He recommended a high-quality alternative that was on sale and matched the color perfectly. He even took the time to bring our gallons of paint up front, no one does that any more! Typically Ace is more expensive but great service. Not here. Sales Manager appeared not to be bothered and would not walk with me to the isle and promised to send someone. Of course did not happen. Also, some of the isles are blocked off and you need the ever absent personnel to walk with you. Nice treating your customers like thieves and then not helping them. No expertise, extremely dirty store, cashiers very busy chatting, badly stocked isle. Why would you pay more minus the service? Take the extra 10 minutes and go to Home Depot. So... first time coming here because we were on a mission to get a Weed Eater. Found it online for $94.99. When we first walked in, it was funny that they had a little bit of everything, I liked that part, but frankly you would have hard time finding anything because it's discombobulated. Things are piled up and so disorganized... Anyways back to the reason we came here. They had the Weed Eater we wanted in stock for $119.99. Hubby showed him their online price. I have never seen a worse example of what not to do in guest service. It's funny, in the day of Amazon, the life blood of a local small business is guest service. You greet customers when they walk in the door, not about at them that they need to leave your backpack at the front door. Than, if you don't want a customer with a backpack in your store, than when he asks you to get carpet cleaner he can pay for it and leave; than help him instead of physically trying to intimidate him. Compared to nearby Aces this one is by far the most expensive. They have a decent selection after the upgrade but with Homedepot 15 mins away this is def just a last-minute kind of place unless you have money to burn. For the most part, they have a good staff unless you get there after 6. Normally stores begin shutting down after the stores close unless it's slow but at this ace it can be 6:10 and they act as you just walked in 2 min before closing and are too busy pulling pallets and cleaning up to help with basic things like cutting wire, I ended up cutting it myself after waiting 10 mins while the door greeter sits up front doing jack. I don't get why they close at 630 anyways why not round it to 7? Every Friday I stop at the atm after work usually around 645 and tons of people pull up to shop but it's closed. Why lose all that business to homedepot, tractor supply, or Walmart. read more

This is a fun store! Almost more fun then perusing Orchard Supply! They had a great sale over Fourth of July. I ordered a couple items and the closest store that had them was the Galt Ace. They have a whole lot of items and a little bit of everything. One issue...this is not a company owned store. It is a franchise. So if you wish to return an item that you purchased at the ace online site there could be an issue. But with their helpful and friendly employees we got it solved. Been a long time resident Of galt,20+ years. Always went to Ace versus the big box stores just simply for the customer service. Didn't mind paying more than the big box stores because of the customer service. But I've been in there four times during this lengthy remodel. And I have never met more rude kids running the place in my entire life. Store Shows they close at seven got there at 6:28 and they tell me were closed. I said but the app says seven? Some Voice from in the back says well there's a sign on the door as you come in. In the old days even if you were there close to closing they would attempt to help you with good customer service and knowing the customers important. The answer I got was come back tomorrow when we're open. And four of them were just standing around in a casual conversation at the front of the store while the open sign still flashed in the front window. The time before was just trying to buy some drillbits. This was in the middle of a Saturday and was told they're in a tub somewhere and the gentleman walked away. I stood there in disbelief what happened to customer service. After 20+ years of shopping there I will definitely make a point no matter what to go elsewhere. Galt Ace is an ace like any other. If you're me, the employees ignore you because you're a minority, and spend their time meandering around the store in some trivial pursuit of items that probably do not exist. They do have a fine selection of items you'd normally find at a hardware store. But here's the thing that separates the Galt Ace from all others. I was looking for something down an isle, when I overheard an employee talking to a customer. I didn't catch the entire conversation, but the employee, an older Caucasian man, said "...just like those little China men." The normal reaction when using racial slurs is to look around to see if any minorities are present, which this man did, only to see me staring back at them. The man then walked away. Stopped by store this morning for a garden spigot repair. I had tried to remove the washer screw with a phillips and messed it up. Steven, and employee graciously offered to try to remove the screw and help me replace the washer/seal that was too old to stop the spigot from leaking. In about fifteen minutes he replaced the screw and seal, for a total cost of 1.06. Of course I will buy other items in the store as he made me feel important and the service really was worth far more than the purchase this time. read more

Amber the "manager" wouldn't honor a raincheck on an item in the ad I purchased a week ago that says "Rainchecks are honored" unless I had the original receipt even though they pulled up the item in their computer with my number. I asked if they could just reprint but because I was trying to get the sale price they would not! Lucky for me I had the receipt at home. And once I brought receipt back Amber said "Oh well I thought she paid more, I would have just done it then." Not customer friendly in that sense. This place is great! You are greeted immediately upon entering and they are quick to help you find whatever it is you need. It is seriously a full service hardware store. I will never go shop there again will gorequest for full refund. Rick (manager) at the entrance greeted me. Told me to go aisle 19 someone will be there. Same person embarrassed me while I checked out at the register.. lashed out and said it so loud so many others inside the store heard.... "we dont give out free stuffs" Behind me 2 customers (waiting) and by Rick at least 2 employees and cashier and many others. I think he is races (am Asian, he is White) for .78 cents total charges for less than $2 out the door. Is that right things for him to judge me? WFH... I gived the helper a note. The helper checked out few pieces and found me scrape piece. He said they sale by foot. Helper said "you are good" (unsure what he meant) I will cut you piece. I am okay you sale me a foot and return the rest..no prob. I walked to register. Cashier asked me I said 2 of these.. as the cut pipe the young said called it is good. So I go in because the husband sends me for some plumbing parts for the guest bathroom sink. I take a picture of the part and the size he needs. I'm immediately greeted and informed Dan will be assisting me in the plumbing aisle. I showed Dan the picture and told him the size my husband was requesting. It took less than 5 minutes and Dan ensured me that my husband could use this kit for what he was seeking. Then I asked if he could assist me in seeking a light bulb for one of those scented wax lamps. Without hesitation he found it as well. I thanked him for his help and joked with Dan when he said he'd see me later! I told him I hope not too soon because if I had that meant the husband was sending me back because I got the wrong part. He laughed along and I appreciated not only his knowledgeable and patient assistance but also for his sense of humor!!! This is what makes this place outstanding!!!! About 10 minutes ago I walked into Galt Ace Hardware to purchase a chain saw and a bag of bird seed, there were 3 young employees standing up front having a great time laughing it up, but, when I walked through the store there was no one to help. I walked from front to back could not find what I was looking for so I LEFT. What has happened, I used to talk to a couple of old timers that were always very helpful. By and large the worst service around. Just go there and you'll see. They will send someone to help you, but the help you get is the absolute minimum, and in my experience very inept. I've had several times when they look at the item I need to replace, and without even looking say "we don't have that", then walk away, then I go and find what they said they don't have. They just don't care, and many of the employees very poor service skills, and frankly are completely unengaged with their work. You're way better off making the drive to Lodi to Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

Walked in, two guys also walked in each going their own way. They asked the guys if they needed help and never asked me. Walked around finally found what I needed. Had to go up front, again a couple of guys walking around and never said hi or can I help you. The guy at the front called for help. The guy took down the plant holder (nice guy), and asked him for a tray to place under the plant holder. They had None, except for a small plastic one. The guy helped me with some plant soil and told him I needed just some plain dirt, nothing for a specific plant. Finally I found a bag. Went up front to purchase and asked the young gal if they had any plant holder trays. She said no don't have any up here!! Excuse me, maybe you might have some in the back.
