I did my research and I'm so glad I went with Lulu. From day-one, she was professional and really easy and fun to work with. My dress needed a lot of work and Lulu was meticulous in her alterations making it look like it was made just for me. All-in-all, Lulu fixed the bust, replaced and added boning, shortened and cupped the shoulders, took in the sides, raised the waist, cut the hem, added hooks to hide the zipper, inserted buttons to keep my shape-wear from shifting, and bustled the dress. I may not be a tailor but I know how to recognize when someone has talent and pride in their work. Words cannot fully express how happy and grateful I am that I found Lulu! She is absolutely amazing! I'm from Cali, getting married in Cali, but I live in WI. I am only home a couple of times a year, and Lulu made sure to fit me in! I fell in love with this dress, but the only problem was that I fell in love with the strapless version of it (which doesn't exist). The dress has capped sleeves and an illusion/lace back. Lulu altered my grandma's 60-year old dress so that I could wear it for my wedding. She completed the alterations in a timely fashion, helped me determine what should be done to maintain the integrity of the dress while making it comfortable and flattering on me, and had plenty of availability to meet with me for several fittings before the wedding. She works out of her home, and it's just her doing the work. She does have a cat, so if you're allergic be prepared. The only down-side to my experience was that I wish she had inserted a lining in the dress. The fabric was thin, so it was really hard to find a slip that didn't show through. She told me it should be easy to find a long slip, so I decided to save a little money and not have her attach one. In the end, I paid for it anyway through all the time I spent looking for a slip. Apparently these days that isn't so easy to get a long slip without any "pouf" to it! I finally ended up finding something that worked great, but it took a LOT of shopping around before we found it. Overall, I would trust your vintage gown alterations to Lulu. read more

I just got married October 2012. I bought a sample Lazaro wedding gown, the dress was in good condition but I wanted to add extra beading to the whole dress. I went to several places that either wanted to charge and arm and a leg or refused to do the work because they said it was too extensive. Brought my dress to Lulu and she not only did the exact beading that I wanted, but was very reasonably priced. I also got the dress fitted/altered and it looked beautiful. I was so pleased that I had my now husband, bring his suit to be tailored AND I had Lulu hand make all the bridesmaid dresses from scratch. She was very easy to communicate with and affordable. LuLu is an absolute dream! I came across her business while searching for someone to alter my wedding dress. I simply texted the number given on her Yelp page and she promptly responded to my inquiry. We were able to quickly get started. I started working with her the end of June for my October wedding (I feel like I needed a moderate amount done). She is not only super talented but she is an expert in dress making. They did not sink in with me until I realized my dress needed a large train reduction in order to give it the look I wanted. LuLu understands how dresses are made and what needs to be done to get them fitted to you. She is the sweetest and most gentle person ever. Coming from someone who always has a little bit of anxiety in new places, she quickly minimized all of that with her outgoing character. I would recommend her 10x over and plan to continue to work with her for other needs. I drove 1.5 hours to get to her and I would drive twice as far given her exceptional work. I just can't understand why Lulu's been given such great reviews. My concerns and wishes were not listened to (instead I was treated as a child) and I did not find her well-organized at all. I had to follow-up from messages that I left and never returned. My initial disappointment came when I showed her the EXACT color of fabric that I wanted my Maid of Honor's dress made from and she agreed to search for it in the Fashion District in LA, but came back with traffic cone orange - which we had to pay for. I ended up going up there myself and purchasing what she had agreed to find for me. I can't believe that the dress ended up costing close to $300 when I supplied the fabric. I gave her a VERY simple dress to make and fabric that was easy to work with (she made both comments herself), but in the end it still lacked the belt that was shown in the picture. I left the wedding dress I bought (her suggestion: it's easier to alter a dress than make one) with her for over a year with the request that she add pockets, but when I got it back the pockets were crooked and I had to have them fixed by another seamstress. I would've asked her to do it, but was afraid I wouldn't get it back on time. My PRIMARY complaint is about her EXTREMELY poor time management skills. Nearly every one of my appointments was rescheduled. I can understand when a family member gets sick in LA, and even when you want to spend a weekend away with family, but when I get a message that we have to reschedule because she "didn't have the extra time" to work on my order (that I placed over 6 months ago) I get pissed. It shouldn't have taken "extra time", it should've taken the time it required AND that she agreed to. I can only guess she gets to chatting away with clients and loses track of time OR she pushed my order back because other brides came to her at the last minute. Should I be punished for planning ahead? When I came along with my Maid of Honor who was trying on her dress and asked to put on my dress just to see if the shoes I bought would need to be returned I was nastily turned away and told there wasn't time. My dress is simple and it wouldn't have taken me any longer to put on my dress than it took her. The long and the short of it: Lulu has lots of excuses and commits to deadlines she doesn't deliver. read more

Lulu is simply incredible!! I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS/Mormon) and was in need of finding someone who could alter my wedding dress to have sleeves. I found my dress at David's Bridal 4 months before I'd known about her and thought I'd be able to find a nice bolero to cover my shoulders. However, after many phone calls and internet searches coming up empty, it was either settle for something I wasn't crazy about or find someone who could alter the dress. I was nervous I wouldn't find anyone in time and more so worried that I wouldn't be able to find someone who could build on my dress and actually make the sleeves. I then found Lulu here on Yelp after reading that a fellow member of the Church had done exactly what I needed done. With all her glowing reviews, I contacted her immediately and what an answered prayer! Such a sweet woman; very kind, knowledgeable in her profession, and very willing and able to bring my vision to life. Despite the limited time she was given (I contacted her within a month of my bridals) she was very quick in her services and getting back to me when I had questions. The dress came out so lovely. The sleeves and added coverage looked as if it was designed that way. Lulu made my dress fit perfectly & matched the lace on the dress exactly! You can't even tell where any extra panels were added to make the dress bigger. She changed my zipper back dress into a corset back dress and it was stunning. I also had her make my veil to match the lace detail in my dress. Her prices are super reasonable. She took a dress that I had gotten online that was pretty ill fitting and poorly constructed (I didn't return it because it was pretty and on sale and so of course I let it sit in the closet FOREVER without doing anything) and turned into a custom fit dress for me! Lulu sews out of her home and is very well organized. The quality of construction is excellent. The prices are reasonable- particularly when you see her customer service and sewing skills! When you go to Lulu be prepared to have at least 2 fittings (the first fitting and then a follow up). She wants to make sure your dress fits well! She takes 50% down of the estimated cost and 50% when the dress is done. She gives you a contract with fitting times so it's easy to remember when to go back, how much you owe and when your dress will be done. Lulu also creates custom dresses. You bring her a picture and she could probably make it! I will definitely be back and recommend her to friends. read more

So the minute I purchased my non returnable dress at David's Bridal I had a serious case of buyer's remorse! I felt I had been pressured into getting a dress I didn't love and to top it all off it was expensive! Not only was I left with a dress I hated but my wedding was only 3 weeks away. I found Lulu on Yelp and left her a message. Within a few hours she called me and assured me she would help me fix it. She booked me the next day even though she doesn't work Mondays. It was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Since day 1 Lulu made me feel at ease and like I had known her for years. She literally remodeled my dress within 2 sessions and had it ready within 1 & 1/2 weeks. Lulu is amazing! Such a sweet person and was more than willing to put up with my indecisiveness. I was originally going to have her design and make my wedding dress.. she was very patient and listened to all my crazy ideas. She completed a muslin example of what I was asking for, which i loved. However, I made a trip to LA to make one last effort to find a dress (since all the shops in SD had nothing like I wanted). I ended up finding a Sarah Seven dress which was absolutely perfect. I purchased it on the spot. Upon returning, Lulu's reaction was one of happiness for me and not pissed that I found a different dress. I had already paid a deposit for the dress she was going to make me, so she subtracted the cost of the muslin mock-up and since I still needed flower girl dresses, she applied the remaining deposit to the two flower girl dresses she was to make. The FG dresses came out PERFECT, exactly what I wanted. I had only given her a few pics of the dress I wanted and she made exactly that in two different sizes (one for a 6 yr old and one for a 2 yr old). She also did the alterations on my dress. The dress is a very delicate silk chiffon that is mostly hand sewn on the bodice... she took in the back at the zipper and hemmed the bottom. I could not even tell visually that she took in the back, except of course for the fit, and the hem was the perfect length and finished with a surge hem. Overall, her work is that of an artisan... professional with her creative touch. I highly recommend Lulu for any dress occasion... she will not disappoint! read more

Lulu was amazing! I went to her with my wedding dress.. i just had a baby and i got my dress before i got pregnant so unfortunately my dress was ALOT smaller on me than when i got it. I took my dress to lulu and she put a beautiful corset back in my dress and made it fir perfectly to me!!! You would never know at one point i could hardly put it on! I'm late on this review, but just had my first wedding anniversary which reminded me of Lulu. Lulu... what an amazing, sweet and very talented lady. She altered my wedding dress for my July 2015 wedding, and the work she did was just stunning. I had a dress that I loved (expensive for me) with lots of intricate beading, so I researched long and hard to find someone I could trust with it to make it fit perfectly. I drove from Palm Springs and it was totally worth it. She took in the dress so that it fit me like a glove, sew in cups that made my décolletage look on point, and added an intricate French bustle, which in my opinion looked even prettier than when the train was down. In addition she steamed it and my veil at no extra charge. I got to know Lulu throughout the fitting process (we had several) and she was just a privilege to spend time with. I couldn't recommend her more. Also I felt her prices were more than fair given quality of her work. Really a bargain. Thank you Lulu! read more

Lulu is AMAZING! I decided to restore and recreate my mother's wedding dress for my own big day and Lulu was meticulous, professional and very efficient. She had a great eye in designing a modern dress that fit me well (i.e. adding on a few extra inches to the bottom of the dress) while maintaining the original foundation of the dress. In just 4 fittings Lulu was able to remove the entire lace bodice, create a strapless sweetheart top with built in adjustable strap, shorten the train and use that material to add a two layer ruffle to the bottom. THEN she hand stitched individual pieces of the lace beadwork from the material from the bodice creating a boarder along the entire bottom of the dress extending through the train. The bustle is perfect! If that wasn't amazing enough, she created all of my bridesmaid's dresses based on the exact color I had chosen for my wedding (she was determined to find the perfect match, even though it took several trips to LA fashion district to find it!) Ultimately I ended up spending much less on a personalized restored couture dress than I would have on any commercial dress. I cannot say enough great things about Lulu. She IS the seamstress to choose! read more

Before meeting with Lulu, I had previously purchased my Bridesmaid dress elsewhere and it came in EXTREMELY LONG. The dress dragged so much it was difficult to walk. I came to Lulu prepared with the heels I was to wear at the wedding and she made the final length of the dress look absolutely perfect. Her work is so professional that you can't tell any alterations were made, it doesn't look tacky, and it doesn't look like the dress was messed with (which was one of my fears in getting my dress altered in the first place but I'm so glad I trusted Lulu). I got my dress hemmed, taken in a bit, bra cups put in, a bustle added, and the arm holes widened a little for comfort. It wasn't a crazy alteration but Lulu did a great job for a great price ($200! Yay!). She gave me different options and suggestions for what she thought would look best but never pressured me into making any decisions. I was worried about taking the dress in because it has a low, open back but Lulu did it beautifully! Communication was also flawless.
