One star is about 5 stars too many for this place…read more I should have listened to my instincts when I first arrived here. The guy at the counter (store manager Mike Kearing) printed off my work order and told me to take it out into the shop (watch my step) and give it to the shop manager. Normally shops do not allow customers into the service area. Apparently the guy at the counter is too lazy to bring the work order into the shop. So I bring out the work order. The guy out there says "white letters in or out". I said out. He said "your husband must clean your tires". Really? Should that be any concern of his who cleans my tires? Over $87 to change 2 tires when the site I bought the tires from quotes $58 for them to do the job. The store manager (or owner, not sure which-the guy at the counter) claimed it took well over an hour to change tires that size (315/75R16), claimed they were a real pain (how would he know when he can't even get out of his chair to deliver a work order). Funny thing, just one week ago I had 2 rear tires plus my spare(so 3 tires) of the same size changed at Laplante tire in massena and it didn't even take 1/2 hour. Store manager couldn't find my keys when I left.....he had one of the young mechanics take me into the shop to find my keys". The 2 young mechanics (one of them was kind enough to tell me his positive experience with tires just like I bought) looked in the shop-no keys. They went back out and found my keys right on the store manager's desk right by his keyboard where he was sitting and couldn't find them. This place is a sad joke. So I was mad enough about just getting totally ripped off by this skeevy place, but it gets better. On the way home, my truck seemed to pop out of gear (it's an automatic) and every gear including reverse now acts like neutral. I had to get towed the rest of the way. My truck has never had transmission problems so it is quite the coincidence this happened before I even made it home from this sketchy garage. I'm assuming they knocked a wire or sensor loose, but who knows. So I have a truck sitting in my yard with new tires but now it won't go anywhere. I also have a much larger credit card charge than I should have had. STEER CLEAR OF POTSDAM TIRE! This place is creepy and a complete rip off. Update-I noticed yesterday this place also trashed one of my tires that would have been a perfectly good spare. What kind of "tire shop" can't break down a tire without trashing the bead? This place should be out of business.

The Long Version: I'm a bit hesitant to write this review, because I don't want them to be busier than they already are so I can get a quicker appointment the next time I need them, lol. But I need to give credit where credit is due and these guys are 5 stars all the way. My 12 year old car was making some rattling noises when I drove over bumps or uneven road. Takaki Auto had excellent reviews on many different platforms, and combing through them they seemed like legit reviews. They also came highly recommended on several chat forums. They are also close to my house and specialize in Japanese vehicles, which mine is. When I called for an appointment, I described my issue and they told me the plan of what they were going to check. They were booking about a month out. I dropped off my car on my appointment date and was able to rent a loaner car. They ended up keeping my car over the weekend because they weren't able to finish the work on the Friday that I dropped it off, but I was ok with that since I had the loaner. Hiroshi called me and explained the situation after they diagnosed what was wrong. They had already gone ahead and replaced a stabilizer link because I had given pre-authorization for certain repairs, if required, but further repairs were needed so he had to talk with me. He gave me some options (like just replacing the bushings instead of the entire controller arms). And advised me it wasn't urgent to fix, but explained some possible consequences of delaying the fix (like uneven tire wear and the sound could mask other more critical sounds if something else were to go wrong). He was very patient with me as I know very little about cars. In the end I didn't want to delay the repairs and I had them replace the 2 control arms for me. They texted me when my car was ready and sent me the detailed invoice. Pickup went smoothly and they fixed the problem. My car no longer made the rattling sound when I drove over bumps and the car seemed to drive smoother. I found the price reasonable and I was very happy with the customer service. Oh, let me tell you about the loaner car, it was like over 20 years old with over 300,000 km on it, yet still drove well. I feel this in itself is a testament to their skills, lol. I am glad to have found an auto shop that I like. My dad does all the basic maintenance stuff for me like oil changes, changing my tires and he can even change brake pads and spark plugs, but the more complicated stuff I need to take to professionals. After unhooking, the brake pedal went straight to the floor. The campground staff (great and helpful in their own right) recommended Serge Auto Clinic to assess the problem. As soon as they opened on Monday morning I called and Luke was confident that they could get us in that day. After they assessed the problem, Luke and Gilles contacted me and said it was the Master Cylinder (it had developed a leak) and that they couldn't get one until the next day. It's now Tuesday and the vehicle is fixed and ready to go ... the Serge Auto Clinic team were all upbeat, positive and reasonably priced for the predicament we were in, Thank You Serge Auto.

Fantastic place. We've been coming here for several years now. These people are good, solid people…read more- salt of the Earth. There have been several times when Canadian Tire would try to upsell us and tell us something was wrong with our car. We would come to J&S to get a second opinion and more times than not, the car was fine - and we wouldn't get charged for the inspection. One time an oil change place said our oil pan was rusted and needed to be replaced. J&S checked it out and said the metal was still solid underneath and it didn't need to be replaced yet. I trust these guys so if they tell me something needs to be fixed, then it needs to be fixed.
