I have lived in the area for more than 20 years and never knew this place existed. There is a staging area, where you park and pay, the cost wasn't to bad. As you wait in this building (sorry can't remember the name, belongs to a small newspaper) there is the Museum of Off Road Adventures. They numerous vehicles from the 1950's and forward. It is enough to keep you busy until the bus shows up to take you to the house. There isn't enough parking at the house to accommodate all the cars. The bus ride takes less than 10 minutes, the house is 3 miles away. Once we arrived, the bus drops us off in a small driveway. The bus has to back up in order to turn around. The walk way to the house is covered in straw to help keep the dirty snow from getting inside the house. Once inside the house, you wear these small booties that go over your shoes. Once inside there are three levels of decorations, there is also a pool area and the garage. Be careful in the pool area, there is water in the pool. The garage had two small cities built with small decorations from around the world. All three floors had some of the most incredible tree decorations I have ever seen. If the decorations don't impress you the house surely will. Truly a work of art, if you can find the history of the house read it. I think it was on the second floor near the stairs.

The Maritime Museum has many photos of World War II landing crafts that were built at Chris-Craft between 1942 and 1945. One of Gar Wood's last mahogany boats from the Marysville, MI plant when it closed in 1947 was named the Last Gar. Also on display is a Chris-Craft kit boat, built every year by students in a boat building class at the Algonac High School until 1960. If you like to see and touch boating history live this is the place to visit. Have a great gift shop.

After visiting this historic site some six years ago (on a day when it was closed), I decided to pay another visit and take in some local border history about a time so long ago. Not far from Windsor / Detroit, it makes for a nice morning or afternoon outing. As an American, I was taught briefly about the Underground Railroad during my school years. Living so close to the border, it is convenient for me to cross into Ontario and see how much the U.S. and Canada have in common. On this trip, I opted to cross from Michigan at Algonac / Walpole Island to visit, and return at Sombra / Marine City, both crossings accomplished by ferry. As you can see in the pictures, this is a nice historic site where Rev. Josiah Henson was instrumental in starting the Dawn Settlement, which included the British American Institute. At this place, they have a restored home and church, as well as the home the Rev. Henson and his second wife lived in. The Josiah Henson Interpretive Centre houses a nice screening room where you can watch an historical video presentation of the Reverend Henson's life leading up to his final settlement at modern day Dresden, ON. Then, walk across the book and gift store to the other end of the building and view a gallery of displays about slavery and the efforts of abolitionists to establish freedom for all. Finish off your visit with a leisurely stroll through the two houses and the church as you exit the gate, the Henson Family Cemetery is to your immediate right, and the British American Institute Cemetery is a few paces across the road. Plan to spend a couple hours touring the grounds and taking in the exhibits and such. Current hours of operation and admission rates are posted at their website.

And this one was actually really nice…read more Definitely does not have all of the games as some of the larger casinos, but this one was very respectable. The place was bright and cheery and very neatly kept. Plenty of security on hand to make sure everything goes according to plan. Are two places to eat. One was the buffet which was closed when I was there, and the other was match a nice bar and grill. Which has lots of seating. To be clear, I did not do any gaming at this casino, but I did walk around and see everything. Side note, you're not allowed to take pictures in the casino. I found that out after taking several pictures. But I'm posting them here so you can get a glimpse of the inside. Bottom line? If I had some extra money to burn this would be the place I would do it. It looks like a fun place to do a little bit of gambling and to hang out with friends.
