The inside of this store is a little chaotic, with not much room to navigate. I popped in looking for fabric for a dress midweek and there might have been one other customer in at the same time. Their fabrics were on trend and a good deal. When I finally made my selection someone came to cut my fabric and get me checked out. It was nice being able to pull things out and be left alone with my own indecisive nonsense but I could see others having issues with that. read more

I needed a trim for a dress to use as a belt. I bought a trim that was $25/yd that had 4 rows of trim. They were a lot cheaper than some of the stores I went to. At the end I ended up buying 5 rows, 1 yd and a quarter of trim for $40. They give you a discount for using cash too. Funny thing is I heard someone from Yelp leave a message asking them to claim their acct but one of the owners said he didn't want to because he thought they were trying to steal his info and he thought it was sketchy. Shoutout to Phuong's shop!!!! I've been looking into where to get an Ao Dai made and it seemed nearly impossible to find any leads on someone who can make an Ao Dai these days. Most people simply told me that I needed to go to Vietnam to get them made. However, Phuong's shop makes Ao Dais here!! I got mine fitted for a wedding and it fits perfectly. The price was extremely reasonable, and I paid around $250 for my male Ao Dai and fiancé paid around $350. I think pricing depends on the fabric and style of Ao Dai. I drove a long distance and came Deposit ready as asked for my daughter's senior prom once I arrived I was told that the drees we wanted could not be made the items to make it have been sold. we were given other options after already discussing the design We wanted prior to arriving for the appointment. i am highly upset and very disappointed. I was looking to make a very specific costume with very specific fabrics, so I took my first trip to Philly's Fabric Row. I went to another store, looking for the intricate / unique lace and tulle, and was redirected to Phuong's. What a delight it was to walk into this store! It's COVERED in beautiful, unique fabrics and absolutely stunning dresses. If you ever want a hard-to-find tulle, lace, or sequin-covered fabric, Phuong's is the place to go. When I talked to the staff, I felt a bit like I was imposing on them with my annoying, newbie questions, but they ended up being helpful in the end. In particular, the gentleman who seemed like the manager was really useful in helping me pick out specific fabrics that would work for my dress and recommending the correct amount to buy to make my outfit (which I meekly had patterns of on my cellphone.) In addition, they had the PERFECT tulle-lined fabric I needed... for $30 a yard, which was way over my budget. Since I was a newbie, however, they discounted it for me a bit, which was sweet of them. * I think they moved further up to 757 S 4th St...FYI. I took in three dresses for tailoring last week, and they all came out beautifully. One dress in particular was difficult to tailor, as the seams themselves were part of the fabric design. I was impressed that Phuong's was able to maintain the seams while taking the dress in. As someone who is a P0, I always need to get my dresses taken in, so I'm happy to have finally found a reliable tailor. Three dresses cost me a mere $45! read more

Phuong's worked out great for me. I brought in my bridesmaid dress that needed to be taken in. I thought both owners ( i dont remember their names) were very polite and understood what i wanted. I picked up my dress about 2 weeks later and it looked and fit perfect. And it was cheap too! Only $20 for my alternations. Definitely Recommend and will return. read more

Wow - Can't say enough about this shop, and Phuong's excellent skills as a tailor/seamstress/dressmaker. My daughter and I arrived on a Wednesday morning with a custom made wedding dress (from my home state) that just did NOT fit properly. Although it was a beautiful dress that had been tried-on and altered by the original dressmaker just the previous Saturday, it still felt (and looked!) as though the strapless top (on my size 0 daughter) was simply NEVER going to stay up once the dancing started. We had less than two weeks until the Big Day. Phoung took one look at the original bodice and understood immediately that the bodice itself needed to be several inches longer (something the original dressmaker somehow missed, and that we never quite understood.) For a fraction of the cost of the original dress Phoung quickly made an entirely new bodice in matching fabric, in the exact style of the original and gave us the perfect wedding dress in less than a week. Her workmanship (please note that the bodice and entire zipper of the gown had to be ripped out and 're-installed') was impeccable - not a stitch out of place. Beautifully lined, perfectly 'put back together again, and way better fitting than the original which took months to have made! Such a relief! Plus Phuong was super friendly, calm and confident! We were obviously extremely nervous, but somehow managed to put our trust in her (not that we had any other options at that late date...) Thank you Phuong! read more

I took a suit jacket that needed a new lining to them. They made the lining too small for the jacket so I could barely move my arms. They were going to try to fix it. Instead they made the jacket smaller so the lining looked bigger. Now an expensive suit jacket is worthless. They appear to do well with dresses. Don't take them any tailoring jobs. read more

I brought an item here to be altered. I thought it hadn't been altered as I did not try it on in the store. the store was packed with customers and the owners paid no attention to me. What an amazing job they did on 4 huge cocktail dresses I brought in for alterations. Since the dresses needed so much work, I was hesitant at first that they'd get it right in one shot, but I was pleasantly surprised that each and every dress fit perfectly. If you are a cosplayer or just in general do costuming in Philadelphia, this is where you should come for spandex, PVC, lycra, and stretch netting. This store is amazing. I stumbled in by accident looking for a stretch PVC for a costume and they had a great selection as well as things that allowed me to do other costumes I'd put on the back burner due to lack of fabric choices. The people who run it are extremely nice and often you can even find hard to find silky printed fabric, like this awesome purple tiger striped fabric I ended up making a jacket from. read more

This fabric store, near the south end of fabric row, is unique in that it is the only fabric store, the ONLY ONE, that offers a full spectrum of fine tulle. By this I mean the soft, flowing tulle you might use as a head scarf, or as a top layer to silk... not the stiff, coarse kind you might find on Glenda the good witch. The next highest assortment of fine tulle is the Fabric Outlet, a store with great variety, but they have an incomplete selection. After that, there's almost none to be found. So, Phuong's was a saving grace after two solid days of searching every store, to walk in and immediately be struck with 30 colors of fine tulle... including my beloved robin's egg blue. They sell by the half yard minimum, and tulle is 4 dollars/yard, which is about 33% higher than in ought to be, but oh well. The asians operating the store are FABULOUS tailors and dressmakers, so if you ever want a really sassy, sexy, unique dress, I recommend going here. You'll see tons of examples, with embellishments and gradients and layers, you name it. They can do it. Small, limited selection of fabrics, almost exclusively those you'd see on a prom dress. However, sweet personnel, and the only fine tulle holders!!! read more

all i have to say is i love Phuong she always make what i want to the tee within a weeks time. and she's done some of my drill teams uniform and this is a team of 25-30 people and they always looked damn Good. Do not go here. I've never had a worse experience. I took my Maid of Honor dress here last week to have hemmed and altered. Phuong had to add material because it was admittedly too tight. She said it would be an easy fix to add material to the back of the dress. When I questioned why add it to the back and not the sides, where the seam is, she assured me you wouldn't be able to notice and it would look just like the dress. I'll also add that another girl in the wedding also had to have material added to her dress. They added it to the sides and it looks great. I picked up "finished" dress up two days later and it was atrocious. The bottom hem was completely uneven, the back (where she added fabric) caused the zipper to bubble over and not lay flat like it should, the front of the dress somehow lost its boning and rolled over so that you could actually see the inside lining of the dress and to top it all off, she didn't even change the color thread in her machine! She used black thread on a gray dress! I'm sure she has gray thread, she can't take two minutes to change that!? The inside seam work was rigged and altered as one would alter a costume. Working in theatre, I know that work. When questioning these things, she makes you feel like you don't know what you're talking about and rushes through the conversation and out the door. As long as she has her $80, who cares what you have to say. I asked if the dress had been steamed after the work and her response was, "Umm, I'm not sure, I think so??" How do you not know!? Needless to say, I didn't trust her touching the dress again! I took it to a trained fashion designer and there was no way to fix the dress after her alterations. I had to have a brand new dress overnighted. Save yourself a lot of time and money and do not go here!! With all the positive reviews and a recommendation from someone, I expected exquisite work and what I got, was rushed, crappy work with no care or concern for helping make her customers look their best. read more
