Very clean and organized facility. It's so handy to back up to the dry roomy building especially if is raining Just grab a cart and load your metal into it out of the rain. I brought in some pipes to sell. I called a few times to ask for assistance on how to prep them for the best price. From the start, everyone I talked to was helpful. They gave me a fair price and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Those guys were hustling the whole time and I was not the only one there. Very efficient, clean parking lot and so helpful. I believe that many people don't take full advantage of the metal recycling process for a lack of knowledge. Sure, we all know to put the aluminum cans in the machine at the grocery store to redeem the deposits, but what about other types of metal? It certainly seems abusive to the environment to just throw it in the garbage, but who has the time and talent to make sense of your odd pile of metallic cast-offs? G&S Scrap Metal. It's a very simple process. Drive around to the back of the facility and back your car up against one of the open bay doors. There is a photo associated with this listing that illustrates this part of the building. Someone will see you backing up and will direct you in terms of where exactly to pull in and how far. Most times you will see someone else engaged in this process as you arrive, so just follow the lead of the more seasoned scrappers. Once your in, the associates will help you unload, identify and weigh your scrap. The workers at G&S are very personable which might stand in contrast to the preconceived notions some folks might hold regarding the friendliness of metal recyclers. They are happy to answer your questions about recycling and on more than one occasion they have pointed out certain items amongst my haul that were made of more valuable metal and therefore should be weighed individually to get a better price. Please note that they did so with no prompting on my part and I would have been happy just to lump it all together and take the lowest rate. I recycle for the environment, not for my own personal financial gain, but nonetheless the folks at G & S will insist on giving you a fair deal. When the unloading, identifying and weighing is done, you will see the foreman (Tony as of the last time I was there) who will pay you in cash and give you a receipt. Please note that you will need to show ID to recycle as a deterrent to scrap metal theft. For household scrap loads this is a quick and efficient process. Keep in mind that you are entering a metal recycling facility which means it will be noisy, but besides that it is really no different than bringing your cans back to the grocery store. No load is too big or too small and there is really no excuse for throwing metal in the garbage when these guys will recycle it for you AND pay you a couple of bucks to do it. This is my first time recycling metal (other than cans). I had no clue what to do, but was greeted by Tony as I walked aimlessly into the facility. He was very helpful and got me on my way to the weigh station. From there I was directed into the metal yard where Len helped me unload my truck. He was extremely knowledgeable and helped point out some brass piping I didn't know I had! Everyone I encountered was friendly and approachable. Been there many times over the years. In the days of high scrap prices there usually was a line.The workers were sullen and the staff rude.Never an explanation of how your stuff was being graded.Just grunts and surly instructions.The latest experience was today.Virtually deserted due to low scrap prices.The same guy was there grunting his was through vague instructions.One thing you can always count on is a price that never comes up to what you see on line.And the guy usually rounds the price for ease of calculation cause he does not routinely use a calculator. The rounding appears down judging from on line prices and you can bet that saves the company a ton in the course of a year. read more
