Parking is right out front for $5, but if you don't mind walking for less than 5 minutes, you can street park for free. Pay attention to the street signs so you won't be towed!! I attended the opening reception for "Tradition: A Tattooers Art Show." There was music playing, I'm not sure if it was a dj, or a playlist. Beer and wine were sold on the first floor towards the back. I like the layout of the gallery; there were at least 20 pieces on display. The prices were reasonable: $150-1000. That's pretty standard from what I've seen at local galleries. I really liked the ambiance; I was able to talk to other patrons and some of the artists. The show had pieces from Miya Bailey, Corey Davis, and Cake, but I also learned about new (to me) artists to follow. Overall, Facet is great a gallery to visit in Atlanta, I'll definitely be back.

They specialize in smaller collections of cutting edge and experimental work, usually from two or three artists at a time. I attended their most recent show this last Saturday and enjoyed a great mix of friendly people from the neighborhood, some wine and PBR, and some great pieces of mixed-media pieces. Opening nights for shows are not to be missed and often feature wine tasting, and live music. It felt like the entire neighborhood was there. The owners/cruators, Jason Drakeford and Erin Dutton, are themselves local artist and often have work on display.

While sitting in the cafe area there were multiple people who came in, with and without pups, each who was greeted as you might an old friend. The parking was great and the tour of the studio was really cool to see and learn about the process. Then we got a ton of hands on time with the pottery, about an hour and a half, and then we got to pick from a wide selection of glazes which the artists will apply and then in about 6 weeks we will be able to pick up the pottery. I was blown away by the price of the class. I received it as a gift, but when I learned that it was only $65 per person for a 2 hour class and 2 pieces of pottery I was shocked. I'd highly recommend to anyone and everyone!

We turned right off the bumpy road that led us there and noticed their sizable parking lot. We found a spot quickly, snapped a couple of pictures and entered. There was really no direction or guidance when we got inside so we were hovering around for a few minutes. Then I noticed a check in desk at the far end. There was a couple ahead of us so we waited for a few seconds and then approached the counter. We advised that we were scheduled for the 5 PM class. The staff checked us in, pointed us in the right direction, and also informed us that we could roam around and check out their gallery before our class started, since we were a little early. I would say initially there were a bunch of people milling around. I was not sure if they were staff members or other patrons, but we did not initially get a very welcoming feel. Not a lot of eye contact or warm smiles. We roamed around checking the gallery until our class started. We approached the training area as it got close to our scheduled start time. Our instructor. Zoe greeted us warmly and told us she would get things started soon. Before class, she conducted an official tour that led us around the whole property. She clearly explained how the whole process would flow. Then she did a full demo before we even started. She led us through the process, and we were able to create three different creations, but she let us know that we were only able to keep two. Zoe was a star; very informative, patient and knowledgeable about the whole process. She expertly stepped in and helped us whenever we had questions. We washed up, picked out final colors for our creations and checked out. She advised that it would take 6 to 8 weeks for the whole creation to be baked and ready for pick up. For some reason, I thought we would be able to take our creations with us that day. Overall, we really enjoyed our first time at Mudfire.

The place was packed with what I called the Haves and the Have Nots, but the diversity of the crowd did little to spoil the evening. Maybe it was the two models holding champagne trays as you entered the door. That did it for me if no one else. I saw old friends greet and hug, and newbies mingle with others over what I think is being called the galleries most provocative exhibition yet. There was other art to view, and one of these days, when I either hit the lottery or get a hold to the trust fund, I'm sure has been hidden from me, I will surely return and buy several pieces. Primarily, I think I'd rather hire Harriett out and have her do a DeeDee version of the "Pass the Salt" photograph that was hanging here. The gallery was quiet, with only a few patrons, and the exhibition was stunning and thoughtfully curated. However, the visit felt noticeably impersonal. Throughout our less than 30 minute tour, we were not acknowledged by staff at all. One team member remained fully engaged in conversation with another patron without once extending a greeting, as we toured the main level. Other staff appeared occupied and only responded when we asked a question about viewing the top level. While the exhibit was impressive, the lack of basic courtesy detracted from an otherwise enjoyable visit.
