Today, finally while driving past u saw that the open sign was on so I decided to make a quick stop and check it out. While I had a sort of strange and short experience I'll start with what I saw. Full of trinkets and a variety of items, it seems like a fantastic little spot to explore. The interior was not large, a small little shop likely food for a handful of people at a time, packed with things ranging from fun dishes, records, clothing, and random knickknacks. There was a little library outside along with larger pieces like statues and even some art pieces inside. Now I would love to go back and properly explore, get a better gauge of the pricing as well, but the reason I said "seems" earlier is that when I arrived, the lights were on, open sign was on, door was open. I walked in and there was some radio playing. But not a single person in sight, mind you it's a small space. I said "hello" a few times, stood there in plain view in case anybody walked out (last thing I wanted was to spook somebody on accident being behind a shelf or anything), and heard no response. I stood there a couple minutes, just looking around, but was a tad uncomfortable, not due to the place just the situation, and thus decided to leave and come back another time to more properly explore this space that seemed like a blend of an antique store and a child's playhouse. At least I now know their hours so I'll try again soon!

If that's not the connection, I give up. Still, the name makes it stand out from other like-styled shops. It's an open space shop, with wide aisles and lots of glass shelves and racks to keep the light flowing throughout. It makes it easy to see the item in a non-distracting setting. Things are mixed throughout so you'll find similar items all around the store. There's a mix of media here, art created by the two owners along with pottery, jewelry, prints, scarves, and the like made by others with whom they share a common view. The goods are contemporary for the most part, but with a nice variety. For a unique gift, or to claim ownership of an original work of art, you'll find this is a good place to start, or stop. You can probably find something less expensive at a similar-themed place, but what you get may be more cookie-cutter style.

She has excellent taste and I particularly love her selection of ceramics and jewelry. It's usually my first stop when I need to shop for a gift or am looking for something special for my house. Unlike most galleries exclusively for displaying finished art, this place has the look of an art school. The back room has the requisite paint splatters, a color wheel of sorts on the wall and displays of student art. The front room, currently in the midst of a reorganization showcases the artist's work. The artist-owner, Catherine, assured me the canvases on the walls, leaning against the walls, or on the floor, would be displayed more appropriately once she finished rearranging them. In a way, though, the haphazard arrangement really made it seem I was seeing part of the creative process. The owner and artist was very sweet and took time to explain her inspirations. It was fascinating. Her works, and even those by her students, are in the impressionist style, with the vivid colors reminiscent of that era. There were canvases of all sizes, but the most striking for me was a small scene in the front window that Ms Martin said she painted of the area out behind her gallery. There was something about that picture that made time disappear. Nothing in it suggested it was a modern time or a modern work. It was captivating.

I get very real pleasure from the works of art that grace my walls - she brings a loving touch to every piece of art she creates. Personally, talking to her - she is a delight in every way. Warm, genuine and civic minded she is a credit to her community of artists and to Apex. She gives of her time and talent to wonderful causes and wherever she has been or wherever her art hangs is made so much better for it. I simply adore her and am so glad that my realtor, 10 years ago, drove me down Salem Street and I looked into her studio window and just went ahhhh!!!!

It is locally owned and was founded in 1968, when Sid and Pat Oakley converted a former tobacco field into the site. It started small with one building and has since grown over time to many more. Two studios are used for glassblowing, and five studios are for pottery, including a kiln. The gallery is 4,000 Square feet, so there is a lot to see! When you come here, you will pick up on the creative vibe and community that develops as artists support each other. The location is pretty great too as you are away from the hustle and bustle and can just relax in nature whether you are strolling through the garden or just walking to the front door of the gallery. Sometimes when you visit, you can watch the artists work as they create their masterpieces of pottery or glass. The studios allow the public to watch at a safe distance. I like the variety of genres here, as you will find glass, wood, pottery, metal, jewelry, felt and more. Many events and festivals happen throughout the year. The National Tea Pot Show is currently going on through the summer, and it happens once every three years, so it is worth checking out. Pottery and Glass Festivals happen at other times of the year. The Cupful Exhibit is another favorite, featuring creatively designed homemade mugs. The Glass Egg Festival is unique in that the 55 blown-glass, unique eggs are auctioned each year for charity. The employees are always friendly when I've been here to browse or shop, and they help you find what you are looking for. They have a rewards program where, after you spend a certain amount, you get a discount and 20% off an item in your birthday month. I highly recommend making a trip to explore this gallery, as you never know what will catch your eye.
