Severely disappointed today. Almost 45 minutes with no food menu and got my drink order wrong twice. Just wanted a aguachile michelada (they are fire!!!) and couldn't get it right, TWICE! Wanted to get the breaded chicken with the green spaghetti (another item that's delicious!), but no one paid me any attention even after my first beer was GONE. Barely touched my side of the bar. The food and drinks at Gabriela's were amazing! I got the birria tacos and they were absolutely delicious. The drinks were also so fun and creative, which made the experience really enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service was pretty disappointing. Our waitress, Samantha, was great and very attentive at the beginning, but after a while it became really difficult to get her attention. She took quite a long time to come back to our table, and even after we flagged down another waitress and asked her to have Samantha come over, it still took a while. We also asked for some chips to go, but Samantha never came back with them. Our bill was over $200 and included an automatic 18% gratuity. Normally, I wouldn't have an issue with that, but with the service being lacking for a good portion of our visit, it was frustrating to have that added automatically. Nope nope nope. Sorry, Gabriela's. When we walked in, the young men manning the host stand seemed like high school boys chatting between classes. The menus were not clean, a bit sticky. They were only offering a limited number of things from the menu because it was Sunday. (Maybe have a separate menu for Sundays?). The food was not good- honestly like food from an old diner a health inspector hadn't visited in a while. The ambiance was more like a deserted sports bar. I've been here a few times with my friends. This place is pretty hype-ey/instagrammable. It gets RIDICULOUSLY loud sometimes, to the degree I couldn't hear people I'm with and we have to scream at each other. The food is pretty good. I like the oysters and ceviche. Chips were a tad stale though. Many fun cocktail options. Which is the best part of the whole experience to me. Service is friendly. But past the couple of times our servers were not very attentive, even though we went at not so busy times. The location is very far off from central Austin/downtown. Caught the tail end of happy hour so ordered a Paloma and Margarita along with the choriqueso. Drinks were good, strong but not overwhelming. The choriqueso was delicious and portion was big enough to have as an actual meal. Portions overall were very generous which I know we all can appreciate these days for the price. My son really liked the flavor of the kids quesadilla with beef fajita meat and the tortillas were fresh. We ended up bringing home half of both our meals and the leftovers were just as good. They were setting up for a band when we were leaving- it was a Thursday night I believe. It looks like they get busy later in the evenings with the live music. Stopped in Gabriela's South Austin on Tuesday night about 7pm. The restaurant was not busy. Decor is very vibrant and color. Think pink flamingos and blue waves. Server seated us fairly quickly. We waited about five or so minutes and then our server came by with the menus and asked us about drinks. We were with the little person so we refrained but the specialty here appears to be their extensive drink menu. While waiting on the server to come back to take our order, I started reading yelp reviews and everything, everyone else said, is true. The food is bland no seasoning. Our queso dip came out cold. The food came out super quick after we ordered but it clearly had been prepped hours ago and tossed together. My al pastor pork was tough and rubbery with no sweet citrus flavors. My poblano taco was charred and limp and lacked any taste. The hubby had beef short ribs that were definitely not freshly cooked, 1/2 fresh and 1/2 reheated. Even seasoned differently across ribs. My son got chicken tenders and fries which the fries were barely cooked and tasted of old grease. Our server was not attentive after the food came so my husband didn't get a water refill until we were about to go and she just came and put the pitcher on our table and left. She seemed sweet and polite, just not attentive. Also they don't have a kids menu option (just chicken tenders or a quesadilla) and she never brought my son a drink either so I had to share my water. Overall not likely to return unless just meeting up with friends for a drink. I thought when I came here it would be like the location in the Domain (that closed) but they are very very different. read more

A friend and I went on a Saturday around 1-3pm. The first thing we noticed was that the music was SUPER loud- I mean can't hold a conversation at your table loud. I get it's going for a fun kind of clubby vibe but it was almost empty and during broad daylight We both ordered the Birria and they were honestly nothing to write home about. I've definitely had better from taco trucks for wayyy cheaper. The one meal alone cost $18, no drinks, no apps. I would say it's definitely not worth it for just the food however the drinks looked super fun so maybe that's the experience I'm missing out on. One any given weekday there are always open tables so there's not waiting. The weekends are definitely much more busy and there's usually a wait for tables. My margaritas have been too salty/sour at times, not the best margs in town. The bacon wrapped jalapenos are a hit or miss with the heat levels. It probably depends on the season. The ceviche pescado playero was more limey than I had expected since it was in a red sauce. My favorite dish has been the camarones encabronados, the spicy sauce the shrimp is in was delicious! The place is definitely instagrammable with all of the neon lights and fun wallpaper. One certain days they have DJs and karaoke which is fun to watch and listen to! Full disclosure: Southpark Meadows is never a dining destination, it's usually a matter of convenience if I dine here. Today, it was a destination. After I saw the owner profiled on KXAN, I was happy to give my business to this place. I had no idea what to expect, but when I saw that it was a Mexican-owned, woman-owned establishment - and that she has roots in the RGV - the food just had to be OK for it to be worth my time. Spoiler - it was better than OK. First and foremost, homemade corn tortillas. Good ones, at that. Not enough places go through the trouble to do this, but when done right, it's a great touch. Here, it's done right. I had the Rajas con Crema and was fully satisfied with its execution. It was not something I expected to see on a menu here (as in Austin), so I will definitely be back now that I have a spot for this personal favorite. My daughter had the Steak Gringas and really enjoyed them. I tried them, and it was one of the most McAllen things I've ever tasted in Austin. I can't explain it, but IYKYK. My wife enjoyed her Mole enchiladas - it was a generous serving and it will probably be my breakfast tomorrow. No complaints there. The aesthetic here is a bit much for my aging GenX eyes. My teen daughter dug it, though, and that's worth it for me. If I like the food and she thinks it's cool, that's a win/win. As for the service, it was exceptional. The waitress was not only polite and professional but genuinely friendly. She shared with us how much she likes working here and that the management here respects and backs up the wait staff. I will happily return here just knowing that. All in all, it exceeded all expectations for a Thursday night escapade. I will definitely be back and bring friends and family along. Our server was completely inattentive. we had to ask for silverware and napkins after our food was already sitting in front of us. When I asked to modify my order due to an avocado allergy, the server made a face like it was a huge inconvenience, which was both unprofessional and unnecessary. We were then ignored for the rest of the meal. At one point, I even asked another server for help--loud enough to be heard--and was still completely ignored, which says a lot about the level of service here. We ended up waiting around 30 minutes just to get the check and finally had to track someone down because our server had completely disappeared. I've visited Gabriela's a couple of times and I loved it for a different reason each time. I initially visited in 2021, either for drinks, the music or the food. The last time I visited was Thursday, May 9th, 2024 with a large party. It was a blast both of the times I visited. I always feel like I came on the right day (both were Thursdays). As you enter, you're immediately stricken with a pop-style Miami-type vibe as the colors and neon lights jump off the walls and ceilings. The furniture, décor and design of the area isn't unique but, the array of plants, TV's in every direction with a mix of booths, bar stools and tables, it still has an authentic Mexican feel with an elevated ambiance. The waiting area is ever-so quaint but considering how busy it gets, they really maximize the space. Apparently Thursday nights are the best day to go. There's live music of some sort: whether it's a DJ, a band or a mix of both. You'll get dinner, a show and they clear the standing room so you can even dance! Outside of the direct service and beautiful guests that they host, their menu is all inclusive. As a true authentic restaurant, they have a variety of Mexican dishes. If Spanish isn't your first language, then choosing may be difficult but don't be shy! The menu is gringo-friendly with an English description of each item. They also have a selection of more common plates as well. I've enjoyed the Emmoladas de Pollo and Choriqueso. The mole sauce on the Emmolada was made excellently but it wasn't savory (as the dish isn't) but the meal was still great. I recall the Choriqueso as being amazing! Best of all are the drinks! You can't leave without trying at least one of their cocktails, for under $10?? The Margarita Flight is worth every penny. They're beautifully presented and they taste even better. Also, you can't go wrong with any margarita on the menu, as expected! Gabriela's is a true staple. This is the only location I'm familiar with and they're doing everything right. It's a great gathering place for fun, hunger and culture. The music is great, the people are wonderful and the location is versatile. The "chorizado" appetizer was excellent, with a slightly chrisp bottom on the cheese and house made corn tortillas. As our standard practice at a new place, we both had enchiladas. Beef was seasoned perfectly and with unique spice highlights. Hubby had rhe chicken and the dill crema sauce was on another level. "Best chicken enchiladas I've ever had" Service as friendly and the restaurant is brightly colored. Inviting and fun experience. You can also order alacart items like a taco or other to round out your meal or family order. And the bar is tambien! In Texas ice in drinks matters...
