The woman who initially answered the phone rudely told me she couldn't see my child at that office and they couldn't open a new chart for her and tried to dismiss me; this was specifically after being told by the North Brunswick office that the treatment my daughter needed could only be done in the Greenbrook location. After calls going back and forth between North Brunswick and Greenbrook, Greenbrook finally called and said they would see my daughter, but I had to register her as a new patient, for whatever reason they would not transfer her file. It finally comes time to make her appointment and there are insurance issues. The office was completely unhelpful in trying to resolve them. The issue is finally resolved, and I made an appointment for my daughter two weeks or more ahead of schedule. I called to confirm the appointment, confirm the insurance, and let them know a different family member would be taking her. My family member showed up with my daughter only to be told they wouldn't see her- again because of insurance. When I called to find out what was going on, I asked to speak to the office manager or the person who handled the insurance, which I know to be a woman. Instead, after some whispering the young man who answered the phone came back on claiming to be said person. I was then told that someone tried to contact me and cancel the appointment but my mailbox was full. There were NO MISSED CALLS of any kind, my voicemail box WAS NOT FULL, and even if that were the case there is a secondary number and email to reach me. Smile Express knew full well their contract with HBCBS would be ending September 1, and my appointment was scheduled for September 2. Their attempt to contact me was on August 29th. This office is full of nothing but disrespectful liars and I pray that no one continues to use them.

I'd originally been told by my dentist that I had a canker sore, but Dr. Brown identified it correctly as a cyst. She explained everything thoroughly during my consultation, which helped put me at ease. The patient registration process was detailed, especially regarding medications--something I really appreciated since I have certain allergies. That level of care meant so much to me. On surgery day, once I was numbed up, I was good to go--LOL! Dr. Brown kept checking on me throughout the procedure. I felt completely safe and cared for, and her assistant was equally attentive. The follow-up was excellent, too. I received a call today asking how I was feeling. I mentioned the soreness, which was expected, and that I'd be sleeping in the recliner for a few days, skipping my CPAP for a bit. I have the highest regard for Dr. Akeyla Brown and her entire staff. They are professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. It was an incredibly positive experience, and I wholeheartedly recommend Riverside Oral Surgery to anyone in need of expert oral care.

I had previously visited another surgeon who was overcharging simply because they knew the pain I was in, but thankfully, I found Riverside. Dr. Richer was hilarious, made me feel completely comfortable, and gave a detailed explanation of my X-rays. The entire staff at Riverside was just as kind and funny, which truly made the whole experience so much better--especially for something as unpleasant as wisdom tooth surgery. When I went in for my procedure, they even gave me a free shirt, which was both hilarious and thoughtful. After surgery, they provided a head wrap and an ice pack, adding to the overall wonderful experience. Small touches like these really matter and show the level of care and thought Riverside puts into their patients. My husband and I paid over $5,000 to have his wisdom teeth removed. We signed a treatment plan for…read moreone thing and were charged for far more. The surgeon did discuss what he planned to do, so it doesn't seem it was a "something came up during surgery" deal, but several things were not listed on the treatment plan we signed with a price. My husband was told to take Tylenol and Ibuprofen after having impacted wisdom teeth removed which was the anestheisologist's decision to be fair. When I called the office because he was considering the ER due to the pain, a nurse, over the phone, insisted it could not be dry socket. She did not see my husband, is not the physician, and felt it was appropriate to give medical advice over the phone. I requested he see another surgeon in a different location (same practice). It was dry socket. The surgeon in West Orange was fantastic. The communication in West Caldwell left a lot to be desired. After the correct antibiotic was given and he was treated for the complication, we thought we were all clear. We went on with our lives and then received a bill the other day for just under $1200. I spoke with billing, I spoke with the office, and honestly, legal fees would be more expensive. I understand "things happen in surgery" and if our insurance covered this we might not have to pay it, but we couldn't ask insurance if it was covered because it was not what we signed up for. I honestly do not feel it was a change, because he mentioned a bone graft being part of the plan all along. I do not recommend the West Caldwell office. This was such a disaster and we finally could breathe and now we can't again. I would recommend the West Orange office. Dr. Brown in West Orange was excellent, and the surgeon our dentist requested him to see in the paperwork he sent over. I only wrote down the name of the office, not the surgeon he recommended so that was ignored on the paperwork when Riverside received it. The surgeons are fine, the West Caldwell office doesn't have it together so be prepared to do their job while you pay them far more than you agreed to.

In February 2025, I developed horrible tooth/gum pain. My previous dentist stopped taking my insurance & failed to tell me this until I called about an outrageous bill. The next dentist in my area wasn't taking patients for two weeks. I contacted this office (of oral surgery) & was told that Dr. Rannucci was on vacation but his partner oral surgeon was there & I could make an appointment. I specifically asked the young lady on the phone if he not only "pulled teeth" but if he also did general dentistry & she assured me that "he does everything" so I made my appointment. The appointment was for the next day, and early in the morning. I was there on time but imagine my surprise when I spent 20 mins of my "appointment time" listening to the hygienist (a middle aged Caucasian woman with straight dark hair mixed with gray) & the oral surgeon (believe his name is Cappetta.) talking about me & how they would not be able to handle my "care" unless it was to do an extraction. I guess they thought tooth pain made me lose my hearing also. Anyway, they called me to the window & the oral surgeon was pretty dismissive & borderline rude. There was a little back and forth because I was given false information. If he didn't do "general dentistry" and he kept saying I needed a referral. (According to my dental plan I do not need a referral to go to any practice.) why is his office staff stating he does. They wasted my time & I had to both take a day off of work AND get there for before 8am. Ultimately he suggested I go to my old dentist and get a referral but ended up giving me the name of two dentists in my plan that I could call & telling me that after I see them, if I need oral surgery I can "come back here". They couldn't even give me the courtesy of calling those dentists and seeing if they could squeeze me in, due to my high level of pain. I ended up leaving because there was nothing else to do. Also I want to mention that the day I made the appointment I was told I HAD to give a $100 deposit just to see them. Which I did but I made them refund my money. All the while the young lady at the reception desk did my refund request she was smirking. This review may have never happened if I hadn't spoken to my best friend and she tell me she ALSO had a poor customer experience with this office and that same surgeon. She also knows of two additional people that experienced the same. So clearly, this is a pattern. I would sincerely recommend thinking long and hard about coming here unless you like to be mishandled by a doctors office. Sort of a buyer beware situation This is why I do not and would never recommend this office.
