I used to come to this theater when I was a kid! I'm so glad it's still around!…read more I came here with some family for a 1015pm showing of Hokum and had a great time! We pre-ordered our tickets online and picked them up at a kiosk when we arrived. We also ordered popcorn and drinks which were delicious. We tried the real butter option for our popcorn which was way better than the other butter topping that they offer. This theater is cool because some of the seats have privacy dividers which I've never seen before. These definitely helped minimize distractions from other people. I can't wait to come back here.

Slower than dirt with staffing if you're checking in with cash expect to wait a next 10 to 20 minutes. Then if you go to the food court that was even slower, even though they have all the food prepped and ready to go it seems like every time you order something the staff had to take a five minute break. Then the movie experience itself the seats don't go all the way back. It was hot like at the end I was sweating. The sound was deafening and my smart watch was telling me to get out of there. Don't go to this movie theater just Run Away and save yourself money time. Just run.

Imagine Detroit's finest theatre, The Fox, being used as a parking garage…read more Why that would be ludicrous!!! An abomination!!! Blasphemy!!! Unfortunately, this was the fate of the now crumbling Michigan Theatre. Once a crown jewel of Detroit, the theatre captured the very essence of the opulence of the city's new found wealth during the roaring twenties. Three million dollars went into building this lavish structure, and now it's decaying as a parking garage. **smh** If you're fascinated with historic buildings or looking to do some urban exploring, def pay a visit to the Michigan Theatre. It's a fully functioning three-story parking facility that you can access thru the main or side entrance. Please note, it's open to visitors Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00am-4:00pm. You might think you can sneak past that squirly security guard, but don't underestimate him -or- the creeper parking attendant that lurks in the corner of the garage perched on an arm rest with cat in tow (à la Dr. No), as they'll instruct you to return during regular business hours.

We tried every possible entrance on the sides of the building even through the garage but the garage was gated off and required some sort of badge to enter despite the large yellow sign that read "PARKING". Disappointing. One star.

My husband and I couldn't remember the last time we had been to this Cinemark (all signs point to…read morepre pandemic?) and I was honestly a little apprehensive about how it would be since a lot of theatres have been falling by the wayside but to my pleasant surprise it's actually still in pretty good shape! Typically we go to another theatre that's a bit closer with some better amenities (a fairly robust food, menu, a full bar, etc) but we came here because it was the only theatre in the area showing a movie we wanted to see. Gone are the days of the giant movie releases where multiple concession counters are open, so parts of the building do feel like of deserted, but it was still pretty busy for a Monday night and there was a bit of a line, though it did move pretty quickly. A lot of it is grab and go (including most hot food), so it's convenient and quick, though the quality does suffer a bit not being made to order (compared to their local chain competitor who delivers your food to your seat). I got the chicken fingers and we split some fries and they were ok. Not great but not terrible. It got the job done. We also split some popcorn which was freshly popped. I'd probably just stick to that and a soda next time. The theatres are clean and the seats themselves are recliners and pretty comfy and in good condition. Projection was good, as was the sound. Commercials/trailers were almost a half hour long which felt a bit like overkill, tho. Over all, it was fine. Not impressive enough to get us to change our regular theatre but serviceable for a visit now and again.

They consistently appear understaffed, and cleanliness is an ongoing problem. There's frequently popcorn and debris behind the concession counters and around the concession area near the auditoriums. Nothing is necessarily disastrous, but the details are constantly being missed. Customer service is also completely forgettable. The employees aren't necessarily rude, but there's very little energy, urgency or personality. It feels like everyone is simply getting through their shift. There's no real culture or sense that the team is excited to have customers there. To me, that ultimately comes down to leadership. A great theater manager should be visible, set expectations, build culture and create a team that is friendly, fast and efficient while keeping the building looking great. I just don't see that reflected in the operation at this location. The frustrating part is that MJR has an opportunity right now. People still love going to the movies, but theaters are competing with incredibly convenient home entertainment. If theaters want the experience to remain relevant, they have to give customers something they can't get sitting on their couch. That starts with a clean building, great hospitality, efficient concessions and employees who actually add something to the experience. This location has potential, but almost every part of the operation could be tightened up. Better leadership, stronger training and an actual focus on employee culture could completely change the place. Right now, it feels like they're doing just enough to keep the doors open rather than trying to make going to the movies feel special.
