I was sweeping out around my garage door this morning - and managed to disturb with the broom - the wires that go to one of the garage door sensors that are mounted at floor level. As a result - the Liftmaster garage door opener would not open the door. So I jumped on Yelp and found a local, highly rated garage door contractor: G&S Garage Doors out of Chantilly, VA. Steve quoted me a $95.00 service fee to come out and diagnose the issue, plus inspect and "tune up" the garage door and system - which includes making sure all the nuts and bolts are tight - and applying lubricant to the appropriate friction points. I called them just after 12 noon - they had a technician out here by 2:30 pm. After looking things over - the tech determined I had jostled one of the wire nuts going to one of the sensors - he retightened the wires - and voila - my garage door was back to functioning properly. After lubricating the whole shebang - the whole system operated noticeably quieter. He advised that "Best Practice" is to lubricate the appropriate points - twice per year. He also pointed out a low-level squeak coming from the Liftmaster motor - there is apparently a plastic gear inside the unit - which means the motor may eventually fail. I'll wait until then to replace and upgrade the unit. Thankful for the quick response and turnaround on the repair and maintenance! A+! #GAndSGarageDoors read more

UPDATE: 7/2/19 G&S promptly responded to our concerns and adjusted the garage door at no additional cost. It is now functioning properly. We just had a new garage door installed. A few days later, the door won't stay closed. We had to sleep with our garage door slightly opened last night! We contacted G&S to express our concerns and they are trying to claim that there is something wrong with our garafe door motor. Now mind you, we had Company A come out to our house to provide us with an estimate for a new garage door replacement prior to hiring G&S. Company A confirmed that there is nothing wrong with our motor. We know for a fact that there is absolutely nothing wrong with our garage door motor by word of mouth from Company A. We decided to provide G&S an opportunity to earn our business since they offered us a slightly lower price than Company A. It appears that the limit settings are off and simply needs an adjustment. Hopefully, G&S will resolve this issue immediately at no additional costs to us. read more

I called just before 5pm to enquirer on setting up a time to fix my garage door which would not close properly and made a racket when opening or closing. Steve, the owner, said he could come by 7pm. He inspected all aspects of the garage door and mechanisms and made quick adjustments. During the inspections he pointed out that several of the rollers were bent and were a potential hazard. He gave me a reasonable quote to replace them, and came back the next day to do so. The door is working very smoothly now and I also eliminated a potential liability. Pros: The quality of the work and the employees is very good. Cons: Pricing and price gouging. I dealt with G&S on 2 occasions, and each time found the prices to be substantial for the work and parts involved. Spring replacement cost $275 for 1 spring -- on the phone it sounded like I was getting both springs replaced and only found out otherwise during the service visit. The technician offered to do the other spring for an additional $200 -- after I said 'no', he lowered the price to $100 five minutes later. Springs cost $28 and it takes about 15 minutes to install --- I feel the fair offer would have been to pay for the part plus some profit. Second interaction involved a faulty circuit board in our opener. 20 minutes to diagnose the problem, and then a return trip to install the new board (4 screws & 4 wires) which would have taken all of 10 minutes. Quoted $275 -- the part was only $75. A new opener is $178. Just say it's going to be a minimum $275 service charge. Summary: Quality of the work and knowledge of the technicians is very good. Pricing is very high. Ask a lot of questions to ensure you know what you're getting. 7/16/18 -- Update -- I have since had another firm look at the issue with my garage door and they quickly determined the problem. I finally have a working garage door again. My advice is to shop around before using G&S. read more

Nester came out and was very professional, he quickly identified the reason that my garage door wasn't functioning properly and provided a quote before begining the work. I asked for an extension for the labor warranty because I've had previous issues with the door, and Nester's boss approved - which is very nice. I did have one other estimate for the same repair and it was over $100 less than what G&S quoted me, but I needed the work done quickly and G&S was able to do that. Bad news when an old garage door spring snaps, tangles and the garage door won't open manually...and it happens at night. Called G&S at 8am, talked to Steve and he had someone working in the area that morning and that they could be there by 9am. Nestor called within the half hour, and let me know he'd be at my house by 9:30. He gave me an estimate on the repair, I asked about compatibility of the repair with a new door, I asked about the cost and timeframe for a new door...never any pressure either way...and I decided on a new door. Nestor got the old mechanism untangled and manually opened my garage door. Next morning, Nestor, Joel and another tech came to my house and installed a new door professionally and promptly and explained the workings and features of the door. Great service! Bottom line: Within 24 hrs (actually 25, but 24 just sounds better!) I had a beautiful new garage door. Wow! I had great service from G&S. My garage door and opener are about 3 years old, and due for a normal tune up and inspection. Since the company that installed it was out of business, I called G&S. They were able to do the tune up with less than a day's notice, which was nice. Their pricing on the tune up was very reasonable, and the technician, Nester, was very professional. Nester noted that the torsion spring wasn't properly adjusted by the original company, and explained that the motor would fail early if that wasn't corrected. So, he corrected it while he was here for a reasonable price (that's not normally included in the tune up). I would definitely recommend them based on that experience. read more

Mid morning I pushed the garage door close button. It went down half way, stopped, and returned to the up position. Upon closer inspection I noticed that one of the main attachment points behind the torsion spring had come loose from the wall and was hanging up against the garage door opener track. I called G&S and (this is rare in nVA) they answered they phone immediately and said they could be at my house this afternoon, and they provided a rough/basic cost estimate on the phone. Exactly at the promised time, Steve from G&S called and said he was ten minutes away. When he arrived, he explained what the problem was, and additionally pointed out other problems with the original door install (only a few years old...sigh....different installer....lesson learned). He set to work and when he was finished, the door was perfectly balanced, well lubed, and working smoothly (and most importantly....SAFELY!). I found Steve to be skilled, professional, polite, and their prices were reasonable given the amount of work that was required, and the quick response time. If I could give them more stars I would. I had a very difficult challenge with little clearance on either side or on top of the door, The original side mount openers installed 30 yrs ago failed soon after they were installed and no other options were available at the time so we used the door manually. Over the years we contacted multiple local garage door companies and every time were told the same thing, "Sorry we would like to help but can't as the clearance limitations won't let any opener on the market work. One other company that will remain nameless came out, thought they had a solution but were rude and would not give a contract prior to starting the work. We sent them packing. As a last ditch effort prior to giving up I saw the G&S add in the local Home Mag and called. They came out that day and took pictures. Within 2 to 3 days I had a working opener with all the options needed. Great warranty and to top it off each and every company representative I spoke with was courteous, knowledgeable and efficient in delivering a high quality professional service. It was 4:00P and I was getting ready for my 7A flight tomorrow morning when my garage door broke closed with my car inside. I immediately called the company that installed the door and their phone was out of service. Finding G&S Garage Doors online, I called Steve, the owner, for help. He asked, "Tonight or Tomorrow morning?" He didn't even give me a chance to tell him I was in a bind. Steve arrived at 8:00P after working all day. He saw that my two springs broke, then searched his truck for two new ones. I was in luck, he had the parts, replacing both, then fine tuning the entire door.
