One star is about 5 stars too many for this place. I should have listened to my instincts when I first arrived here. The guy at the counter (store manager Mike Kearing) printed off my work order and told me to take it out into the shop (watch my step) and give it to the shop manager. Normally shops do not allow customers into the service area. Apparently the guy at the counter is too lazy to bring the work order into the shop. So I bring out the work order. The guy out there says "white letters in or out". I said out. He said "your husband must clean your tires". Really? Should that be any concern of his who cleans my tires? Over $87 to change 2 tires when the site I bought the tires from quotes $58 for them to do the job. The store manager (or owner, not sure which-the guy at the counter) claimed it took well over an hour to change tires that size (315/75R16), claimed they were a real pain (how would he know when he can't even get out of his chair to deliver a work order). Funny thing, just one week ago I had 2 rear tires plus my spare(so 3 tires) of the same size changed at Laplante tire in massena and it didn't even take 1/2 hour. Store manager couldn't find my keys when I left.....he had one of the young mechanics take me into the shop to find my keys". The 2 young mechanics (one of them was kind enough to tell me his positive experience with tires just like I bought) looked in the shop-no keys. They went back out and found my keys right on the store manager's desk right by his keyboard where he was sitting and couldn't find them. This place is a sad joke. So I was mad enough about just getting totally ripped off by this skeevy place, but it gets better. On the way home, my truck seemed to pop out of gear (it's an automatic) and every gear including reverse now acts like neutral. I had to get towed the rest of the way. My truck has never had transmission problems so it is quite the coincidence this happened before I even made it home from this sketchy garage. I'm assuming they knocked a wire or sensor loose, but who knows. So I have a truck sitting in my yard with new tires but now it won't go anywhere. I also have a much larger credit card charge than I should have had. STEER CLEAR OF POTSDAM TIRE! This place is creepy and a complete rip off. Update-I noticed yesterday this place also trashed one of my tires that would have been a perfectly good spare. What kind of "tire shop" can't break down a tire without trashing the bead? Of the things I'll miss about the North Country, Mike and his team at Potsdam Tire will be one of them. Great customer service, affordable, and no issues with the work. Some highlights: * When I had to install a new clutch on my vehicle, an unexpected expense, they were very understanding on the challenges the high-cost job would place on my financial situation at the time. * When my wife moved to the area, they winterized her vehicle and did not charge because they said that the work they did was minimal. * They always break down multiple options when considering larger repairs and make their recommendation considering drivability and cost factors. These guys are my go-to guys. They have been my mechanics since we moved here in 2008. Mike has amazing customer service skills, never once have they tried to sell me something that wasn't needed (unlike TJ Toyota). They always hook me up with the right tires only when I need them. They convinced me to go with snow tires in the winter and switch out to others in the summer. The snow tires made all the difference for safe north country winter driving. (never buy an all weather tire up here, they don't work). Never overcharge. They get you in quickly if anything urgent. They communicate well, even text you if you can't talk during work time. Trust is key with auto mechanics and they have mine. read more

They were quick, but overfilled the oil on both cars I brought there. The Ford Fusion V6 specs six quarts of oil... So they dumped in six quarts without checking the dipstick. Of course, it was overfilled. I siphoned out a bit at home and it was back within the acceptable range. The Toyota Tacoma has an oil filter on top of the motor. You have to put a bottle or something underneath the filter to catch the oil once you remove it. Or, you could let the oil pour out and pool on top of the skidplate and onto the floor, which is what they did. I would have been fine spending an extra ten minutes there to avoid these problems, but it shows a definite lack of attention to detail on their part. read more

I've been taking vehicles to Potsdam Tire since 2008 and have always had a good experience there. The service is reasonable-- the guys there are honest about whether or not a specific fix is necessary or not, allowing us the decision on whether or not to spend the money. They're also very good about phone consultations; I moved away from the Canton area, but still call them with questions from time to time. My parents still regularly use their service; they only have good things to say about Potsdam Tire. read more

Horrible service, no one knows how to manage the shop, made an appointment a week ahead get there Mike says we're gonna have to do tomaro, I told him I can't do that so he send me to mark, mark got it done that day but took 2 hours, not even made about that, set my wife up for an appointment a week in advanced to get 2 new front tires, drop the truck off get no call or anything for 4 hours go back and they didn't even touch it , there excuse was "there was a car in front of it I couldn't see it". Buddy u had the keys and paperwork, this shop needs new management or just shut down Mike and Mark arent doin a good job at all. read more

Mask required sign on the door but not one of their workers had one on. Checked my glove box because I remembered I had left cash in there and it was gone. Would not recommend this place ever to anyone!!! Not only can they not follow guidelines to keep their customers safe during a pandemic but also would find the need to steal from a customers car!!! read more

Their customer service is terrible. I was there 2 times to fix my car and always have to talk to a sullen manager named Mark. He never says some greetings and I was there like begging for him to fix my car. The quality of their service is also very bad. I did an overhaul there but my car still got the same problems after spending lots of money for it. Overall. all they need is your money, they don't care about your car. Great until I bought a car from someone here. They insisted that the car was in great shape, even when I brought it back with the transmission light on. Kept sending me away and saying that there was nothing wrong. Took to another garage: transmission is bad and will likely need replacement. O2 sensors both bad even though they were "just changed" before I purchased it. I wouldn't be mad if he'd simply owned up and had things fixed, but instead he repeatedly told me there were no problems, and time has let all the problems get worse. Now I'm looking at a brand new transmission or scrapping the car, all because they wouldn't just tell me there was a transmission problem to begin with. They'd rather get it done fast than done right. read more

For starters, I do all my own work on my car, and I'm very anal about it. I love my car dearly, as any enthusiast like myself will. I unfortunately ran over a curb and totally messed up my exhaust system, and I found them in town and decided to give them a call. I spoke with Mark on the phone and he was absolutely fantastic with dealing with me. By the end of the call we were joking around and having a great time. I then went in and both guys at the front desk were phenomenal as well. They got my car in and out and only charged me a half hour of labor, whereas most places will charge an hour up front. The exhaust was just about perfect. Ten minutes later it rattled a little more, so I took it back and they immediately took it in, asked if bending the pipe was alright, and did it within 15 minutes. The guy who worked on my car (Steve I think, I could be wrong) stood with me outside for about 10 minutes just chatting and being honest with what he did and how it turned out. Very understanding people and a great atmosphere. You don't feel like your car isn't important which is exactly what enthusiasts and people in general will look for. Made an appointment to get my car's secondary air injector checked. Dropped car off at 9 am. It is now 5pm and now I have to car to get home with. I called and they said they'd get it in asap, and implied it was my fault for not telling them to do it asap. What's the point of making an appointment if they arnt gonna look at it anyway? 15$ for putting on the plates. Maybe I am wrong, but in my opinion, 15$ for just screwing on your plates is a complete ripoff. I would never even imagine taking a vehicle to them for repairs! People are not courteosu anymore. read more

I love the saying "It's easy to be an angel if no one ruffles your feathers." I feel sad to say that I think that applies to Potsdam T&A. I have gone to them off and on for many years and have always sung their praises for being courteous and professional and helpful, although never cheap. But nowadays, when they must realize that there is so much competition with internet prices, they - poplitely- will not help you over the phone. They insist on getting you into their store, knowing that human nature is for you to buby once you are there. It makes me reflect that maybe in the past the reason I have lliked them so much is that I have always done whatever they told me. So, if you do not want to think, and blindly follow a tire company's choices (despite Internet ratings from other brands), then they are nice. But don't try to question the products they sell. They will make you feel ignorant - but do so politely. read more

77 dollar oil and tire rotation. I never felt the need to write a review for anyone good or bad as I am normally a level headed individual but this is outrageous. I went to them after hearing some good things for a simple oil and tire rotation in which they did quickly and I'm sure was professional however, I was never informed of the price and the owner charged me for balancing my tires when I did not ask for that service then refused to make right his wrong after I expressed dissatisfaction saying only, "I'm sorry you feel that way." I urge you to go the half mile down the street and get the same exact service for a third of the price because the owner is a twat waffle who I cannot fathom at this moment. Don't give any money to these people who treat there customers like walking dollar bills. I will never be going back for any service ever again and I will adamantly continue to urge people to never use them for anything. I urge you to use your head and learn from my mistake so you do not get ripped off for completely standard maintenance by this owner who thinks everyone is a mid aged housewife who knows nothing about cars and how they work.
