This was another of the fabric store day trip I took with my sewing friends. There is only street parking. You will need to parallel park and pay. It is $1 for one hour. It is a very lovely store with a friendly staff. Prices are good. You will find a small selection of African fabric. There are lots of prints. There's a good selection of wovens and knits. The store is small but we were happy to support a small business. The owner kindly let us browse the basement which was being used as storage during the pandemic. I'm glad she did because I found a knit batik remnant which would be great for a tee.

I just needed buttons but the selection was fabulous & affordable! Some of the boxes were mislabeled, but it was a small inconvenience. There were plenty of staff, very friendly, to offer help. Can't imagine going elsewhere next time.

Just sending a update on my DIY project. Finally got my husband to recover my dining room chairs. I must admit, I did help a little. They turned out better than I could have imagined. Thanks to Gaffney's for having great fabrics to choose from. Would definitely go back if I need a nice fabric for my next DIY project. See my dining room chair before and after below.

    Patterned fabric! All cheap prices.

My favorite fabric place EVER. They have the cheapest prices and the best patterned fabric in Philly. This place is much better than Joann's and any store located on fabric row. They're a staple in Philly and I hope I can continue to visit for years to come.

Waited outside for 30 minutes before being allowed to enter the store. I understand that precautions must be made, but considering that I just left the fabric district and waited no longer than 5 minutes, waiting outside for that amount of time is ridiculous. They should reconsider the number of people they allow in. Currently they are only allowing 5 customers in at a time! Once inside, the service and selection was top notch. I strongly advise you to be the first in line upon the store opening

This is my go-to-fabric store. If you want to compare prices to places like 4th st down fabric row, Gaffney's prices will be lower. If you want to compare prices to places like JoAnne's Gaffney's prices are lower. They have a variety of fabrics and prints, ITY's Linen's, notions, Quiannas, jersey material, sequins, bottons, trims, ribbons etc. Whatever you need for your next sewing project Gaffney's has it. They try to stay up on seasons and trends as well. Also, they have a downstairs. OKay, so lets talk about customer service, Today Ms. KAte checked on me a few times because she saw me waiting in line while the Employee that works in the back section against the wall did not have a customer and did not offer for me to come over to her station. I did not know if the other worker was open or not and I didn't want to come to her station if she was closed. Anyhow, I ended up checking out with Ms.Elsee (Elcee or LC) I'm not sure how to spell her name but she was a doll. She was very friendly to the customer that was ahead of me as well as myself. Ms. Elsee noticed a cut on my-print that came from the factory and she was attentive and made sure that I didnot recieve the fabric that had the whole in it from the factory. I mentioned to Ms. Elsee that I didn't want to get a ticket because I didn't plan on being in the store that long and she told me to go to the main counter and get a quarter for the meter. I had my own quarter in my pocket, so I didn't need to ask for a quarter but it was nice of her to let me know that they would of given me a coin for the meter to prevent me from getting a parking ticket. Ms. Elsee's whole entire vibe was radiant and welcoming! She is totally awesome. In fact MS. Elsee is the reason why I am writing this review, I've been coming to Gaffney's since I was a kid and I never thought to write a review on the store until today. THANK YOU Ms. Elsee

We stopped here to look at antique furniture as we're currently seeking a kitchen hutch. The…read morecollection here is eclectic, but it seems to offer pieces that I took for near Eastern, far Eastern, and Mediterranean. In addition to furniture like cabinets, benches, chairs, and tables, one can find rugs, lights/lanterns, books, statues, busts, and other odds and ends. The space is quite large, and the selection varied. Kudos to the curator as one can spend quite a bit of time combing through all of the many treasures. Pieces can trend toward the more expensive side; however, deals are to be found, and while we were there, there was a 30% off sale. The staff are friendly, and my transaction is quick and efficient. While on site, I purchased several wine bottle snuggies that were styled after Chinese-style clothing. They were $3.50 each--a bargain. They'll come in handy when I take wine or other such bottles to social gatherings in the future. Overall, a great experience. Amex is accepted here.

(Do they really sell those hideous masks to anyone with a real sense of style? Or to anyone at all??) I had the heebeejeebees walking around in there, and I'm not superstitious or flighty, but the place just had a very "heavy" feeling, like a weight was on my shoulders the whole time there. And don't get me started on the prices... overpriced, on purpose, IMHO, for those who think the higher the price, the more precious the item. The only thing precious is the first breath of fresh air you get when leaving this gaudily overdone made in china sham of a store.

I'm really a fan of what the instructor has intended here. She's branching out to adults, but the…read moreconcept is perfectly novel and fun for kids... and I think she's very quickly accomodating to her new audience. Reading the other two reviews, I feel like she's already read them and used the feedback to improve the class, because their comments were irrelevent to my Living Social deal for two. We made Irish Car Bomb cupcakes, and the engagement with the audience varied. We started off introducing ourselves and what we do / how much we bake, which I thought was stupid at first. However, as the class progressed, she used that information to gauge who was comfrtable with what or to ask for different people's methods in the activities we were doing. We did not make the ganache because it's a finicky process, truly, but she told us how she had done so ahead of time. She and another person in the class operated kitchen aids as the group came up in pairs to measure out ingredients, sift, crack eggs, etc. It was not constantly hands on, and for that she called it "Lazy Baking," because we each had something to do but could sit back and relax while others went up i f they wanted. I brought water, but others brought creative things like chocoalte wine or baileys to go with our cooking, and those people really got into it. After the batter was prepared, a handful of people filled cookie sheets, while others licked beaters. As the cake baked, icing was prepared and we played a round of a game with a final winner who got a small prize. The most hands on part of the workshop involved us icing our cupcakes. Some filled the cupcakes with ganache, but everyone was in charge of icing their cupcakes. We each got 6 mini cupcakes to eat / take home, which was enough. We also had mini chips and sprinkles to top them with. Overall, I think it was a fun time with only a few awkward silences, though it was not as hands on as I had hoped. Still, I like the idea, and in smaller groups (for private parties or children) I bet it's a ton of fun.

My friend and I got a Living Social (2 ppl for $25) for a BYO cupcake making class. We ended up in…read morea boozy brownie class which sounded pretty fun. Unfortunately, I have to echo what the previous person said. The instructor/owner did not seem very engaged. It was like being on the set of a really boring cooking show. Oh, and guess what? We paid to make boxed brownies. Duncan Hines. She called this "Lazy Brownie making" Um, girlfriend that's what I do at home for $2.99. I thought I was going to learn something. Instead of this being a class atmosphere, she stood and asked "Who wants to open the brownie boxes?" and then two girls went up and snipped them open and returned to their seats. I suppose we thought we would have our own station and learn how to make something hands on together while having a glass of wine. Instead, we watched people drop ingredients into KitchenAid mixers and chit chatted. There were no real attempts to engage the crowd- she could have had some sort of games or talked about herself and her business or SOMETHING. Instead she stood by the oven and watched the brownies bake. I LOVE the concept, but it this is a total misfire.
