Sing-Sing Himart - My fave ice cream

ZERO STARS. Dropped by Sing-Sing HiMart in Clark to grab ingredients for bibimbap. I'm a regular…read morecustomer. Opened my purse to get my glasses so I could read a label. Apparently, that was enough to earn a full time security escort. Every aisle I went to, the guard was right behind me. So I finally asked, "Are you following me? Do I look like a shoplifter?" Silence. Stuttering. No eye contact. I told the manager it's pretty bold to treat paying customers like criminals and still expect them to spend money. They lost a sale today. More importantly, they lost a loyal customer. Keep the groceries. I'll take my business somewhere that won't treat me like a thief.

This is not the same as Kim's Sing Sing Mart on the next block…read more Sing Sing Himart is not that big, but they do know how to make the most of their space. It's bright, clean, well stocked, organized, and with several parking spaces out front; the best part is that it's open 24/7. I can find many of my favorite items here: Gardenia bread, Melona ice cream, yogurt drinks, seaweed snacks, and frozen dumplings at cheap prices. Their produce looks fresh and their meat section doesn't smell. Staff are helpful but don't look too happy. In the back left corner there is a decent size household section. New arrivals and best selling items are marked with signs COOL! There are two working price scanners. Many cashier lines are open and there's no waiting during the daytime on weekdays. This is my favorite Korean Grocery Store in Korea Town.

landers was pretty awesome as my first visit!…read more To my surprise they had much less portion than they do in the states, and they also had items from Costco's. Although the service was not as good as I thought, the ambience, pretty much served as if it was a Costco, but in the Philippines Their bakery selection is also pretty good, I recommend the chocolate flan tarts

We go there mainly for bread and chicken, the last time we saw Tillamook Ice Cream from the states for the first time, unfortunately it had been thawed and refrozen so many times it was no longer Ice Cream but Iced Cream, it had ice crystals throughout, such a disappointment, also they had very little bottled water. The person doing the orderting and logistics here needs to be fired and they need to hire someone that can do the job. The store even with all its promotions and such actually has no concern for the quality of the merchandise and no sense of customer service or making sure their customers get the freshest and best merchandise, they just want to make $$. If it wasn't for a couple of items we do like we would never go there again.

Kang's Korean Grocery - Kang's Korean Grocery along Valero Street

If you live or work in Salcedo Village, the best place to get your fix of Melona Ice Cream, Maxim Coffee, or gochujang (hot pepper paste) is Kang's Korean Grocery. Their main store is in Valero Street, but they have opened a smaller branch along Bautista Street. Both stores are within Salcedo Village. Kang's has a wide selection of Korean food and other products. Whenever I crave for kimchi or gochujang, their Valero shop has become my go-to place. Apart from Korean products and goodies, Kang's also sells fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat products. In fact, I'd also pop up in their store during emergencies when my own pantry has ran out of garlic, tomato, onions and other essential cooking ingredients. I choose this grocery even if there are so many 24-hour convenience stores and a Rustan's Supermarket in the vicinity. The reason: Kang's has that unsophisticated atmosphere expected in a neighborhood store. You can even chat with the friendly owners if they happen to be present. Talk about a sari-sari store ambiance in Makati CBD!

This quick stroll, I always manage to find a dessert excuse to top off my indulgent meal. I like going in to Kang's Korean grocery to find myself some delicious Melona or funny looking red bean ice cream. There are also other snacks you can horde or give to friends so its always a good idea to swing by this small yet so convenient mini grocery store. The staff are usually nice but sometimes can't be bothered to help out. They also sell some fresh produce, bottled drinks, noodle cups, and many other curious things worth experimenting and trying out. Usually I would just stick to one or two Korean ice cream treats but more often than not, I am with enabler friends who also like to buy different things. Prices are moderate and well-worth the taste bud adventure!

Holy shit. WANG MART. THE PLACE IS CALLED WANG MART. I know I shouldn't laugh, but seriously. WANG…read moreMART. Oh my God. Can you believe it oh my god it's called wang mart this is awesome. Think about it for a second. What's the first thing you buy when you go to Korean grocery stores? ICE CREAM POPSICLES. I'll just leave it at that. Let's put my 15 year-old wang jokes aside (okay, I'm still gonna make a few more so be prepared) So I passed by this place on my way home from work a few days ago. It was a hella hot day, and I just came from commuting, so I thought "Why not get some Melona?" So yeah, I ended up getting Melona, which tasted great as usual. However, I decided to look around the place for a little while so I could stare at signs I didn't understand. So they literally have Korean everything. And by everything, I mean seriously goddamn everything. Korean liquor, Korean coffee, Korean noodles, Korean chips, Korean ketchup, Korean cold cuts... basically, it's like they ripped a grocery straight from Korea and brought it here. The only things missing were terrifyingly white Korean pop stars and I would've thought I was in Korea. Seriously, if you're thinking of cooking anything Korean or with Korean flavors, I promise that the assortment of stuff here will be more than enough. If you need some delicious Korean satisfaction, Wang Mart is definitely the place for you. Get ready for a whirlwind of delicious Korean flavor in your mouth!

"Wang Mart? Does that mean you can buy wangs in there?"…read more Aside from the fact that Wang Mart has the uncanny ability to bring out my inner 12 year-old boy alter-ego, it's a great and well-stocked Korean grocery that's open late - specifically until 2AM (perfect for those of you stumbling out of Handlebar or H&J and looking for cheap snacks to sober up after a night of hard partying). The high ceilings and large space ensure that this grocery carries almost all the basic Korean goods you need. From fresh kimchi, frozen meat cut, spices, ice cream, junk food and other assorted groceries, Wang Mart is one of my favorite Korean groceries in the metro. The best is that they always have freshly-made kimbap at the counter, which, to me, is the ultimate plus when it comes to visiting Korean groceries!
