experience in the store is sure to be enjoyable. We visit the area several times a year and always make sure to stop by to see what new items they have in store. They carry a bit of everything from toys and beach items to the last minute gifts and forgotten items from home. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Recently, after a visit to the store with my family, I left without purchasing an item I wanted as the gift recipient was in my group. I returned home and gave them a call. Gloria worked with me to place my order over the phone and shipped the item directly to me in a quick turn around time. The item was out of stock everywhere else online and my price was lower here than through the manufacturer. The extremely helpful and friendly customer service and outstanding staff will keep us as faithful visitors to the store every time we are in town. read more
