I've taken two cameras to be repaired at this place. Each time, the gentleman working there looks at it for 5 seconds and has told me there's nothing he can do unless I spend the original value of the camera (like $400, which he knows isn't worthwhile). Then he proposes to buy the camera "for parts" for $100 cash. He makes it look like my situation is so bad but he can just take it off my hands for me. The first time he did this, I said fine and took the cash. The second time, I refused because I realized that he most likely buys my camera for very little, repairs it himself for nothing, and then makes a profit off my misery. For the record, I've never tried to substantiate my hunch. So I've kept the 2nd camera, replaced it with a newer one, and leave it sitting in my camera bag as a paper weight. It's now out of date and struggles to work 50% of the time. It's a 3 pound piece of metal and plastic to remind me that I have to be even more careful of my camera gear. The guy/owner probably knows his stuff. He seems to have an excellent selection in photo gear. But that taste that was left in my mouth from my last two visits... priceless.

But another salesman told me that it is not great lenses and refused to help. Photo-printing is awful. I ordered print and most pictures was cut off, though I got full refund. So, I would go in this store only to buy expensive professional camera. Otherwise, I would stick to another store, Black's for example.

The on-line service, however, is awful. When they created their new web site, they lost my archived projects in the 'classic' site. Poof! They lost everything, and no, they just can't retrieve anything. All I got was "sorry!". I also heard from a very credible someone that the shoebox offer (i.e. have your old pics scanned and digitalized) had turned into a disaster for some customers whose precious pics got lost. My go-to place for rentals, they always have what I need and they offer a 20% student discount. I…read moretend to rent on the weekends cause you get more for your money, a weekend counts as a one day rate. The staff are really nice, really helpful and know their photography equipment. The booking process is easy over the phone or by e-mail. They have really good prices as well. My only gripe is that the deposit is more than I used to have when I was renting at Headshots in Toronto. They would only ever do a $500 hold on my card no matter what I was renting provided it wasn't a camera but the hold at vistek changes based on what you are renting no matter what. I guess it's just the I was used to a certain way of renting. I would recommend this place over Henry's because they have all the equipment in store and there is no shipping and waiting time, plus their staff really care.
