At the end of the castle tour, my sister became extremely unwell and we called Martin back to pick us up. At the time, we thought he would just take us back to the bus station. However, he agreed he would take us all the way back to Edinburgh (and he hauled a$$)!! He went out of his way to help us and we greatly appreciate him! He literally was a God send for us that day. I don't think any other cab driver would have done that. THAT will forever be a day we won't forget from our vacation!

Price wise I believe is different depending on where you start. We alway stick to the return instead of one way. The station itself is pretty big. Lots of terminals so make sure to check the schedule to see where your train is at. Sometimes schedule changes so also be aware. There's a good amount of quick and easy eating places. Coffee shops as well. Right in the heart of the station, you'll find a couple of things to do. Mainly grab a drink if your waiting for your train.... lol... There alway security on hand if you have any questions about anything. The stations where you get on and off the train is pretty long so it could be a walk to exit if you're coming off from the end of train. It's a couple of flights on the escalator till you reach the top. There's an indoor waiting area as well as public restrooms. But if it's your first time, it could be a little intimidating finding your way around. Also a few different ways to enter and exit.

So as I was walking about Kirkcaldy, I thought that I would pay the newly refurbished bus station a visit. And after wandering about it for a while I decided that it looked pretty good. It's in a great location, with it being less than a minutes walk from the high street and main shopping centres! It has new bus shelters with updated digital notices on buses, very helpful indeed. Also, the main bus station building has been upgraded with a seating area, a shop and a small cafe, which does teas, snacks and sandwiches. The station has been given a breath of fresh air and has been reinvigorated for the twenty first century!

Kirkcaldy`s bus station used to be an eye sore as it had become very run down over the years. It…read morehas had a major revamp in recent times and now takes pride of place opposite the town house. The new bus station has a very modern feel to it and it also has a nice cafe to relax in whilst waiting to travel rather than the horrible old cafe that used to look and feel very gruby. The revamp to this station took a lot longer than thought with the first contractors going bust in the middle of the job but now it is done it looks and feels a much better place.

Situated just outside Inverkeithing and just off the A90 is Ferrytoll park and ride. This park and ride service allows users to park their cars in a secure car park and get a bus through to Edinburgh. The bus service is mainly run by Stagecoach, and the services in the morning and evening are very busy! However, the prices are not bad at all, and are cheaper than going via train! I have only used it a couple of times and I found the service quite fast and only took around twenty minutes to get into the centre of Edinburgh. From Edinburgh you can get buses back from the bus station or George Street. A great service by all accounts and a great way to get cars of the road in Edinburgh!

It's a nice little station, and it's handy. There's two basic services from here, to Glasgow and to Edinburgh every two hours. Both of these take approximately 45mins, which isn't bad at all. The last train from Edinburgh to Carstairs arrives at midnight - very good for the odd night out. There's also the sleeper service direct to London, which I've also used. Walk from my door, hop on a train, go to sleep and wake up in London! How good is that??? The station itself is very busy for through traffic, with pretty much every Glasgow and further north service heading south at speed through the station. Ideal if you have an anorak and thermos flask,,, The ticket office is manned in the morning, until about 2pm - after that, tickets are available on the trains. The village itself doesn't have much in the way of attractions if you're planning to visit - there's a primary school, a Londis (with a post office!), a hairdresser, a pub and a couple of haulage firms. Oh, and the State Mental Hospital, but I don't use that. Honest. *twitch* You can get a bus from the station into Lanark, which opens up New Lanark and the likes, so you could make a day of it that way. It's my station. I like it. So there.

Like any public transit the person next to you can always be hit or miss, on the way out there were no problems, other than the guy two rows back had a persistent smokers cough. Return was no problems. The buses have wifi which is surprisingly fast- I got a 5Mpbs download - fast enough to support Netflix. It's cheap and in my opinion worth the other passenger risk.

From the bus station in the city centre one can travel to Dundee, Dunfermline and St. Andrews via Stagecoach. Prices on these services are generally a lot cheaper than going via train. To Glenrothes the train costs about ten pounds from Edinburgh. However, via Stagecoach you can get a cheap day return for only five pounds and fifty pence. A bargain! There are some downsides to Stagecoach though. Services are sometimes late due to delays at the Forth Road Bridge. Also, some services are very busy and one can be sitting next to someone who is larger than their seat or smells slightly of Body Odour!! Not very nice at all! If you want value for money, Stagecoach is pretty good!

It's a circle of concrete with an island in the middle that may or may not contain trees depending on the whim of the local council. There are several bus stops and a board that tells you where to catch your bus from. From here, all of the outlying villages in Lanark and the surrounding area are served - including Biggar, Kirkfieldbank, Carstairs, Forth and Carnwath amongst all the other tiny places that you've likely never heard of - Ravenstruther, anybody? There's also an hourly "express" bus to Glasgow, an every 15 minute service to Hamilton and Motherwell, and the railway station is connected as well. Seriously though... there needs to be some work done here for the influx of people that come here with the intention of visiting New Lanark or Tinto Hill. Not much information or useful things here. A poor effort.
