One star is about 5 stars too many for this place…read more I should have listened to my instincts when I first arrived here. The guy at the counter (store manager Mike Kearing) printed off my work order and told me to take it out into the shop (watch my step) and give it to the shop manager. Normally shops do not allow customers into the service area. Apparently the guy at the counter is too lazy to bring the work order into the shop. So I bring out the work order. The guy out there says "white letters in or out". I said out. He said "your husband must clean your tires". Really? Should that be any concern of his who cleans my tires? Over $87 to change 2 tires when the site I bought the tires from quotes $58 for them to do the job. The store manager (or owner, not sure which-the guy at the counter) claimed it took well over an hour to change tires that size (315/75R16), claimed they were a real pain (how would he know when he can't even get out of his chair to deliver a work order). Funny thing, just one week ago I had 2 rear tires plus my spare(so 3 tires) of the same size changed at Laplante tire in massena and it didn't even take 1/2 hour. Store manager couldn't find my keys when I left.....he had one of the young mechanics take me into the shop to find my keys". The 2 young mechanics (one of them was kind enough to tell me his positive experience with tires just like I bought) looked in the shop-no keys. They went back out and found my keys right on the store manager's desk right by his keyboard where he was sitting and couldn't find them. This place is a sad joke. So I was mad enough about just getting totally ripped off by this skeevy place, but it gets better. On the way home, my truck seemed to pop out of gear (it's an automatic) and every gear including reverse now acts like neutral. I had to get towed the rest of the way. My truck has never had transmission problems so it is quite the coincidence this happened before I even made it home from this sketchy garage. I'm assuming they knocked a wire or sensor loose, but who knows. So I have a truck sitting in my yard with new tires but now it won't go anywhere. I also have a much larger credit card charge than I should have had. STEER CLEAR OF POTSDAM TIRE! This place is creepy and a complete rip off. Update-I noticed yesterday this place also trashed one of my tires that would have been a perfectly good spare. What kind of "tire shop" can't break down a tire without trashing the bead? This place should be out of business.

Very grateful to Jay and all of of Central Garage for coming out in the rain on Father's Day weekend when the Horse Show was also in town to tow my Subaru. They went to a lot of trouble getting the right replacement part and performed an expert repair at a fair price. Thank you so much. Highly recommend.

on Main St to start a vehicle & the customer gets upset that they didn't show up w/a flatbed or tow…read moretruck only a van.It's much easier to respond in the van than it is a flatbed or tow truck & if the vehicle has to be brought to the garage they can push it w/the van down to the garage to work on it, that's much easier than trying to pull a flatbed or tow truck into a full hotel parking lot, once that bed gets extended it doesn't move & a lot of places they don't have the room to back up to the car & pull it up on the flatbed or the tow truck. So,please don't panic if you see just their van show up! They also deliver cutomer's cars back to their houses at night after they work til 9pm in the shop. They work from 8am to 9pm M-F & pump gas til at least 11pm or 12am & they work on cars on Sat from 8am til Noon & then Jay's back the next morning at 7am,he doesn't even get 6hrs of sleep a night. On Sat after they work on cars they take the afternoon & a lot of times the night to clean the shop.The floors have to be swept,then cleaned down with a hose & in the Winter months the drains get clogged w/all the sand & they have to clean them out & if it's below zero they might still be starting cars & then Sun they are open for gas, tire repairs,jumpstarts, possibly fixing a visitor's car or God forbid they end up going to a car accident which can happen easily on our roads & both Jerry & Jay are members of the volunteer Fire Dept & get called out to a car accident w/them or by the State Police or by AAA. Jay & Jerry do their best to hire help,only a lot of people don't wanna work anymore or can't stand the hours they are wanted to work or they expect the weekend off, people don't realize how hard Jerry has worked the past 65yrs & how hard Jay has worked the past almost 40yrs.Jerry started this business on his own nobody handed it to him & Jay & Missi both worked at the garage since they were 10yrs old & Missi had several surgeries from her lawnmower accident at age 5 & was seriously hurt then & then she & Jay were in a terrible car accident in the tow truck & they were both hurt pretty bad.Missi stayed as long as she could,only after 2 more injuries one to her back & one to her good ankle she's no longer able to work, she ended up w/some herniated discs after she broke her back in 4 places in that tow truck accident & then severed the tendons in her good ankle & was made to wait 8 months before the doctor would do an MRI & her ankle hurts her constantly after 8 months of walking in enormous pain & still has pain in that ankle, foot,her bad leg from the lawnmower accident & losing her left hand as well. She stops in on occaision to see how things are & she's still dealing w/the unexpected passing of her fiance Reggie Way I who could be seen helping Joel out on a car or going on a tow call for Jay after he worked the day at Harlows running heavy equipment, or taking a vehicle to Albany, P-burgh, SL or wherever Jay or Jerry needed him to go.She's still dealing w/his loss after 3 1/2yrs have gone by,they had talked the Sat of Thanksgiving weekend about finally getting married & she was ready to go to the Town Hall Monday morning to get their marriage license & get married in early December & have a big party over the Summer when most of the family could be there to celebrate.Sadly Reg passed away Sunday morning the day after she & Reg talked about finally getting married & she's still having a very hard time w/no one in her life.She spends most of her time at her apt & has neuropathy throughout her whole body after she was diagnosed last yr w/Type 2 diabetes on top of all the pain she lives w/on a daily basis.She has to use her cane to get around & needs her bad knee replaced again,only she's a little skittish w/no one to go to NYC w/her & then to help her when she gets home.So,say hey if u see her at the garage or at the store or any other stores in the area,she's lost a lot of weight u might not recognize her...Back to Central stop in & say hey to Jerry & Jay anytime & give Judi a call at the house, she & Harley are there hanging out during the day till Jerry gets home at night.She would enjoy the company.Know that Jay is doing his best being pulled in a 100 different directions during each day & Jerry is busy selling cars & taking care of the business,he's there most days after 12pm & there til 6 or 7pm & back around 10pm to close up so Jay can deliver cars to their customer's homes & get home to get some much needed rest!!!Thank u both Jay & Jerry for all ur hard work,u are both very much appreciated & loved!!!! Amazing experience overall!…read more Hillside Auto Repair got me in on short notice thanks to a cancellation -- I called and was in within an hour for two bulb replacements. Not only did they get that done quickly, but they also checked my tires, and the whole visit took about 40 minutes -- even with them having to go grab the parts. The best surprise? Their little buddy, McDonald's, kept me company while I waited -- he's the cutest! The staff were super friendly and made the whole experience easy and stress-free. Highly recommend!

I got no answer and was walked out, left there wondering what the price would be now? Should be cheaper right? NOPE WAS $100 MORE!!!! I called Dave and told him what I wanted, and did not want. He straight up told me that my choice was spot on, showed me the proof on the phone (and afterwards reviews regarding my selection) Dave has experience in the world of tires and will offer honest, straight forward opinions. He also helped me fill out my mail in rebate. and explained the warranty regarding my tires. They accept credit cards, cash and interac. They sell brand new tires, used tires. They also had a large selection of mags, steelies, etc both new and used. His shop is tricky to get to, but so worth it. Not only was his price slightly lower than the chain garages I was calling, he took the time to explain everything to me. Service in this industry is lacking but not with Dave and his crew. Professional, honest hard working guys. I truly recommend them (and not a certain garage that quoted me Chinese tires that were more expensive then my General Tires) If you are from the South Shore (or close enough to it) call them up!
