Keep track of your own hours and peeps. We were over charged for our bill and when we asked to have it corrected the servers were nice but the managers were extremely rude. I have been here twice before but the third most recent visit will surely be my LAST. The night proceeded as usual - we arrived for our reservations on time, sat in our private room, ordered drinks/food, and sang songs. 2 bowls of dok bokki, 2 orders of fries, 1 order of chicken 8 jugs of soju, and 8 pitchers of beer later. We paid for our bills and was absolutely shocked to see that all of the aforementioned food items and room rental fee amounted to a whopping $800 with 15% gratuity. After doing the math, nothing seemed to add up, so we were just told that the room rental fee was $100/hour since we had 10 people occupying the room. Not to say that we actually tipped them for ripping us off but they were uncourteous and rude about this insane charge. I would also like to note that most of us were still sober at that point. I would not recommend anyone to bring their business here and will definitely go elsewhere in the future. We went on a Friday evening with 7 people. Bring ID! They do not allow minors in after 7PM, and they kick out minors at 7PM (If you are there before 7 and don't know if you'll stay past, they'll come around the rooms close to 7 to check) as well as deny you entry if you plan to stay past 7PM with out ID. Now I'm not sure why they set it so early, but I had a friend who did not bring ID (she's been away from the country for a year so she didn't have anything like a driver's licence). We didn't know about the 7PM rule so when asked if we were staying past 7, we obviously said "yes" and was denied service. We ended up having to go to Lips instead. Walking into the place, it gives off a very "small" feeling but it feels very modern and clean. It is $5 an hour per PERSON. So for example, if you have 4 people with you, it is $20 per hour. Room: We were assigned a room and it was actually pretty big for a karaoke room (compared to the other ones I've been to) with a table in the middle you can move and everyone can stand up and dance! (well mostly everyone). They had light up tambourines you could shake, and the best part was THE DISCO BALL THAT WOULD LIGHT UP WHEN YOU STARTED SINGING! However, those rooms are VERY STUFFY AND VERY HOT. You HAVE to ask them to turn on the fan if it gets too hot, because it gets VERY HOT. We didn't tell them (we didn't know we had a fan) but we kept opening the door to let cool air in, and I think they got the hint and turned it on (or they started cooking....we did smell food....) Rooms are also NOT sound proof (like every other karaoke) so yes, regardless you will make a fool of yourselves, and yes, everybody WILL hear it. Might as well have fun :) Songs: The great thing was that the list was updated! They also had tons of songs both English and Korean. Their English list wasn't as updated as the Korean one, however it is still usable. They also offer Japanese, Chinese, Thai songs, Philippine songs as well. I'm not sure how extensive those lists are. By the way, THE MENU IS ENTIRELY IN KOREAN The keyboard was very easy to use. It is a Korean and English keyboard. If you want to sing K-Pop, you should be prepared to type in some Hangul band names as some are listed using hangul, and others using English. For example, BEAST, TVXQ, SISTAR, SNSD are all listed in hangul. They do have an applause (on screen cheer lol) button though as well as a pitch adjuster. I am not too sure how you would find Japanese or Chinese songs using the keyboard though. As for the mics, we had one wired and two wireless. To be honest, they were very very very VERY quiet. Even turning up the mic volume we couldn't hear through the system. You would probably have to shout to be heard. In fact, it was the same using the mic vs not using the mic (we ended up just singing with out them most the time because it was pointless). On to the music, although with a vast song choice, you get the legit karaoke version. Not a ripped of mp3 with karaoke lyrics. However, The music video's actually proved to be problematic. Some videos would have the actual MV, but most the time there wasn't. You were either staring at some animated people "dancing" to the song (sometimes with the correct dance, others not so much) OR you'd be staring at the sunset, birds, the beach and waves crashing, OR YOU WOULD BE LOOKING AT THE MV FOR A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT GROUP ON REPEAT. If you were lucky, maybe you'd get the right group, but wrong MV. This we found to be the most frustrating. For example, I have seen Muzik 6 times in one night to completely different music. It doesn't matter if it's a boy group or a girl group track, there will be some kind of music video that you will see over and over again through out the night. Near the end they would switch MV's too. You'll be seeing a 2NE1 MV reach it's end and it will switch to 2PM's heartbeat until you finish the track. This was very very distracting. Have you ever tried to sing BEAST'S "Soom" with Rainbow's "A" playing in the back? Or how about SS501 with A Pink's "Hush hush" playing in the back? Service: Service was actually pretty good. When we walked in, we had to wait for some friends, but she led us into the room and asked if we wanted to wait or start the time. She also offered us water. She was very friendly and nice and told us the features of the room and made sure to point to the service button. Bonus: She was cute too Food and Drinks: I don't know about food but I remember being told they don't serve food before 6 or so. (I believe it was either 6 ot 7). Regardless, it is Karaoke so no doubt it'll be a bit pricier than usual. I'm not sure if this was allowed, but we brought in our own food and they didn't say anything.... Overall: Would definitely go back. Would recommend this place only to English/K-Pop singers. I don't think the song selection would be as great for any other language. This has taken me a while to write because I couldn't find the correct establishment. So here is my review. I have gone to Galaxy before this one last time that has completely change my mind about it. It is still very clean, the song books are not sticky, price is about the same as other karaoke places and they even had drink and food combos. My friends and I were very impressed by this place so we went for our friend's birthday party. We had a very mixed group of 10 of Koreans, Caucasians, and Chinese so we all spoke English when served to get everyone's opinion whenever we asked for service of drinks or food. I decided to get the birthday shot as well as other shots. I went out of my karaoke room and into the other half of the area (across the hall) to the bar and I got 6 tequila shots. I was told it was $75 and they only accept cash. I was a little taken back because I was going to put it on my credit card and I didn't have cash on me. I took it out of the ATM nearby to pay for it. There was no sign anywhere saying it was 'Cash Only' either. Later on, my Korean friends went to the washroom and came back saying that the servers in the front lobby area are talking about our group.... and not good things. Things about how are dresses are too short, the girls don't look pretty, we are crazy loud and other ridiculous things. I gave the benefit of the doubt and said they can be talking about any group because it is a karaoke place after all. I told them to forget it and continued to sing. As we were paying separately, we gathered at the front to pay by person and made sure we all covered our part. One gentlemen helped us with our payments as another two men stood in the back and kept glaring at us. I asked my Korean friends what they were saying. They told me the men were the ones talking about us from their trip to the washroom. They were saying that us young kids don't know how to dress and we don't even have the legs for the dress we wore. That we were sluts to be with men of different race. I was appalled that they were speaking like this and in front of us! Not even knowing that some can understand Korean! It is a really nice, clean karaoke place., but with absolutely horrible people serving and I vowed never to go there again. read more

If you just want to go for a few hours with a few friends, that's fine. But I would not recommend booking parties there. They will charge you the original per person per hour rate you originally booked even if people leave early and even if you order drinks and food (which is usually expected for parties) whereas anywhere else you go you can get the room free if you order drinks and food. The staff was arrogant and elitist and claimed there is no competition as none of the other karaoke bars could compare to Galaxy. However, it has less English song selections than Sole but for double the price (charged for both room and drinks), is just as clean as K-one but has less private rooms, and doesn't have any original music videos whereas Lips has all original music videos or Sole or Nanta have music videos for the more popular songs. Sound quality was not great either as we experienced feedback and buzzing. I will never book a karaoke party there again. read more

Galaxy is awesome! Good sized private rooms that are relatively sound proof. Decent selection of alcohol at decent prices. Good selection of songs and relatively easy to look through them, once you get a hang of the giant remote. Great service, although splitting up the bill can be laborious at the end of the night (not really Galaxy's fault). Overall definitely my favorite karaoke venue. read more

Reserved a room for Tuesday for 6PM (opening time). Our group and another were left outside waiting for over 10 minutes, because the owner came late. Would have been fine if that was the only issue, but we were also provided with a very small room (unfit for a 5 person group, like us). We had to request for a different room, so we could all sit comfortably. The room we were moved to was for 5 people and smaller groups (which was equally small, but had a better seating arrangement). At the end of our 2 hour reservation, we were given our bill, which charged $6/person. What didn't make sense was, why they would provide us with such small rooms, if we were paying the same rates as people who had 6 or more people. It wouldn't have made a difference if he let us into one of the bigger rooms, because we went on a Tuesday night and the place was pretty dead. Overall the systems were good. However, the owner was very rude every time we requested something and didn't even apologize for being late on opening the place (we had made reservations on Saturday night). His attitude really killed the mood for our group that night. FYI-The rates are $5 per person in a group of 4 persons or less and $6 per person for any groups bigger. If they try to rip you off, demand to see their menu! In Conclusion, save your money. There are more Korean karaokes in Calgary in the downtown area. I'd recommend Sole or Nanta read more

I recently celebrated a very special moment in my life at Galaxy. I proposed to my girlfriend after we sang "our song" together on the stage in the open area. It wasn't my original plan but due to weather I had to move the party indoors very last minute but Min was understanding and extremely helpful in making sure my proposal was successful. We had a large group of about 25 people but the service was tremendous and Min even went above and beyond by providing a champagne service free of charge to help us celebrate after she said yes! They didn't have to accommodate our large, overly-excited group but they provided us the space to party and have fun anyway. I had only met Min that day but he did everything he could to help the night go off smoothly. Even without the whole proposal in mind we all had tons of fun and would definitely come back again. Not counting the extra alcohol we bought, for two hours and 25 people, the total bill was $10/person. I would definitely go back for any gathering involving a large group. read more

I signed up for Yelp just so I can warn others about this establishment. I'll admit that the place looks pretty nice and clean. However, that is where the positive review ends. Their pricing is unfair and severely inflated (ie. assorted fruit $30, basket of fries $11, assorted nuts $14??). Their menu stated that the hourly rate for a room is $6/hour per person. We were there for 3 hours total. The first hour there were 6 people. 12 more people showed up for the second and third hours. Based on their advertised pricing, our bill should have been $252 for the room rental but they charged $324. They billed everyone for 3 hours even though the majority of the people were there for only 2 hours. When we tried to get this corrected, the young man working the front desk said "It is what it is"... We will be taking our business elsewhere next time. There are other karaoke bars in the city that provide better service and better value for your money. read more

We have always order drinks and food at sole or nanta and our bill is maybe 35$ a person(we get wasted). However here, it ended up being 80$ a person. Drinks so SOO WATERED DOWN. This was not my first time coming to Galaxy, and a lot of my friends and I have considered this place to be our go to karaoke bar. However, tonight made me question how this business is run. A few days ago, my co-workers and I decided to have a fun night out. So, I suggested going to karaoke. On their online website, I booked a room for 6 people for three hours, days in advance since I knew Saturday's are busy nights and I wanted to ensure a room for us. Unfortunately, the night of, two people could not make it as they had a change of plans. So when we arrived, I told them my name which I booked the reservation under, and said that u was sorry because there would only be 4 people instead of the original 6 people that I had booked us for. The lady said okay and showed us to a small room. As we began to sing I noticed that they only gave us 1 hour. I thought to myself, "you know what, we don't need the full 3 hours which I originally reserved the room for, so I'll just ask them to add 1 more hour, giving us a total of 2 instead". I called for room service and asked them to add 1 more hour. But the man said no, and that we needed a reservation for that. I was quite confused and told him that I did make the reservation. But he just said no and closed the door. Frustrated, I went into my phone to look for my confirmation email that they sent me the day I made the reservation. I then went to the front desk and showed them the email. The man, who I could tell was angry, would not even look at me, and was discussing something in Korean with the other woman who worked there. What the woman practically told me then was that because only 4 of the 6 people showed up, my reservation was invalid. She said that because of the room sizes, they have to make sure the correct amount of people will show up as told on the reservation so that they are not giving large rooms to parties that are expected to have many people, when in the end only a few show up. I was still confused and asked her if the rooms she just gave us was too big for us and she said no. So what I was supposed to understand was that because two people didn't show up, and our group is now "smaller" we are not allowed the three hours (or the two hours we now asked for) when I first made the reservation. Writing this, I still don't understand their reasoning. They did not even give us a big room. So, if I were to cancel the reservation then and there and reserved the room again for 4 people for 2 hours, would that have made it better? When we entered the karaoke bar, we could see that it was not yet busy, so I don't understand what the issue was. In the end,the woman gave us an extra hour as she could see how upset I was getting. She warned me that the next time I reserve a room, everyone has to show up. In the end, I'm happy my co-workers had fun. But what upsets me is that they had the audacity to say I never booked a reservation in the first place despite my name being on the list, and it was not until I showed them proof of my reservation that they finally gave in to give us one more hour. I guess my warning is, if you make a reservation, make sure everyone shows up so this doesn't happen to you. Also, I'm still not sure what they charge per hour. I've heard from my friends recently that it's $20 an hour, but for the two hours we stayed, we were charged $50. I'm curious to know if they upped their rates to $25 now. read more

The WORST service ever. I would give no stars if i could. The server (owner's son as i have been told) was very unfriendly with me and my friends the moment we stepped into the place. We waited for over 40 mins in order to be assigned a room but it was a saturday night and knowing how busy it gets, we ordered some shots at the counter. The server would make an annoyed face every time we asked for some water or pop (it was only about two or three times too) and when we finally got into a room we noticed that he brought one less cup than the number of our members. We asked for a jug of water and an extra cup and when he came back with them, we said that we were now ready to make orders on food and drinks, and he told us with the most annoyed tone if theres something else you need, tell me now, all at once. As if we should order all at once to give him less work or what? And it wasnt even like we were ordering five different things every three minutes! All we asked for was a cup and some food and drinks to order! If he doesnt want to work, he should just stay home because servicing customers is what hes getting paid for. The food was expensive and did not taste that great either. Not going back there again. Definitely will not recommend this place either. read more
