I found out about The Shop from my middle school basketball coach, and initially started training with Mike to put on some muscle and maybe get a little quicker on my feet so I would be competitive in high school basketball. Fast forward four years, and I intend to dedicate the rest of my life as a dietitian to helping others become healthy and reach their goals, the same way Mike help(s)(ed) me reach mine. I went from 114 lb. "skinnyfat", one of the most unathletic people on the face of the planet to 150 lb and being the strongest kid on the team in less than a year. Put in the work, and Mike will help you learn, push you on days when you're not feeling it and reach your goals. In a field where so many are inept, Mike lives the lifestyle, (thought he was absolutely massive when I first met him, still do) is super knowledgeable, and doesn't give you pseudoscience b.s. that so many others do. This is review for powerlifters since that's my general workout. I have no views of group classes or cardio machines (although there appears to be plenty of machines and different options available). They have 3 lifting platforms with olympic weights. Feels good to be finally able to do heavy deadlifts without worrying about the floor giving out (at Summit, they had some issues of the floor weakening since it was above the locker room floor). There are plenty of dumbells, pre-weighted ez bars and straight bars, and some hammer type machines (although I think the brad is different). They also have a full section of sled pulls, battle ropes, tire flip, etc. which is kind of fun and way I get my cardio in my workouts. I workout early in the morning and the gym is not that crowded. If you come about 30 minutes late, you may have to wait for a squat rack to open, but overall I never had to wait to use a lifting station. Others have mentioned the loud music, and I agree that they do turn up the music a bit too loud, but I usually have my sound absorbing headphones on and it doesn't bother me too much. Places like the YMCA is great if you need other facilities like swimming pools, basketball courts, etc., but for pure weightlifting, I think Fitness Factory is a great facility and price is much cheaper as well.

When I started coming here just over a year ago, the gym was always spotless, and members wants/needs were being met. The locker rooms are severely due for an upgrade. Residential appliances in the restroom, and a sauna that's consistently filthy with wooden panels coming up/missing. The steam room has been broken for years, and the lockers are cramped and awkward. Overall I love this gym and community, just wish whoever is in charge would take a little more care of the facilities given the price of membership.

The Strength Experiment was convenient, less than a mile from my house so I figured I would check it out...what did I have to lose. I grabbed 2 friends and walked in scared. We were met by Jared the owner and trainer for the gym, yes he and his down and dirty gym were a bit intimidating for this Spin girl, but we all signed up for a week membership. By the end of my first week I knew this is where I needed to be. All though it is a group training experience with the work out written on the board for everyone to do. You are never left to do anything yourself. Jared sees all and always provides and makes you feel like you have a one on one experience. NO it is NOT cross-fit! I've done that before and came out with a pulled back and sore shoulder after the first month. It's not about finishing in an hour or get your reps done in 2 minutes..it's about the right form, it's about increasing your strength, feeling strong and being apart of an amazing, non intimidating gym! Unfortunately, my experience with the pickleball program has been extremely disappointing. While the facility itself is beautiful, the culture on the pickleball courts is the opposite of what I expected from a premium club. The staff came across as gatekeepers rather than customer service professionals. Instead of making members feel welcome, I often felt as though they were deciding whether I was "allowed" to play. As a paying premium member, I should not feel like participation is a privilege granted by staff. The skill assessment process is another major concern. Members are required to pay for an assessment to access different levels of play, yet there is little transparency about how ratings are determined. In my experience, the results did not reflect actual on-court performance, and there was no meaningful explanation of the evaluation criteria. A player can compete successfully against intermediate-level players and still be placed in the beginner category without a clear explanation. A transparent, objective rating system would be much fairer. Reservations can also be canceled without meaningful notice or explanation, making it difficult for members to plan their schedules. After speaking with other members, I found that several expressed similar frustrations about the management of the pickleball program. People join Life Time because it is a premium club, and the membership fees reflect that. Members deserve professionalism, respect, transparency, and consistent customer service. The facilities are outstanding, but the management and customer experience of the Bridgewater pickleball program fell far short of the standards I expected.

Gave SLT a shot while visiting my in laws for Fourth of July, because I do Pilates…read morefor cross training 3-4 times a week and wanted to stay consistent while on vacation for a few days. I had done two Lagree classes prior to trying SLT as well as a Solidcore class at one of their LA studios. I opted for SLT this time only because they had a 2/$40 intro deal which was a little more cost effective than paying the drop in rate at the Solidcore studio nearby. I showed up for my first of two classes, and the reception girl was nice and gave me a refresher on the megaformer but warned me "you'll be lost and that's okay". She actually advised me to "copy others" if that became the case. That should have been my sign to leave, as Lagree and Pilates are both about having proper form, not just "copying" another participant which can lead to injury. If your cueing is that bad where participants are "lost," perhaps you shouldn't market it as an "all levels" class. Then I find out the instructor I had signed up for was switched to Farah, which should have been my second sign to leave. Dang, was she is rough. And not in a good way. She's forceful, impatient, and comes off very pompous. She actually had us hold movements to a beat at one point, like what? You're supposed to count at a steady pace; what instructor worth their salt coordinates the movements to their playlist? I spent the first 20 minutes debating on whether I should just walk out before I decided to ignore her vibe and just sweat it out. Instead of leaving empowered to take on my day, I left demoralized and disappointed. Then I took Alexandra's class on my second of two visits, and it was night and day. She's truly the only reason I'm giving SLT 3 stars and not 1. She was the saving grace, as she offered fantastic cues and did good demonstrations that were easy to follow. If I'm "copying" anyone, it should be the trained instructor. Alexandra was also attentive to everyone and offered gentle corrections when needed. She was courteous and asked if I'm okay with hands-on corrections, which I appreciated as well. I thanked her for turning my experience at SLT around and left her class feeling strong and inspired. Can't say I'd ever go back to SLT though. I prefer studios that are a bit more professional and prioritize safety and form. Since those two classes, I racked up 6 more Lagree classes in California on top of my normal Pilates routine. Yet to have any experience get close to rivaling the awful class I had with Farah, and I vow to walk out of any instructor's class that times a movement to "when the beat drops."

The coach was very good at constantly coming up to me and correcting form and pointing out when I wasn't listening/ understanding cues correctly- even your BRAIN needs to be turned on and ready to listen cause it's ALOT ! Hope they come to DC one day !
